5/19/22 -- I'm very skeptical about trying new salons, but I'm so glad I took a chance, and the one thing that pushed me to do so was Mindy taking time to go back and forth with me on Yelp, and not hours later, she responded within 15 minutes of me sending a message. Having Mindy respond was very nice and comforting. I know it might seem silly, but who wants to go spend money to end up not happy and in pain at times if the nail tech doesn'know what they are doing, I don't.. So I did go and had a great appointment. The salon was clean, had relaxing music playing, and nice incense going that wasn't overwhelming either. I had my dipping set removed during my pedicure and had a manicure with a shellac set done. After ~2 years of being in SA, I think I finally found my new lash girl. I have always had my lashes done in Dallas and so it was difficult for me to let that go and find someone actually in town. I've looked at countless before & after pictures and read reviews about different lash technicians. So I decided to take a risk and reach out to Mindy (who was reasonably priced compared to others in the SA area). Unlike a few others who never responded back, Mindy answered all my questions and was able to squeeze me in last minute. At the appt, Mindy was friendly, knowledgeable (she's been doing lashes for over 10 years), patient, and helpful. I was able to address my concerns, tell her the look I wanted, and the process did not take anymore than an hour. The glue she used did not sting or irritate my eyes. It was only red for a brief period due to the fumes. She even took time to discuss proper lash care. I am pregnant so she constantly made sure I was comfortable and did what she needed to accommodate the way I was laying. Because she is the only lash person at the salon and gets booked up quickly I went ahead and scheduled my refill appointments for the next few months. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and got right in. The pedicurist massaged my feet for almost ten mins, which I loved. They were very nice and offered me water as I walked in. Prices are normal, quality is good. The only thing I didn't love was their nail polish selection. They didn't have three of the normal colors I usually do so I had to pick a slightly yellowish base (which I didn't like). But overall, the experience was very good! I'm OBSESSED with my lash extensions from Encino Nails. They have become a regular part of my beauty routine. I get at least 3-4 compliments a week on my lashes from friends, coworkers, complete strangers, etc. It takes about an hour or so for Mindy to get the initial set of lashes on. I like mine to be full and long but still look natural. She achieves this perfectly and uses high quality mink lashes. I follow her aftercare instructions and I don't even see a single lash come loose for at least the first 4 days. When I do, it's a single lash that had grown out and fallen off. No clumps of lashes falling out, and my own lashes don't get pulled out. I pretty much sleep on my side at night, but I like to rest my head on my hand which conveniently prevents the lashes from getting smushed in the pillows. I wash them very gently before bed and upon waking up and scrub in between them with the microfiber brush that Mindy gives you. Then I brush them gently with a spooly (also provided) to separate them and keep them neat. I have yet to feel the need to use eyeliner with these lashes, and mascara is not needed (or recommended, it may loosen the bond.) I use eyeshadows on the weekend and have no problem keeping my lashes and lids clean and healthy. With my maintenance (along with working out 4-5 times a week), I need a refill about every 3 weeks, simply because by then my own lashes have grown out and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the extensions have thinned out. I can tell when it's time because I can see my own lashes in between the darker, longer extensions. Sometimes a few extensions can twist or turn sideways as they grow out. I comb them into place so as not to yank out my natural lash if it's not ready to fall out yet. Mindy takes about 30 min to complete a refill. She removes any very loose lashes and just fills in between wherever your new natural lashes have come in. It's painless and there is no pinching or stinging feeling like my friends have sometimes described in other places. The price for extensions here beat everywhere else (except for the cheap cluster lash places which are TERRIBLE) and there is no sacrifice in quality. I can balance out what I spend on lash refills by eating 2-3 less fast food meals a month. Beautifying in more ways than one! read more

I am in search of an experienced nail tech who won't cut my cuticles and make me bleed, so I tried to book a pedicure with Mindy since she comes highly recommended on Yelp. She told me on the phone she no longer does manicures or pedicures, but that she would put me with Kim, an experienced tech. When I arrived for my appointment, the tech who performed my pedicure was wearing a smock with "Mindy" embroidered on it. Wait, what? This is Mindy? I thought her name was Kim? Anyway, after Mindy/Kim cut a cuticle and made me bleed, I asked her name -- it was Ann. Ann? At this point I'm confused and not sure of my own name anymore. Needless to say, between the blood and tech confusion, I will not be back. I will say, though, that Ann was very friendly, which was a plus. And she was able to multitask by taking two personal phone calls while performing my service. Side notes: 1. Masks: Their signage indicates "No Mask/No Service," yet there was a nail/eyelash customer there the entire hour I was there without a mask. So if masks being enforced is important to you, don't come here. 2. Service options: I was not provided a menu of services to select a pedicure type, so it appears there is just the $30 basic pedicure (which included hot towels and massage). Encino Nails was a great experience for me & super convenient to where I live. Mindy was able to get me in when another customer cancelled and even contacted me while she was on vacation! My eyelashes look great thus far & she was very good and worked quickly to get them done in less time than I've had done at other places with the same great results. The eyelashes she uses are mink and feel great and less heavy than other locations and lash brands. $130 for your initial set and she gives you a brush to maintain. She also informs you of all the cleaning and maintenance requirements if you're not used to having them done. Call in advance to see Mindy as she books up quickly and about a month out at a time! Her and her mom take pride in their business and work ethic and ensure customer service is a priority. They've been there for about 20+ years and value their customers.
