Zero Integrity--Values Winning Over Ethics I am beyond disgusted by the behavior I witnessed from the head coach of this academy at the Dream Series Jiu Jitsu competition on March 14, 2026. A martial arts instructor is supposed to be a role model for their students, teaching discipline, respect, and--above all--integrity. This coach has none of those qualities. During the tournament, he blatantly and shamelessly cheated by pressuring the referee to switch the 2nd and 3rd place winners to favor his own interests. It wasn't a mistake or a misunderstanding; it was a calculated move to manipulate the podium results. It is pathetic to see a grown man so desperate for a plastic medal or "team points" that he is willing to rob another child of their hard-earned placement. What kind of message does this send to the students at this gym? He is teaching them that it's okay to lie and cheat as long as you get the result you want. If you want your child to learn "winning at all costs" without a shred of morals, this is the place for you. But if you actually value character, sportsmanship, and the true spirit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, stay far away from this coach and this academy. He is a disgrace to the BJJ community. read more

This gym is amazing! Nice facility, great equipment and wonderful trainer! I've been coming to Empire for almost 3 years and I can confidently say it's the best gym experience I've ever had! As a woman, sometimes you feel intimidated to do certain workouts or don't know how to use a certain machine when you go to the gym but here you don't have to worry about that. There's no competition or comparison to anyone but yourself. They have plenty of equipment for every type of workout - whether you're into strength training or cardio. This place is great for beginners to professional athletes. On Saturdays, he even teaches a kids class that my kids have attended. They also have Jiu Jitsu classes here as well. Chris, the trainer, is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to offer support and advice when needed. I tell him what my goals are and he works with me to achieve those goals. He knows how to push me in the right way. When I don't think I'm strong enough to lift something, Chris is there pushing me because he knows I can. I've gotten so much stronger because of him and I love the feeling! I also love it because I don't have to think about what my workout is going to be that day. Chris is there to tell me exactly what to do, how to do it and make sure that I'm doing it correctly, which is most important. I highly recommend this place to anyone who has fitness goals. What truly sets this gym apart, is its community atmosphere. The instructor/ trainer Chris, is experienced, and genuinely invested in helping you meet your goals. I've always been impressed by Chris' system of "flow". I've never had to wait for a machine, even during peak hours. Another great thing about this gym (for parents) is that there is a Jiu-Jitsu class for kids at 5:30pm. This review is for fellow parents looking to get their kids into martial arts. I have taken my son to 4 different BJJ schools over the course of a year. All of them have been good but the kids coaching team at Empire is outstanding! The coaches: -Minimize any fooling around. -Give hands on detailed instructions for new techniques. -Supervised wrestling/jiu jitsu (was very important for me to have my son be able to feel what it can be really like to have another kid go against him, all while in a well controlled environment or else how will they know what works or how to control their emotions.) -Have great social awareness (help kids get over frustration and negative emotions). My son started here about 6 months ago and there were some tears from the frustration of losing or being held down during wrestling. He's come a long way and it's exciting to see his focus and effort. It's thanks to a great learning environment from a solid coaching team. Recently I texted the gym owner Omar that I was impressed by one of his staff. During class when it was my son's turn to wrestle he went against a kid that was really good. They had a hard fought round with each other and afterwards there was some light tension but the coach had them sit together and reminded them to have fun and gave them praise for their combined effort. Same day, after the end of the class dodgeball game a kid was upset and had some tears after not winning but the coach came over after all the kids were done and playfully wrestled him down while he acknowledged the kid's feeling and got a smile out of him. I have more examples but I'll end it here. Couldn't be happier with Empire Training Grounds. They have a good mix of both boys and girls. I plan to have my daughter join soon too. All parents want resilient kids, Empire is a great place to give them that opportunity to build that into their character. read more

Love my Empire fam! If you're interested in training muay thai or jiu jitsu, Empire is a wonderful place to do so. I started here 2.5 years ago and fell in love with muay thai immediately--Coach Carlos and my classmates have made the whole experience so rewarding. I can't go a week without being here; I'm honestly relieved the holidays are over now so I can return to my Empire routine! The jiu jitsu side of things is also great, since everyone is really encouraging and committed to being better together on and off the mat. It's really like an extended family where everyone knows everyone and the sport becomes more fun than anything else. Omar is such a solid coach who manages so many students so well. The music is always going and the mat is always packed. There's also a section dedicated to weights, with awesome personal trainer Chris available to help people of all levels get stronger. I've only just recently started venturing over to the weights, which intimidate me, but Chris is the best at helping you get comfortable with weight training. Whatever your goals look like, Empire gives you the opportunity to learn and grow into the best version of yourself. You'll make friends, set a schedule, and see the hard work pay off. I've never been very confident in gym settings, but Empire has really made me feel at home from day one. I've met some of my closest friends there. I'm thankful I had a friend bring me into the fold, but even if you're completely new to Empire, I highly recommend giving it a try. You'll get to exercise and socialize simultaneously. Chris is the best! He adjusts workouts to what I want to focus on, what my body can handle, and what my long term goals are. I show up during semi private training times and he's always so attentive and watches my form like a hawk! If I have any questions, he'll spend the time to talk them through with me. Gym is very clean. Chris is always scrubbing and making sure people put away their equipment. They also have someone come in to clean the restrooms, mop the floors, and keep everything tidy. 100/10 would recommend this gym! If you're interested in jiu jitsu or Muay Thai they have that too! Before coming here, I did a lot of cardio and didn't really lift weights so I wasn't familiar with anything when I started. Chris has been training me for a little over a year now, he made me feel comfortable every step of the way and has helped me with my goals and still continue to do so. Chris is the man!! I've known Chris over a year now where he used to be my trainer at another facility (that's since closed). Making the transition over to Empire was a no-brainer when it was mentioned he would be one of the lead trainers at this facility. His attention to form, personalized attention (even in a group setting), and challenging workouts (which he does scale accordingly based on your fitness level) is why I will continue to train with him for years to come. I'm faster and stronger now in my late 30's (almost 40) than I've ever been (even in my late teen's and 20's) thanks to Chris.
