My HVAC unit is fifteen years old and I thought it would be prudent to get it checked out to ensure I had a working AC this summer. I began with the search of qualified companies and sought out their reviews with Yelp, Angies List, BBB, web complaint departments, etc.
The first company I had out, sent two shifty looking guys, who barely spoke English. They told me I needed freon, condenser coil cleaning, two electrical capacitors, etc. for a nice $700 service charge, but recommended I instead completely replace the unit for $6700. Then I called the biggest company in town, who bragged - they buy out the little companies everyday and told me my unit was too old and needed to be replaced - but their cost was $11,500.
Finally I found Empire Mechanical, LLC through a Living Social promotion. It was difficult to find information on the company - either good or bad, but the BBB said they checked out, so I signed up for the promotion: $49 for a Spring tune-up. They sent out Larry, who arrived on time, was conscientious, courteous and answered all my questions. He took the unit apart, cleaned the condenser coils, went through testing and cleaning both the heating and cooling systems. Told me the unit was good for another five years, had slight wear here and there and what to watch out for, the freon level was good. Cleaned it better than anyone ever has and did not charge me one dime more than the $49 Living Social voucher. I went from one shyster after another - wanting to charge thousands of dollars, to one guy doing the best job I had seen and charging not one dime over the coupon cost. This is the kind of honesty and service I search for.
Highly recommend Empire Mechanical, LLC for your AC/Heater maintenance and repair. read more
