All used/pre-owned certified cars have to have a $3,000 down payment!! When we agreed to continue the process with the extra $3,000, after he came back with a higher number than he told us. I made a call twice as two different people and they lied both times. They follow the BAIT AND SWITCH mechanism. What's worse? The manager tried to up sell me a lower trim car for the same price of a higher telling me he was willing to do that because they didn't have my car in stock, too bad we had all our research done already. I went in to attempt to trade in my car. The salesman was friendly, but when it came down to business, not so great. I went in knowing that my credit is bad, but was fully prepared to have to make a higher monthly payment. After submitting my credit application, the salesman advised me that due to my credit, and the fact that I have a LOT of negative equity, I would need a down payment or a cosigner. Not the end of the world, but when I asked what my car was appraised at, he would not tell me. I asked him point-blank 3 times and he wouldn't answer me. THIS REVIEW IS STRICTLY FOR SERVICE ONLY I am really being generous giving two stars for this service department, but I will tell the story the way I've been telling this story for the last two weeks and you can make your own judgement based on it. None of it is fabricated (god I wish it were) and I will also point out some positives along the way. I had about three weeks ago gone to this service department because my car wasn't starting. They diagnosed the problem as a dead battery, and it needed new brakes and rotors in the car. I really didn't think I needed new rotors (brakes I couldn't argue much with because I just had the front brakes replaced) but I went ahead and did it anyways, and I almost threw up when I got the quote, but I realized that this was a dealership and it was outrageous amounts of money. So I got the work done, and they did it right, and within a reasonable amount of time. Now for the story... I drive a lot for my job. So one particular day I was working on cape cod. To be exact, I was working in Provincetown at the moment when my check engine light went on. Most people reading this will know that Provincetown is nowhere near anything, but it is especially not near where I live. This is what went through my head when I saw the check engine light: "i'm not praying to any one particular god, I'm praying to you all. Get me off this godforsaken peninsula and I will be good, I promise!" Well the car was actually running fine. And it got me home. But I got home late, and I still had some hours the next day to work in Newport, so I figured that I would drive to Newport, get that done, and then go to the dealership. That's exactly what I did. But this is the part that I haven't told you yet: Hyundai's got a 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty and I...was at 59, 500 miles. So I go to the dealership for the engine light. They tell me "we can't fit you in". Well, it was a Saturday, so I get it. I said "well I'm working Monday, but I can come in on Tuesday.". He looks at his computer and says..."we can't fit you in this Tuesday. Our next available appointment is the following Tuesday." (and thiiiis is where the needle scratches against the record in the movie of my life) "But my car will be out of Warranty by then." "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do" he says (very nicely may I add) So you decide if they are lying or not. 9 days of not having an appointment to plug a car into a computer? I got a letter for a safety recall, brought the car in. I made an appointment at 11:15. Needless to say the car wasn't ready until after 5pm. When I was told two hours originally. They find everything they can think of to charge you up the a** so it's ridiculous! Beware. Be firm, actually don't even go here. STAY AWAY!!! COMPLETE LIARS!!! I decided to give this place a shot despite the negative reviews, as they were one of the few dealerships in the area offering what I was looking for - a manual transmission certified pre-owned Accent. After confirming availability and price (including that there would be no hidden fees or anything) via email, I requested pictures as they indicated that the car had just come onto the lot, so they hadn't put any online yet. They took a few pictures of the exterior and sent them to me, and everything seemed fine. The issues came when I showed up on the lot. After calling a few hours after the email to make sure it was still there for me to look at, I made the drive and was referred to a salesman by the internet representative. First the salesman asks what I wanted to pay, and after being told that I had already confirmed the price he tells me "we'll see if we can get there". I should have left right then, but decided to play ball a little. I already made the trip Out there, so I might as well look. I told him I didn't want to discuss price any further, as I hadn't even seen the car yet. He goes to get the car, and a couple minutes later another salesman calls me outside. Based on the pictures I was given, I should have been looking at a dark blue sedan - but they brought out a light blue hatchback. I look inside, and it's an automatic. I let them know, and one person goes to track down the right car by the stock number, while the other one leads me around the lot where we find the exact car that the internet rep sent me pictures of - another automatic. Not only did they not have the car I was there to see, they did not have a single pre-owned manual transmission anywhere on the lot. Instead, four different salesmen tried to convince me that I should just buy an automatic. I left after being told they'd call me the next day when they look on their other lot. Four days later and they still haven't called. Bottom line, they flat out lied to me in order to get me onto the lot, thinking that I would buy whatever they put in front of me. Then they'll work you to death and give you a fictitious monthly payment So that you will agree to buy the car. Please be aware that Salesmen are unable to give you a real payment because they are not a lender. Knowing this they will put you in the car for 2 to 3 days and make you fall in love with it, only to call you back in to do a bank interview. GOT STUCK MAKING TWO CAR NOTES Two years ago I purchased a car from Empire Hyundai and was told that I can refinance 2 years later which I came in two years later. What they fail to mention to me that while refinancing I'm going to need a down payment, which I wasn't to happy to hear, so then they said that they can put me into another car which I didn't mind, so I traded my car to get into another, so I ask how long will it take to payoff my previous loan they said about 15 days so I waited 15 days and I checked with the bank and it still wasn't paid off so 25 days later I called the bank again to see if it was paid off the bank said no and they said it was my responsibility to make a payment anything after 30 days it will have a negative effect on my credit which I ended up making a payment and getting ready to make a payment on my new car loan. So a month past I call Empire Hyundai to see what's taking so long to make the payoff payment and they told me that they are getting ready to send a check out the next business day so I said ok. So I waited 7 day later and still the payoff was not made and its now six and a half weeks since I brought that new car and I have 9 more days before my next payment is due on the car that was traded.....I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE AGAIN. read more

The rating for this place is so poor I won't even rate at 1. I went with my son to check out a year old SUV for him as his first car. We had made an appointment and drove about 45 minutes to get there. The salesman had some serious anger issues. I have never seen such a rude, unprofessional and even threatening salesman. He started with selling us the car at a price even higher than the MSRP of a new car. I was surprised and pointed out the price is way higher than the price they are displaying on different websites. OK. So they have a pre-owned car listed on their website (as well as on cars.com) as being for sale for $10,999. It's a Hyundai Sonata. I go in. From the get-go, the sales guy strikes me as gross. First, he "forgets" to hand me back my license after photocopying it before the test drive. I notice, and take it myself. He says, "Ha. Sorry about that, bro. It's no good to me anyway." The response seems oddly defensive. Then, he leads me to the wrong car. It's a newer car. I pull out my phone and look up the correct car and stock number, etc. He finally leads me to the right car. He tells me all the wonderful things about the Sonata at great length. Then, he talks about how he's the only honest car dealer, how he knows what people think about used car salesmen, how when he meets people at parties and tells them he's a used car salesmen they act recoil in disgust; he talks (I'm not kidding) about how he is single-handledly trying to change the image of car dealers everywhere, you know, just through leading by example. Whatever. I drive the stupid car. I genuinely like it; it's really not half-bad. All this time I'm still thinking that the cost of the car is $10,999. Because, you know, THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS ON THE WEBSITE. Also by this point, I've repeated the price, $10,999, to him at least six or seven times in the course of identifying the correct car. Ok so we started off going to the new to you location looking for the 2011 Ford Escape they had for around 12k. I have shitty credit but a loan with the Credit Acceptance corp and have a 1 rating (highest they rate you). Before going to dealership I called Credit Acceptance and found out the details. The dealership selects your down payment NOT credit Acceptance. They know I have an open loan with them and said sure we can get you setup with a 2nd car for you and your wife. Just make the co-signed on car 1 be primary on car 2 and the other co-signs. GREAT. So I go to this joint they say they can help. Get the run around with literally 4 different people at the new to you location. Get told no matter what they will need minimum 3k down.. Let's send you to the new car lot in Fall River. We have rebates that will help you out as a down payment... so I sit with 5 people at this place.. 5! 3 of them to ask the same question. "Do you have another co-signed" no to the 3 different people, like come on I'm not lying I don't. I told them from the get go I am interested in seeing my options and now it's just jam a Hyundai for over $35,000 down my throat and a $800 a month payment with my crappy credit and poor trade. I ask these 3 people who ask me for a 3rd signed (my wife and I both already applying) how much they are asking for down payment? Response "what can you give" I said no I don't have anything now but I'd like to know what my down payment would be. After saying no keep it and demanding what the requirements for a down payment would be they finally said $6,000. I said thank you for finally answering my question! And explained that's not possible right now but let me work on it. We end up happy not to have been stuck with the horrible payment and end up going to a local dealer I bought my last car from. We talk and call Credit Acceptance, they confirm we are a 1 rating. Ask we pay $1000 down payment on a $16,900 for fusion 2015 with 47k miles that is a hybrid fetching 48mpg and I have confirmed the mpg by driving it. Fantastic! Good car from good people no BS showed up at 4pm on a Wednesday drove it home 5pm on Thursday. So empire new to you said we could never get approved with anything under 3k down on a car worth 12k YET i get approved for a vehicle newer half the miles more expensive and a 1/3 the down payment. Bottom line empire I think you need to realize the consumer in some cases is more knowledgeable and can play your games. I told them I'd spoken to Credit Acceptance, they apparently didn't believe me or wanted to go a different way. What a joke of a car lot. They short of promised that they would come down to the price range that worked for me with no down payment and they didn't even come close. Was owed back $640 back of my extended warranty according to my CONTRACT. Apparently, there was a typo made in he dealerships behalf and I'm not get any refund. I've called about 25 times in regards to this. I've been sent to voice mail. Put on "do not disturb " so I couldn't get a live associate for assistance. Empire New to You is the shadiest dealership I've ever talked to. First, the advertised prices on their website are artificially low. At the very bottom of the listing pages, in small print, saying that "All Pre-owned vehicle pricing reflects $2,500 Cash or Trade Down". So add $2,500 to those prices. When asked about it, they'll tell you it's a standard practice in the industry these days. Not even remotely true. Second, I went there to look at a specific truck because it was advertised with a plow. Showed the plow in multiple pictures, included it in the feature listing and mentioned the plow three times in the description. When I got there to check it out, the plow was uninstalled from the truck. I asked the salesman what the deal was and he said they take them off occasionally to sell to other trucks when people want them. Odd, but ok. I said the advertisement said it came with a Fisher 8.5' Stainless V-plow and asked to confirm that was still the case at the advertised price. The salesman said "if it's in the advertisement, then yes - it comes with the plow at that price". When I reached out days later to follow up, I was told that no... the plow was not included and it would be over $2,000 more to add it. They made it sound like I was never told it was included, and shrugged off any responsibility for the fraudulent ad on their website saying a third party manages those. Was also basically told I was a fool for not jumping at the purchase at that price the first time I went down there. Massive bait and switch and I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB for false advertising. Apart from the false advertisement, I called a day ahead of time to tell them I was coming in. They had plenty of time to prep the car, but when I got there the next day it was still dirty from sitting for for months and it took them almost 40 minutes to find the key. It also had problems. Over a month later and I'm FINALLY done dealing with this dealership. I went to this dealership the morning of feb 29 after totaling my car the week before. I was stressed and ready to find a car after visiting a bunch of other dealerships I wasn't happy with. I did my research and came in ready to buy a preowned car. Everything was okay until i signed the dotted line. Once this place gets your money and signature they completely stop caring or doing their job. All they care about it making the sale - not finishing it. I drive for a living so I needed the car ASAP which they seemed to know prior to buying. Tony Reece was constantly forgetting to tell me simple steps I needed to do like sending them the binder information or getting the inspection. I had to go out of my way to call them over and over, looking for my registration and plates, just for them to tell me "oh yeah we need this document from you" or "oh yeah we physically need your car for the inspection." This didn't happen just once or twice but it happened with EVERY SINGLE document they needed from me. I would be patient and give them time before calling but they still put zero effort into finishing a sale with their customer. I called again and spoke to DJ (the manager) and he said "oh Tony didn't tell you we need a proof of address because you just moved?" Like how disorganized are you and your staff? After this I had to call AGAIN looking for my registration when DJ told me because of COVID19 there will be a delay. I bought my car February 29 and there's a delay??? The COVID-9 restrictions were JUST put on at this point... So I continued to hear absolutely nothing from them after this and last week I emailed DJ asking AGAIN for my registration, plates, and the spare key Tony Reece promised me. I was informed that they have had my registration and he "thought" someone let me know. And there is no spare key. Didn't even offer to help get me one. This place was absolutely HORRIBLE. It should NOT take two months to buy a car and your customer should not be the one constantly contacting you for the business that you are suppose to be providing. I will keep this review up here until I get my gap insurance refund. At the beginning of July 2020, I came to the dealership in order to cancel my gap insurance as I had paid off my car. Turns out, when I called them back to follow up, they had no gap insurance on record and I waited over 45 minutes just to receive the gap insurance agency number where I was transferred back and forth from finance to reception desk etc. I contact the gap insurance agency and they are wondering why nothing was sent to them and cancelled the insurance recently for July 2020 because I am not having less than the refund I deserve from July just because the dealership messed up. I am only giving a 1 because I have to. My husband and I are hardworking, Jesus loving, honest people that just wanted to buy a reliable car for my husband to get back and forth to work. We went here yesterday and test drove a 2019 Sonata. The list price on the window was $21,567.00. My husband liked the car so we went in to sit down and talk with her. The sales person that we were dealing with was a very nice young lady, but brand new to the company. This was her 6th day of work. We go in and sit down to talk to her, she goes to talk her manager and comes back and says, "Great news, we are going to give you 4 thousand dollars off, so this is the price $21,567.00." My response was are you kidding? That is the sticker price on the car!!" So now her manager comes over, drops the price to $19,995. and my husband and I got up to walk out. The manager says, what can we do, what is the problem we want to do business with you. My response was, "to be totally honest with you, we have bought many cars and this is the first time we have ever went to buy a car and they come back with the opening bid to be the sticker price on the car, and you are telling us you are taking $4,000 off. Not interested in doing business with you. But thank you for your time" So now miraculously the price drops to $18,995 and we still get up to walk away, and they want to drop the price even more. We walked out. Not interested in giving my money to dishonest people. The kicker to all this was that the payments for the $19,995 with $5,000. down was going to be $487.00 monthly. Are you kidding me. We were smart enough to walk. I can only imagine all the hidden cost that was going to be added to the loan agreement without us knowing. Be very careful of this place. One thing we did not do was allow them to do a credit check on us. They were pressuring us to do it and I said no way, no how, until we know all details of price and interest rates. We were not going to allow you to do a hard credit check on us to bring the points on our credit score down. I wish I would have done my homework first. I would have seen all the reviews and would have never waisted our time going to this place. We ended up going to Hyundai of Newport. Dropped off this vehicle on May 28. After first stating they were unable to locate the vehicle it then took more than a week to determine the issue. During this week a total of 4-5 hours was actually spent on diagnosing the issue. On June 2 I was asked to provide my vehicle service records as they were needed to submit the warranty info to the company that handles this for Hyundai. Today, June 11, ( 9 days later) I contacted this company who stated they only received this information this morning and had sent the dealership a request for additional information which was never opened. That means at best it will have taken 11 days to simply send and respond to an email. Today is Day 22 they have had my vehicle and as far as I can tell all that has been done is 4-5 hours of diagnostic work and the inability to correctly send an email. I called this dealership because I was interested in purchasing a CPO vehicle they had listed in their website. I had a messaging conversation before hand with them. Told them I lived far away and I needed to make sure the car was available and the price was correct. When I got there they told me the car was sold "but they had other models to show me". Went in to just look at options to get out of my auto loan and was told to fill out a credit application, and the whole sale from then on felt rushed. first the salesman was offering to put me in a 2022 Hyundai sonata, but after I looked at it, he proceeded to tell me it was sold (it wasn't, was there five days later) and told me they had a used one out back. they didn't tell me it was in an accident, and sold it to me for RETAIL MSRP, mind you the car is used with 7000 miles on it in 2022 and its a 2019. After signing the paperwork, he told me I could take the car home and just fill out the paperwork tomorrow to finalize the sale. Nobody told the finance manager i was coming the next day, so he was scrambling to get everything ready. If i could recommend anything, don't buy a Hyundai from these people, and if you do make sure its brand new or its going to dig the gold out of your pockets. This is the worst dealership that I have ever dealt with. The sales people are liars, deceitful, and they give customers the run around on every issue. I bought a car two months ago and I am still not done dealing with these imbeciles. Through this process, two sales people were fired, they bait and switch with car price, and yet they still have not registered my car. They have given me so many excuses as to why they have not followed through with this task including, but not limited to the fact that I live in Rhode Island, they send multiple registrations to the DMV via courier, sent the registration four weeks after I bought the car, etc. In addition, scratches that we agreed upon to be fixed were not. We even found a false eyelash in the interior of the car upon delivery clearly indicating the car was not cleaned and detailed as promised. It has caused me great distress in my personal and professional life as I drive for a living. I expressed my dismay and disgust with their business practices to the general manager several times and stated the fact that I would be calling cooperate. He said "cooperate doesn't care". This is painfully obvious by the way they allow their dealerships to conduct business as evidenced by the caliber of their salespeople, the disgusting appearance of the dealership, and the lack of professionalism by all those that I encountered. However, I did file a complaint with cooperate anyway. Bottom line...preserve your sanity and stay away from Empire Hyundai. read more
