I cannot say enough about how great it was working with Empire Solar Solutions! I found them through NYSERA's website after obtaining quotes from 2 other local companies (Orange County, NY). Empire Solar's quote was the least expensive and I just got a better vibe from their staff (the other companies had pushy salespeople). They went over everything and answered the ridiculous amount of questions I had. Once we ok'd the system and financing, they immediately proceeded to engineering/design and permitting with our Town. The installation went perfectly as well and took great care to clean up after work was done. I have to give a shout out to Shannon Murphy at the company. She continually checked in with me as the process moved along... So impressive, truly an asset to the company, and a lovely person to chat with. I got double the solar for my house they did a fast job getting it up and running. Problem is it's not bringing double the solar like I was told it would do. It doesn't even produce enough solar so that I wouldn't have a central Hudson bill which I have every month along with a solar payment. Solar is not worth it like they will try to get you to believe. Our experience with Empire Solar in New York was extremely disappointing and ended up costing us over $40,000. When we signed our contract, we were told (including in writing) that the loan could be assumed by a buyer if we sold the home -- a major selling point for us. When we did sell, our buyer followed all the proper steps, but the lender had paused all assumptions, and we were forced to pay off the full loan balance to close. This risk was never disclosed to us. Empire Solar ignored multiple attempts to contact them -- including written letters. On top of that, our energy savings were much lower than promised, customer service was nearly nonexistent, and permits were never closed out, creating delays during our closing. We regret trusting this company and would advise others to be very cautious -- get everything in writing, double-check loan terms with the lender, and don't rely on promises alone. read more

A disaster of a company. I heard great things about them in my research so I was excited. When we did our install with them, they left a complete mess. I had to clean up the crews wet clothes, bags of food, beverages. They left massive holes in my driveway when we trenched for the electricals and they didn't clean them up. I called them numerous times and took three weeks before someone called me back. They then came and repaired about half of the work. In addition, they ruined the front of my house by putting the electrical box on the house when I specifically asked them to put it on a different wall. Empire Solar provided excellent customer service at the point of sale (Jake), and after installation (Shannon). I would have given them 5 stars for these representatives and people, but installation was needlessly stressful for me: the project manager didn't communicate clearly in order for me to understand the process, and he was never on the site (as I thought he would be) to oversee the work. The electricians employed by Empire Solar were very courteous to me in person, but spoke very coarsely and inappropriately to each other when I was not present (but could easily overhear them). Thankfully, the team they contracted to install the panels on my roof was kind, patient, and empathetic. The lead installer made sure I understood exactly what would happen (that they would drill into my roof- this is the one thing Jake told me they wouldn't do, so they need to get on the same page with that), and showed me photos of what he would do. Additionally, they indulged my tidy nature and donned shoe covers every time they entered my house. The experience post installation has been really great though, and that is all thanks to Shannon. I am not sure what changed with this company over the past year, but the level of customer service has completely fallen apart. When they were trying to win my business and install the panels, I was getting calls every other day. Now, when I need support and when I need someone to actually stand behind the product, it is total silence. I have been trying to get my solar system reassessed, and the experience has been a nightmare. I was promised 110% of my energy usage would be covered. Instead, I am short by over 3,000 kWh. That is not a small discrepancy, it is a failure to deliver what was sold. To make matters worse, I am still receiving massive bills from Con Edison. My July bill was $580, on top of my $200 monthly solar loan. That is nearly $800 out of pocket and no one at the company seems to care. No returned calls. No follow ups. No accountability. One would expect some attempt to make things right. Instead, I get the runaround, if I even get a response at all. They also got everything done quickly with the town and electric company to set it all up. It took about two months from first consultation to actually getting the panels turned on after all the inspections. In November 2023, we hired Empire Solar to redo our roof and install solar panels. Unfortunately, our experience has been far from satisfactory, and I feel compelled to share our story to help others make informed decisions. The sales representative, Taylor, and his trainee visited us in October 2023. They presented us with a proposal that included both solar panel installation and roof replacement for a total cost of approximately $50,000. This amount was supposed to include a federal tax credit that covered an additional loan of $22,082. We were told that the roof cost of $12,000 was part of the $50,000 financing package, making the solar panels cost about $38,000. However, after reviewing the paperwork, we discovered that the total amount financed was actually $71,940, split into two loans: one for $49,858 at an interest rate of 3.99% and another for $22,082 at a finance rate of 13.24%, due in 18 months. These terms were never clearly communicated to us, and we felt deceived into signing agreements that we believed would total $50,000. Additionally, Taylor assured us that we would receive $22,000 from the IRS, which we later found out from our accountant was not feasible given our tax situation. Furthermore, Empire Solar did not replace all the seals for the rooftop vent pipes, causing leaks into our home. Given the urgency of this matter and the significant financial burden it places on us, we requested the following actions from Empire Solar: An itemized invoice detailing the costs associated with the solar panel installation and roof replacement. A revision or cancellation of the second loan for $22,082, as it was based on misleading information. A clear explanation of all financing terms and any potential penalties for canceling the second loan. To date, our concerns have not been adequately addressed. We trusted Empire Solar to provide transparent and fair services, but our experience has been one of frustration and disappointment. The agent messaged me to ask if we could do the meeting earlier in the day so that they didn't have a large gap between appointments. I obliged. The agent then ran late. I didn't hear from the agent until 15 minutes after our meeting and this was to request that we do the meeting 15 minutes from the message and wanted it to be a Zoom meeting because they didn't feel comfortable driving all the way to me. What the absolute eff?! I was very interested about Solar energy and once again obliged. When I told the agent I was disappointed in the Initial set up of our meeting. I clearly stated that it was a bad first impression to ask for an earlier meeting because they didn't want to stay late, only to be late to it and when they finally had the courtesy to reach out it was to tell me that they needed to move us back and that he didn't feel like driving out to me. It's bad guest service. It was a waste of my time. The agent, mister solar powertrip, basically said - I don't feel like talking to you and I don't like your attitude. We've wanted solar for a while and after a few of our friends used empire and had no issues, we decided to go with them! Their rep was super patient with our questions, and also answered followup one we had with texts. Once we signed up we had a setup date for within a month. Installation was quick and they didnt make a mess of our property. Afterwards we had a good month or 2 of heavy rains and winds and we experienced no leaks or damage. Only thing that took a while was waiting for central hudson to come and inspect the installation and approve it. If I could rate with negative stars I would! Here are the highlights of my nightmare experience with them: 1. they damaged my roof in many places and only fixed one. Been two years chasing them to fix the rest to no avail. 2. The dont live up to removing trees that were part of the contract. I had to chase them for months to get it completed. 3.They take shortcuts and even when called on them they get mothy and cobb knobb your roof back together with putty after wrecking perfectly good drip rails and shingles instead of just rebending a conduit thye screwed up by making it too short and bending it correct. 4. Made several referals and never got any credit for them as promissed. 5.Thier team is like a swarm of human wrecking balls. No tact or grace in how they work and they work like pigs not caring about collateral damage to those below or the roof structure. My advice is pull a forest gump move when you see these guys comming -RUN FOREST RUN!! I was fortunate to have Taylor of Empire Solar land at my doorstep. We had received several estimates for Solar panels but so glad that I chose Empire Solar solutions. We are nearing our third year with our panels and no regrets at all. Taylor signed us up, Shannon did all the paperwork following up with me every step of the way. We spoke the day we went operational and we did a happy dance at how smooth the process was. Our payment for our panels is $190 a month (we purchased them and our net zero meter is $25 a month (the only thing I pay Central Hudson for electricity). They are so great I recently had a friend who not only got solar panels but got a new roof as well. They are amazing and I will keep shouting it from the rooftops. We have been very impressed with our project from start to finish. In addition to the solar panel project we needed a new roof. The roofing team was great. They took off our old roof and installed the new one. They worked hard and diligently and cleaned up after themselves including our neighbor's yard where the wind blew some garbage. The solar panels were installed the next day by a great team who also cleaned up everything before they left. It did take a few weeks for all the backend stuff including inspections to be completed and then we were creating our own solar energy. We did have some questions and they have all been answered to our satisfaction. Do NOT hire Empire Solar. First of all the panel array is less than desirable. Two (2) of my panels are directly affected by the shadow cast by my chimney. Not the end of the world, but the company monitoring my electricity production told me it isn't ideal. Now you might say "well maybe that's the only place they could have put the panels." And not being an installation expert, maybe you're right. Or maybe they could have placed the panels in the wide open spot (see attached panel array photo) that sits in direct sun all day. Honestly though, this is the least of my concerns. Higher up on the list is the fact that the job was completed July 2022. Fast forward to February 1, 2023. The building inspector shows up, as scheduled, to inspect a shed I just built. He says "when are we finally going to sign off on your solar panel installation?" I stare at him blankly thinking all this has been done. I immediately call EMPIRE and they have no idea what happened. I'm told the process could take 30 days or so. Of course Mid July to early February is a LOT longer than 30 days, but OK. Now for the coup de grace. DO NOT fall for their sales pitch. Salesman comes to your house. Tells you all about these awesome "rebates" currently being offered. The "rebate" discussion is very clear as I did NOT want to be on the hook for the rather expensive quote I was given. He went as far as to subtract the total of the "rebate" from the final project cost making the deal seem much more appealing and even took it a step further stating "the money is yours to do what you want. You could apply it towards the solar panels or just do whatever you want." I again was VERY clear and stated as long as this (over $14,000 by the way) "rebate" is guaranteed I'll do it. Now here is the tricky part so beware (do NOT say you weren't warned). The contract states "tax credit" but the very next line mentions "tax credits/rebates" so you say to yourself "ahh ok there's the word rebate I was looking for." It is NOT a rebate. You do NOT get this money back when you file your taxes in a nice fat check to do as you wish with. Had I simply googled "tax credit" then immediately questioned this, or, like I have done to numerous other solar panel salesman over the years, simply politely declined and closed the door, I wouldn't be here today telling you my story. And don't think calling the office for clarification will help. I called and spoke with Kelly at the main office on February 8, 2023 after the very disappointing appointment with my accountant. Kelly told me, and I quote "it is a rebate and I suggest you look for a new accountant." Of course when I asked her to please put that in writing she declined saying "I just answer the phones here." But so we are all clear. You will NOT be getting a nice big fat rebate check when you file your taxes. You won't. Trust me. I called the Public Service Commission who immediately told me to contact the Attorney General's office which I did and am submitting a complaint. The AG's office stated it is definitely a fraudulent practice" but of course the wording of the contract may or may not leave me on the hook for some rather expensive solar panels. read more

Like many others, I ended up with leaks. The 2000 kickback check I was supposed to get upon completion never came and no one responds. The installers left garbage (water bottles and papers) and empty caulk tubes all in my driveway and on my lawn. That was nice of them after I bought them lunch during the install. I had a 200amp panel upgrade in my contract, it didn't happen and I had to hound them to get them to honor it. Once it was installed it was another 6 weeks before it was actually activated. If you're getting solar look into NYSERDA loans. This company tried to get me a solar loan with a 31% dealer fee tacked on and a high interest rate but called it the lowest monthly payment... NYSERDA is 3.5% no dealer fee. Solar is good, this company didn't impress me and I'd advise people to research and have multiple solar reps come, let them know you're talking to multiple companies and make them EARN your business. read more

Just record all conversations with them. Product seems to work OK although it's been running only for a couple of months. Problem I have is with their honesty. They make promises and later on they say "I don't recall having those discussions" and basically tell me that I'm lying. We signed a contract in May 2021 and the sales guy was really good, the same sales guy screwed us later on. We were supposed to get system installed in July, it didn't happen and they blamed city's slow approval process (partially true). Late September the sales buy calls saying they finally got the permit and can start the following week (later I called the city's Permit Office and was told that the permit was given a month earlier in August). All supplies (for a new roof, solar panels came later) came a day before they started the work. We noticed that the drip edges were white and they should be brown as the rest of the roof. I texted the sales guy and he replied that "drip edges are standard white". I told him no and that even his roofing guys are telling me it's a wrong color. "You are right, it's a wrong color" said the sales guy. Then it went really odd. I was on the phone with the sales guy and pressuring him when we would get the right colored drip edges. He said that their supplier doesn't have them and don't manufacture brown drip edges anymore. I asked if they can get them somewhere else and he said no, not available anywhere. That didn't sound right and I ended the call to google it and after 5 seconds I found brown drip edges are available everywhere. I called the sales guy again he said they can reuse aluminum drip edges that are there already with the old roof. Those will last forever. Then he said they will reimburse $1000 for materials not used. I said OK, sounds fair. Called my wife who was home and she told the roofers they can continue their work. Then 2 months later their communications director calls me to see if I need any help with the user interface or the app they have. That was all good. Then I asked her about contract finances and the $1000 reimbursement for materials not used. She said there's nothing on the file about any of that and she needs to talk to the sales guy and their manager. She calls me a few days later and tells me "the sales guy does remember having some discussion on that topic, but nothing about reimbursement". She also said there's a $250 reimbursement for materials not used. Then after some email exchange comms director tells me that her manager (guy called Nat) will call me and take care of this. This was Dec 1 2021. I sent a couple of emails asking when they would call me. No call as of today (end of Jan 2022). What they told me was that I'm the liar. I'm a sales guy (among other things as a small business owner) and if I make empty promises they will come and bite me. I should have read BBB reviews before we signed as they are mostly about Empire Solar's dishonesty. This is not the end of the world, but something that really pisses me off. Be careful with this company, I had a ground system installed, they left the area a complete mess, the cement truck got stuck, they didn't fill in the ruts. they poured the concrete around the poles with a mushroom top, In the following 3 years, half the poles lifted as much as 8 inches. I needed service, and they said because I was in the fringe area of their service, I actually had to wait almost 3 months. The owners only solution was to write a check for me to repair my self. They wouldn't send their own guys to repair everything. Numerous attempts to get this work done to any satisfaction never happened, NO WONDER THEY ARE NOT BBB RATED, AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL. Even before the job was hooked up, I was pressured to sign work completion paperwork so they can get paid. This was done by the salesman, and the owner Adam. Adan even guarantied in text , that if I signed paperwork he will repair everything to my approval. This never happened. They sold me a job that they are unable to complete (they literally do not have the staff to complete the install, and I am now waiting for someone from their supplier to have time to come to my house and show them how to do it), they tried to start installation before they secured any permits, they had to store solar panels in my garage for MONTHS, and during all of this they wanted me to sign off on loan documents so that they could get paid for no work. I signed the contract with them in March, and I still do not have functioning solar panels despite them promising me they would get it done quickly. The salesman Will tells you whatever he thinks will work to get his commission, Nate who does the scheduling is at best incompetent, and the owner Adam is the worst of the bunch. This has literally been the worst experience of my life.Empire installed solar on my roof Oct 2018. The project took over 4 months to install. The installation was never done properly and took almost an additional 4 months to get NV energy to install maters because the system couldn't pass inspection. During this entire time I am paying loan pal for the system and NV energy for power. Finally I am assured the system is functionable. This was a lie, so now again I am paying NV energy and loan pal because the system is not producing. Every three months Empire is back out to my house to repair and upgrade an inop system. They increased inverters, added panels several times because they had no idea what the problem was. Now here it is April 2020, last upgrade done in Feb. 2020. Yes the system works now almost two years later and they won't reimburse me for the period the system was inoperable because they claim they had to invest "x" amount into the system to make in functionable. Total disregard to the fact I had electric bills matching my pervious bills before adding solar. I do not in anyway recommend using this company for any further projects.
