I recently bought my family a secondary vehicle. It's an 01 Infiniti qx4, I've wanted one since high school so I finally bought one. That being said, I knew with it being that old and having 155k miles I needed to have it looked at.
My family has used the same mechanic for almost 30 years! He recently retired, and is willing to do work for our family but in his retirement, he works at a much slower pace and we trust him, although never feeling like we got a "great deal" on parts.
I manage a branch of a local bank and was chatting with clients about my new vehicle and needing a new trustworthy mechanic. That is where I heard about Encinas and Mike. I immediately got online and checked reviews as I always do. Being an online review freak, I realize most people only go online to post negative reviews. I decided to review on yelp, as it was the first to pop up on Google and I figured it likely had the most views. ALL of the reviews were positive. This speaks volumes about a company to me.
I live in very far east Broken Arrow, and work in far south BA. His shop is on Brookside, so it's quite a drive for me but with the great reviews online and my clients good word, I took my Infiniti in. I did initially get an oil change and $1000 worth of recommended fixes from Hibdon tires. When I took it to Mike at Encinas, I advised that me and my family (literally three generations on my mom's side) were in need of a new mechanic. I told him I bought the Infiniti that previous weekend, got an oil change and wanted a second opinion on the items Hibdon said needed replaced. Mike didn't even want the list from Hibdon. He took about an hour to look it over, and when I came back his list of recommendations totaled about $850. This list only included one thing that was on Hibdons list.
After shelling out basically my entire tax return on buying the vehicle, I asked him "from human to human, what needs replaced immediately?". Mike looked at me, then at the list, then back at me and replied "sir, to be honest, nothing I've found needs replaced immediately. I'd feel comfortable letting you drive this away".
I ended up telling him to replace the front brake pads and rotors, get an alignment, replace both front lower ball joints, repack the front wheel bearings, turn the rear brakes, etc. It came to $820 or so after parts and install. This was less than Hibdons repair prices, and included more repairs. The prices were VERY reasonable, and I trusted him right off the bat. Working so far away, I had to have my mother pickup my keys, as I wasn't going to make it back before he closed. Not only did my mother trust and like him as well, but he complimented me, my career and my intelligence for such a young age (26). That really was a nice personal touch that sealed the deal for me. People leave a company because of people, or stay because of people. That is customer service number one.
In summary, I think I've found our new family mechanic, and have already recommended him to several customers. Trust the reviews, they are absolutely correct! read more
