One of the cute seating areas
    Amanda B.

I wanted to love this place so much, but I didn't. The decor is fantastic and really family friendly with a cute little record listening corner, a wee den for kids to play in and lots of space. Most unfortunately, the staff were really, really disorganised and there appeared to be no coherent system for fulfilling orders. I tried to order around 3 times only to be advised on each occasion that there was none left of whatever I asked for. Finally we ordered soup, two cakes and a cup is tea. We had every order in the place brought over except ours and eventually got our soup about 50 minutes after walking through the door! The soup itself was ok, a kind of milky barley broth, but a bit overpriced - it came with some nice break. The staff seemed less like very nice people and more like very frightened rabbits- they tried not to make eye contact the whole time we were waiting on our order although they did apologise when they eventually brought it over. My dining companion was absolutely mortified the whole experience was so excruciatingly cringey. The cakes were lovely - a Copenhagen and a nice raspberry lime polenta cake- but again a bit overpriced. With a more orderly system, clearer understanding within their own staff of what items are sold out and more efficient service this place definitely has potential. I wouldn't rule out coming back for a cuppa but probably won't attempt the food again. It was all a bit Fika Towers for me, more like an embarrassing dinner piece of performance art than a nice quiet lunch!

    Nord kitchen lunch!

So For Fika Sake is a pretty popular new joint, especially during the weekend! Gian and I decided to go over to try the lunch menu by Nord Kitchen, and it was pretty goooood. Upon arrival, we realized the the space was pretty busy! It's a huge place so the fact that it was almost full means it should be nice yeah? Hehe. The mezzanine is open now too! MORE space! We sat by the window, which I recommend you not do when you wanna have lunch because the seats and tables are more appropriate for teas/coffee, but we made it work anyway. From the Nord Kitchen menu, we ordered salmon with pea gems, chilled cauliflower soup, kale brocolli with seed butter and pork with wheat barley! All were really good and refreshing in flavour! Everything was simple and tasteful but our fave was the soup! Reminded us of a cullen sink! Very filling and savoury MMMMM. All of this came with a side of bread too! Altogether, it was all about 22quid! Not bad for a kind of tapas style lunch and I felt like it was a healthy meal! I still haven't tried the coffee as I'm basically being a skeptic and still haven't mastered up the courage to test their "Scandanavian" barista skills out lol. I do think that the staff are still trying to get the hang of managing the cafe because they have their moments of confusion! Fair enough, you're new! Take your time settling in. I'll head back sooner or later to try you coffee! The cakes too. But most definitely the lunches are yum! Thumbs up!

Popped in for lunch on my birthday, as my friend and I are big fans of all things Scandinavian (and cake). The decor was a bit hit and miss - not overtly Scandinavian and a swinging a bit too much in the direction of Salvation Army shop trolley dash instead. Our table was a 70s number complete with watermark stains all over it, which I don't recall ever seeing as a design feature in Stockholm! The cakes though are incredz - the lime and raspberry polenta cake was to die for. The blueberry sponge was so light. I asked the lady at the counter who said the cakes are made by an ex-prisoner group (or possibly in a prison, I forget which) and bought in - so you are helping social enterprise by eating there. The food whilst nice was very limited, especially if you don't eat seafood like me. I had the pate on toast which was delightful. All in all, I enjoyed For Fika Sake but it just doesn't tick the Scandinavian box for me - it's just like an ordinary cafe rather than making you feel like you're in Scandinavia.

I finally visited here this morning after hearing good things for a cup of coffee. Safe to say I wasn't dissapointed and I think I've found a nice local coffee shop to visit! There was a varied selection of baking on display on the counter. I went for a cinnamon bun which was very tasty, if a little bit dry. The coffee was fantastic, probably the best in the area. I think they use dear green for their coffee supplier which is a plus. The decor is quite nice with some comfy couches and standard chairs. It's quite spacious so it felt a little bit empty, but that's probably more to do with it being quite quiet early morning!

Stopped for a coffee and cake as had heard so much good press about this cafe . It is easy enough to find directly off Dumbarton road opposite where they hold the Mansfield Park farmers market . It appears very quiet early am and that particular morning had opened late so coffee machine was just coming on line . As I had to wait 20 mins for this to happen that's why it is only 4 stars not 5 . However ,my flat white was very good when it arrived accompanied with a glass of water . The coffee supplier is Dear green coffee . I sampled their gingerbread which was delicious . Dark , tasty with a little bit of fresh ginger . Their baked goods looked very inviting and will definitely need too return to try them . Staff are super friendly and its a great addition to the Westend coffee scene .

I went to go in to TriBeCa however the queue was out the door so I rode on a little further and popped down this street to find parking Found a space and ..... Oh what's this place behind it .... A cafe? Huh .... Where did this come from Popped in and was interested with the decor and the mismatched seating, ordered a salad and a flat white Wasn't overly impressed with the food, I wasn't sure what to expect from the salad I ordered however walnuts wasn't one of them, neither was the bread delivered in a basket of what I thought at first was trill mix for my long dead budgie The observer reading vegan would love it! The flat white however was like drinking liquid velvet and this is why I'll return, coffee..... Seat.... Relax .... Bliss It's a nice spot off the main busy street.

For Fika Sake is one of those coffee shops that's perfect if you need a space to work away from the office. Firstly, it's pretty huge but it isn't loud. There's a huge space upstairs with more seating and power sockets for laptops etc. That's an especially peaceful place to sit and either focus on work or relax. Especially in the big comfy sofas. Secondly, the coffee is good and the WiFi is reliable. When I'm working I do need both to be right, and both are definitely right here. I could sit here sipping lattes all day and be super productive which would help me to avoid feeling guilty about the third thing that makes this place great - the cake. Go have a look at the photos for For Fika Sake, you'll find that everyone is excited about the lime and raspberry polenta cake. They're right to be, because it's brilliant. I mean, I was tempted by the other options too, but I know that when I go back I'm going to get that cake again. For Fika Sake would get five stars if they had savoury food available too. Then I could sit there and have a real lunch while working. Unfortunately, although I'm told they sometimes have this available, it's not always something you can get. Apparently they don't mind if you go get food from elsewhere (although I'd ask politely first) but I don't want to pack up all my stuff to go get a sandwich from tesco - I want a panini or something right where I'm already settled. Still, it's not a huge problem, and it gives me another excuse to eat more of that cake.

    Flat white please!

Perfect alternative office! Great coffee, lovely long tables with accessible plugs and great chilled background music! Love this place! :)

Brewed tea and a cinnamon bun, great for a rainy day!

They have a baby penguin throw and a treehouse, what more do you need! Went on a rainy Sunday and the place was buzzing! Lovelly tea and bun to warm me up. They don't do the usual treats and brownies you expect which is good, love trying different cultures! Only issue I have is the space at the back, it is a bit open and cold, could do with some more warm tones. Excited to try their new sharing boards. Great to have somewhere like this in Partick!

    Cappucinos & mud cakes

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I've been told about it ~2 weeks ago and today I managed to convince my favorite Swede to come with me. As soon as we walked in and looked around, she went "yes, this is very nordic", so there you go I guess. Its design is very minimalistic and quite office-like, so it seems like a really good place to get some work done to me. It also has a couple very cute features like the penguin nook or a vinyl corner. We weren't quite sure whether to go for coffee & cake or lunch here, since we got there around noon, but lunch menu was nowhere to be seen and we weren't particularly hungry, so it was decided. A friendly guy welcomed us and immediately asked whether we were from Sweden, I guess being both blonde we're sending out those nordic vibes & rocking the nordic look :) . He then showed us all the cakes & pastries they had, including the Swedish name of each in the description. We both got a cappuccino and a piece of "mud cake". The coffee was great and so was the cake, though the piece was rather small. Therefore, I had no choice but to go get another piece of cake (haha), this time the blueberry lemon cake. That one was also delicious, I was especially fan of the frosting. When leaving, we were bid farewell with a friendly "tack" - meaning thank you in swedish- which added a nice touch to the whole experience. To wrap up, for all of you who wonder (just like me) what the name means: Fika is Swedish for "(to have a) coffee/snack break" - my friend found it rather punny. We both enjoyed our visit there and likely will be back.

Isn't this the world loveliest cozy corner?

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes.
