$80 for a cut and shave? Didn't realize things were so expensive. Have others had to pay similar prices at an old fashioned barber shop?

Overall pretty unsatisfied with my experience. The quality of the cut itself is okay if not a bit below average. Namely all my issues are a result of the barber seemingly trying to speed run the haircut. He took about ~12 mins to give me a mid skin fade. In the process, my back of neck got several scratches and marked up, took way too much off the top when I requested to just trim the edges, and messed up my beard. Furthermore, maybe if I were a walk-in then him trying to rush through it could make some sort of sense, I came with an appointment. However, I won't be coming again. read more

Horrible. You guys completely ruined my boyfriends hair. Didn't even take time to ask him what he wanted, just quickly chopped off his hair and completely changed the style. Never coming here again. Next time please take the time to consult with the client and ask them what they want. Don't come here if you have even remotely curly or wavy here they don't accommodate for that. read more

My old barber Alberto located in Union City NJ passed away last month (he was 82 yrs old), and I had been going to him for 30 years. Now what am I going to do, I thought? Nobody cuts hair like Alberto :( So I did a Google search and I found Empire State Barbershop. I went to their website and I loved it. They took the time to make it look great. That alone was impressive. I went there for the first time yesterday (7/20/2017) and the young man at the register as well as the owner Brian were both very welcoming. So I sat in the chair and told Brian my story about my previous barber Alberto and he assured me that he will do a great job. Well folks let me say this now, I miss Alberto, but Brian gave me the best damn haircut I ever had in my life. Flawless is the only word to describe it. Great barbershop with a lot of family tradition. Brian, proprietor and master barber, is a friendly, caring and superior barber. I have been a long time client and have yet to be disappointed. The wait can be as long as an hour, but there is always a wide variety of current magazines, a big screen television, a large & beautiful fresh water fish tank, and some very comfortable leather couches. The owner, Brian, is a great guy but more importantly gives a great haircut. I wish there were two other barbers in their as good as him b/c they have three chairs and can get busy at times. Of the three chairs, I'd say only 1.5 are being used b/c of the limited hours of the other barber (forgot his name). I recommend it for kids too read more
