This place was super lively, fun and had a great staff on hand to make the event even more enjoyable. The huge outdoor seating area some of it screened, some of it open, all of it with a roof, made a great place to standby and watch the lightning and rain come down for a while. We ordered all kinds of things on the menu and frankly all of it was really good and lend it to the Fun. Sometimes the best places are those you find by happenstance, this was one of them.

Location - Located in the Atchafalaya Basin, you get views of teh swamp, people launching boats, people coming back after fishing or swamp tours. There is often a breeze and if it is too cold, they can close some plastic windows that will warm it up. Ambiance - This is what a bar should be. Sightly divey with unique decorations. Photos of teh regulars on the wall. Lots of seating and a large bar with friendly bartenders. Food - Bar food at its finest. I have only had fried pickles and hot dogs but both were great. Drinks - beer prices are super reasonable and they have something for everyone. If you find yourself anywhere near Henderson, you owe it to yourself to stop at Turtles.

We ordered waters very quickly, but when it came to food ordering it took quite a while to the point we had to ask for someone to get our waitress. Overall the food was solid, but nothing to write home about.(I'm from breaux bridge by the way, but live in Houston) I ordered the grits and grillade, my fiancee ordered the boudin burrito, and my dad ordered the grits bowl with eggs and bacon. Dad said the grits bowl was solid. He goes there often by the way. Fiancee said that the burrito was just ok. I did taste the burrito and it left some to be desired. When I think about boudin, there's a kick to it. Really, when I think about home in south Louisiana there's a particular burst of flavor that comes to mind. The grits and grillade was good. Again, could have more pop to the flavor of it. Great mixture though of the grits and roast. Overall, a cozy place to get a bite to eat. The food is solid and the place deserves 4 stars. Could kick up the flavor a notch, but I wouldnt say I walked away saying this wasnt worth it. Ps. The biscuit was very soft. Very good biscuit.

This being a roadtrip this time around I took advantage of the full kitchen versus using my camp stove. With both fructose and lactose malabsorption it's very comforting to cook for myself. And having access to a full kitchen allowed me to make a rice and steak dinner and then in the morning make a cup of rice for the road, plus hard boil chicken and duck eggs I gathered the day prior. The duck eggs were fantastic! Just like in 2023, the Cajun jam night on Wednesday didn't disappoint. Such great music and wonderfully friendly people. One experience I was hoping to relive from 2023 was the ghost encounter in the balcony room; ghost sat on my feet! Unfortunately this go around in 2026, no ghost experience so just be aware there is a spirit, albeit a friendly spirit, inhabiting the Blue Moon.
