Well, I finally got a chance to come back to Augusta and attend an event hosted here (85th Birthday Celebration). The facility (multiple banquet halls) was nice inside and out. The banquet rooms can be set up anyway you arrange. The banquet staff was very polite and attentive. However, the food was a little disappointing. The Tempura Fried Fish Filets were wayyy over cooked (dark brown and brittle), the string beans and sliced carrot were tooo salty, the roasted turkey and garlic mashed potatoes were decent, and peach cobbler was just okay. Having organized many business seminars on the west coast (and one of sisters owned an event planning company in Los Angeles) I would suggest that you request a tasting, if possible. Or maybe this place needs to just get a new chef. Not sure what was going on with the ladies room. It appeared clean but wreaked of urine(?). I am a super clean person and having owned a business with public bathrooms ... odors mean something was not sanitized correctly(with bleach solution). Back to the positive side of things... The food presentation was nice as was the dining area. Table was set up nicely. However, there was only one water glass per setting (no glass for the pitchers of tea and lemonade?). Neither were there dessert plates, salad forks or spoons in the setups? Never seen this before(?) I drank up my water to empty the glass to try one of the other drinks on the table. Same with my fork. I kept the same fork to eat my salad and dinner. There was a dessert fork above the place setting but you had to plate the dessert (peach cobbler) onto your dinner plate as you went through the buffet line. Never seen this before(?) So, the bottom line as in any event you plan you'll have to work very closely with the catering manager. I would ask specifics about your place settings and food. Nice facility though.

Recently I visited for a Women In Business event hosted by the Augusta Chamber of Commerce. They used two of the spaces, which were decorated beautifully. They used one room for a pre-reception and bar area. The other space was where the main event took place. The venue is spacious. I believe the catering is in-house. We enjoyed the meal. If they are in-house they were prepared with vegetarian options, which is always a plus. There is plenty of parking in front and behind the venue. It can be hard exiting the venue parking lot, but it won't take too much time. This is a great place for weddings, upscale events.

The communication we had prior to the day of the event, to assisting in setting up items (balloons & banners) was vital to the decoration of the party. Michelle has a definite go-getter mentally that won't stop until you are happy. She definitely made every second of the event memorable in every way. So many compliments were made about the location (Summer House), that I was able to refer two of my coworkers to have their kids graduation party at this establishment. Beth was absolutely informative and an excellent host. This was a great experience, one of my bucket list! This was an excellent and very comfortable hotel option while we were visiting the Augusta, GA area last weekend! This boathouse lodging is situated conveniently on the Augusta marina, so there was no parking issues. The reservation process was very easy, and we had no issues communicating with the owner all through our visit. This houseboat was an older vessel, that was restored and could easily be enough space for 4 adults. On our visit we just had 2 adults, so the full size bed was more than comfortable. They also have two two size buckbeds that could be used for kids or other adults. This houseboat was very cozy and comfortable. Betty had just gotten back into town and said she would be happy to do so. When we arrived the bride was told that the gazebo was not cleaned up for a ceremony and that it needed to be done inside. When she looked at the room for the ceremony it was compacted in with multiple things of religion and statues wall to wall. It was not the setting the bride wanted. The bride said she really wanted it to be done outside. Betty told her again that the gazebo hadn't been cleaned up but the bride could not do the ceremony in the room that was set for it. When I arrived I went over to the gazebo... it appeared to have multi-colored fake flowers covering the entire entrance with red garland intertwined at the top. It was tacky to begin with. Needing to be cleaned up was an understatement. The flowers looked so disgusting and hanging out of place and should have been replaced a long long time ago, and it appeared to have never been cleaned up as it would have been much better than the state it was in. I noticed the side of the building a a wonderful appearance with a large bush with white flowers all over it. The lighting was perfect and the ceremony would have been perfect in that spot. I pulled Betty to the side and asked her very politely "Could we do the ceremony over on that side as there was plenty of space and the setting would be perfect. In front of it has clean gravel." She responded with "No No No No, That's Not Happening. We are doing the ceremony in the gazebo." I said "but the gazebo is really not up to par plus it is very dark inside it and leaves everywhere and people are already complaining that it is too dark for pictures." Betty said "No we are doing it in the gazebo, end of story. I have a light in there." and then she walked to the gazebo. I went on inside with the bride and told her that there was a perfect spot on the other side of the wall but that Betty said it would only take place in the gazebo. We went ahead started getting the kids ready for walking out for the ceremony. About three minutes later Betty comes back in and got in my face. While the bride, brides mother, and the children were in the room...Betty was standing literally a foot away from me and started saying "We are Not going to do the ceremony anywhere other than in that gazebo. It is not going to happen." I said "okay! I got that." Then Betty continued "it just isn't. I haven't had anywhere outside treated other than the gazebo area and there are ants everywhere else and bugs and I can't be held accountable for that area. So the answer is No." I said again "I got it." and then I walked out because she was literally chewing me out it felt like ad she was very harsh about it. I went outside to cool off and looked around... the area I was talking about had a clear ground with gravel and the area with the gazebo was nasty and when we went over there and did the ceremony everyone, and I mean everyone was getting eaten alive by the amount of bugs and mosquitoes. It was ridiculous the amount of welts we had on our legs. I was willing to let all of the mess of the place go but with an attitude like she had and how she came at me about not using the other spot I just feel like someone should say something. Have pride in what you do. Having an attitude like that for no reason at all was just rude all together. And the fact that she knew how bad it was and would not allow us to make the best of the location really upsets me. I had her as my reverend when I got married 6 years ago. I would never have recommended her if I knew she was like that. Her attitude changed the mood in everyone's head while we were just wanting to see the bride happy on her day. Have respect for what you do and get a better attitude.
