This was a last minute spontaneous try at Chinese food. They are just a few minutes down the street. The restaurant is very clean and the decor is classic Chinese restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised that they had duck on the menu! And Pad Thai. We got orange chicken, which was fried crisp in a true orange sauce with orange rind. The vegetables were fresh and cooked so they snapped, aka perfectly. We also got the Mongolian beef, extra meat, few onions. The sauce was dark and delicious , beef was tender. This was a nice surprise and a delicious authentic Chinese dinner. We will be ordering regularly now! read more

Kind of a peculiar place, AC off on a blistering hot day, many of the lights off, they didn't have cold drinks, no ice, and missing some menu items. Chinese-American cuisine that mainly caters to elderly White people in the neighborhood. Might be the best Chinese in town. Might be the only Chinese restaurant in town. read more

Emperor’s Kitchen - Chinese Near Me - Zion, Illinois

If this was the "Emperor's Kitchen", I would hate to see what feudal servants ate in China. I now know why we were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday night at 6pm. To start, we were served water with ice that had frozen contaminants and particulate in it that was melting into the water. Absolutely disgusting. We had the option of bottled water or water without ice. I chose bottled water. The food was meh, nothing special and mostly boring. It was basically frozen Chinese food from a food service truck that had to be fried. Although I did have to roll the dice on whether I'd get food poisoning. The thing that tilted in my favor was the food was dunked in boiling grease. There were unidentified pieces of something on the plate, perhaps crumbs that have been over fried? And the grand finale? No fortune cookies. Why? Because they were all stale. The waiter literally told us this. And the waiter, very poor and slow service. We saw him very few times and we had to constantly remind him of things we had asked for previously. To be honest I'd rather eat a grocery store sandwich because I know I wouldn't get sick from it. read more

I ordered beef, chow mein, beef, egg, foo, young. two shrimp eggrolls, crab Rangoon order. My egg foo young had no sprouts I don't know what they served me. The egg rolls had no shrimp. The cabbage wasn't even cooked. The the dry noodles were stale. The breading on the crab Rangoon they were out of a frozen bag. The cashier was polite the mildew odor as you come in hits you in the face. I don't think this place makes a living selling food . I only get one chance to eat at these places. I paid for your product. Good hard earned cash . You served poor quality you didn't care and sold subpar products no second chance read more

i cant get enough of their shrimp pad Thai! my kid LoVeS the teriyaki chicken with vegetable fried rice!! we're always welcomed with friendly service and a comfortable place to wait for our food. read more

Emperor’s Kitchen - Chinese Near Me - Zion, Illinois

When we decided to try Emperor's Kitchen in Winthrop Harbor IL,we did not realize that their food and drink were from the age of the Ming Dynasty. The water served had specks and eventually the waiter substituted bottled water. The service was slow in coming out of the kitchen and the waiter was forced to indicate there were no Chinese cookies as they had all gone stale. The management will be forced to recognize, just as was the case with the Ming dynasty, that the failure to adequately handle the hunger of those it serves will be its downfall. It will soon join the fate of all the other restaurants that used to surround the Emperor's kitchen and will be a footnote in history. read more

The food is great, I haven't try everything but so far so good. Also the place is very clean and the staff is friendly

I asked for no baby corn and water chestnuts and they still put them in there. I y dish had no chicken in there. If I wanted a veggie dish I would have specified!! Waste of 12.99 read more

the rice was terrible and it wasn't good at all but other than that was my concerns but everything is seems okay

The food is excellent and the portions sizes are generous. The food was prepared on time as estimated. My new Chinese food spot!!!

We decided to give this restaurant a try tonight and never again! As we were serving our $50 dinner at home there was a strand of hair at the bottom of the rice which looked like a pubic air. I called the restaurant back to let them know and they refused to give us our money, but offered to make us a fresh batch. With what? More pubes like this is ridiculous. We even called Zion police for assistance and they said nothing could be done. So we strongly suggest stay away from the restaurant unless you don't mind. Next call will bet the Lake County Board of Health. read more

I took my wife there for lunch, the best thing on the menu is the egg rolls and soup, passable shrimp dim sum and chicken pot stickers. WARNING DO NOT order sweet and sour chicken. They used spoiled chicken to make this dish. The coconut shrimp was okay as well. read more

The food was not fresh, you can tell it was from earlier in the day or either the previous day because I could hardly chew the chicken. The chicken also had a sour smell. The Mongolian beef was extremely spicy. read more

Don't listen to the people on google, this is a very good restaurant. People are very nice and friendly, they really care about you. Now, they only give you forks to start off with, but they're pretty fancy forks. I do enjoy them. It might not look pretty great on the inside, but don't let that take away from the food. The food is DELICIOUS. P.S. the General Tsos SLAPPED. (Teen reference meaning it was very good) read more

Horrible from beginning to start! If I could give it zero stars I would. First off, we there at 6:30pm to have dinner for my brothers birthday. There was literally 1 table already eating. A couple came in after us and was placing a takeout order. The place was empty! The guy at the front didn't even sit us until 20 minutes after we arrived because he was so concerned with going into the kitchen to help the cook put together takeout orders. The phone only rang once while we waited for an hour!!! I'm all for supporting local businesses, but this guy had lots of trouble understanding English, that he even had to call someone on his cell phone to help him translate what the couple was asking of him. We waited while he sat on the phone asking another person on the line about an order he had trouble understanding. Why isn't there someone else to help him? And why even open for dining when you're obviously not ready to serve? He was only concerned with take outs! Never came back to ask us if we wanted an appetizer or water refills. My mom got so upset that his service was beyond poor! And we're patient people, but an hour seriously? After the hour marker we all got up and left! Never coming back. Either get help up front or don't even bother having dine in! I'm sure other people will suffer as we did. I'm going back to speak to the owner and this ruined my brothers birthday dinner! This change of management was not impressive at all. I have to tell the owner that his restaurant is going to suffer if he keeps that guy up front by himself. read more

Loved everything we ordered. Crab Rangoon, House Special Lo Mein, House Fried Rice, Dry Fried String Bean, Sesame Chicken and Egg Rolls. Dinner for a couple nights+ read more

The menu is huge as it includes both Mandarin and Cantonese. This means they have Low Mein, Chow Mein, Chop Suey, Sweet and Sour, Moo Shu.....well the menu is 8 pages so it takes awhile to read. The place is a regular restaurant with many places to sit with authentic decor. Everything is also available in take-out. I really like the lunch special which includes 3 meat entrees and fried rice for under $5, they will ask what you want for entree. Closed on Tuesdays. Really good Chinese food. read more

First of all the egg rolls were spoiled. We also ordered shrimp fried rice, shrimp egg foo young, Mongolian chicken, and vegetable delight. The shrimp fried rice and the egg foo young had a bit of a stale taste to it. Both dishes were luke-warm when we received them. This restaurant is right up the street from us and our uber driver was on time. So..it wasn't the driver. The Mongolian chicken and vegetable delight tasted ok. Plus the oil that the food was fried in needed to be changed. I was salty that we didn't get fortune cookies. We spent a little over $50 and I won't be ordering again. read more

First of all the portions are HUGE. They don't have a kids menu but it's not needed since there was plenty to share! The egg drop soup was amazing! The place doesn't look the best but the food tasted great and the service was great too!! Would def come back! read more

Emperor’s Kitchen - Egg Drop soup - Chinese Near Me - Zion, Illinois

Perfectly cooked egg foo young, very impressed. Best egg foo young around. Fluffy egg patty. Orange Chicken is also another plus. Chicken was crispy, sauce was glazed onto the chicken. Only knock is it did not come with broccoli; something that I have come to expect with a good orange chicken dish. Portions are huge. *** On to the rest of my experience. We ordered a "two in the basket" dish that was supposed to come with a "crispy potato basket". Just to find out when we got home that the only offer that portion of the meal as dine in. It was a huge fail, as the entree on the menu said beef and shrimp and we opened a box of chicken and veggies. The chicken and veggies tasted good, however we were very disappointed in the service there. Also, count your bill up, I read a review talking about how they add tips. We ordered 40 dollars worth of food and paid about 50 walking out the store. Crab Rangoon is a no. Tastes like they put plain cream cheese into a wrapper. Egg rolls are not very impressive either. Tastes like one you could get from the freeze isle. Overall: I would order again, but only in small orders. I would probably just get an egg foo young, and orange chicken, in order to keep the bill small. read more

I drove about a half hour to try Whey Chai with my friend. My friend had heard a lot about it so we thought we would give it a try. Upon entering we saw an old building but a beautiful interior. There was no one in the building, that should have been a warning. We ordered the the egg rolls and sweet and sour chicken. This is not the typical Chinese restaurant without the "red sauce" that I am familiar with. My friend enjoyed it, however quite frankly it was the worst Chinese food I've ever tried. The food was hot, but the rice was stale. I'm Surprised I didn't get food poisoning . The key to their success is the service. The lady was one of the nicest customer service. She was an older lady but still was kind and not invasive. I feel torn. The service was amazing, however the food doesn't warrant a trip back. She was so nice and they really tried. It was worth a to try once. I do reccom giving it a try. read more

Goooood Sesame chicken is good tase.sesame chicken is good ,seafood delight is well.

I ordered shrimp chow mein. Their description said it had mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts which it did not. I got it delivered. Please, when you pack up chow mein, please pack the noodles separate. They are supposed to be crunchy. What I got was basically hot, soggy lettuce with even soggier noodles and a few shrimp. It was awful and I didn't receive my entire order. I used to work across the street from this place and ate there often. Food was great back then. read more

Really enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered. Many vegetables and chicken and beef dishes were all cooked to perfection: Very tender and was seasoned well. The only complaint as that the food was not ready on time - but the customer before us made multiple trips to his car so I suspect that was the problem. Food was worth waiting for and we will return! read more

I would never order from these guys again. The orange chicken was a bunch of chicken scraps that were so over cooked they were like charcoal. The sweet and sour chicken was terrible too. Waste of money. read more

Food is bland, service is mediocre at best and they charge for things that typically come with the dish. Did not see or taste any crab in the crab Rangoon. read more

Great food! They give you a lot of food for a good price. The menu has many, many dishes to choose from, and is delicious. The woman that always greets and serves us is very kind and always remembers us and our friends. Service is quick and food is fresh. Quiet atmosphere and love coming here. read more

The food here was tasteless and greasy. The tables were wobbly and menus greasy, too. We were the only people in the restaurant for dinner on a Thursday night. We didn't enjoy anything about our visit. read more

Walked in the door one Saturday for lunch and turned right around. The place was disgusting with dirty tables from a party the night before.

Great food both times I've been here. No waiting and very decent prices for the quality of food. Sadly not many people in but like I said the food and service were great! read more

We've lived in Zion about 17 years now and we are wondering why we haven't tried his place before. The decor is nothing to write home about, it is dated but does bring to mind a Chinese restaurant. If decor is your thing, you're in trouble. However, the food is outstanding! My wife had the Sesame Chicken and she said it was very good. I had the Moo Shu Chicken with Mandarin pancakes. It was outstanding! Seasoned just right and the pancakes were superb. The waitress/Hostess even showed me how to properly roll the Moo shu into the pancakes! She was also wonderful, attentive but not hovering. The rice was cooked just right. Our friends had the Hunan Triple and it was the best I've ever tasted. Yes, it wasn't crowded(our party was the only ones in) but don't let that deter you from trying the wonderful food and service. read more

Absolutely terrible!! Huge menu , but don't be fooled, nothing taste good or fresh. Small proportions, you have to beg for hot mustard and duck sauce, do not waste your time or money read more

Food is average Chinese. We ordered delivery and they added about .50 to every item we ordered as a "tip". We didn't realize it until after we tipped the driver. Check your receipt. read more

Huge disappointment! Everything tasted like it was reheated. Crab Rangoon was DISGUSTING. The sweet and sour sauce was gelatinous. They shorted us a container of rice and gave no sauce for our pick up order. This menu is going straight in the trash, next to the uneaten food. read more

Well i order here often since it was the closest thing to me. I wont say its the best ive ever eaten. But the spicy chicken fried rice is really good. I tried the general tso chicken, and chicken broccoli. Even some fried chicken wings, but i will just stick to the spicy fried chicken rice and continue on with my day. They get the 4 star because when i was hungry they were open, even in snow storms. Thanks food lady for remembering my order. Lol read more
