A friend of ours was playing at this bar so we decided to check it out. It's not a large space but a great place to listen to live music. Staff is very friendly. They have few snacks to purchase so don't go hungry. Also there is no table service. You need to go to the bar for your drinks. We didn't find that a problem at all. read more

Great little place, great music, friendly bartenders, but it is a little rundown. I guess cool for a hole in the wall with great jazz. Last time I was there, I did have a fly swim in my wine glass. I had a blast! Oh what fun! Located close to the Willowbend Subdivision. If you aren't familiar with the area Emmit's place is between Hw 90 and the 610 entrance ramp on to 610 - Located right off of S. Post Oak. Emmit's backs up into the neighborhood. Anyway, several bands were playing that night. All blues, funk, jazz, everything fun! There was some dancing on the dance floor, but not much. Tables, table tops, and bar area seating. Lots of GREAT people watching. Everyone is friendly! Great prices on drinks. There was even a food being grilled/cooked in the parking lot. Seriously, I've lived in the area for 20 years and have never been. BIG MISTAKE! I will absolutely be back. Oh what fun! Did a gig at Emmit's club in Houston Texas and I did two long rehearsals to prepare and arrived two hours early to set up and stayed an hour over time and played my heart out, the whole band got $70 what a wake up call about Houston Clubs I will never play there and I feel like I got screwed!!!! First time hangin out in Houston. Too bad the rain drove the crowds away. But it enraptured all of what neighborhood bad is. If you're looking for gimmick, you looking under the wrong rock!!!!! Enjoyed my first visit, great band, Klockwork, singing old school & Motown. Also enjoyed the tea they had available as I'm a non drinker. Attire and crowd both were a mix in dress, age and ethnicity. Felt very comfortable going in alone, seemed everyone was just enjoying the music and the food from the outside grill. Cover this night was $10. Wil return especially if I see Klockwork scheduled again. read more

Great music at times, but tonight the New Jack Hippies are so obnoxiously loud that you cannot enjoy them. I am out on the front porch and they sound good through the wall. It is a shame that we cannot enjoy their presentation as well. I think that the management at Emmit's would keep the sound at a tolerable level. Tonight is steak, 'tater, and salad night so we are anticipating good food from the cooking trailer folks outside...it smells great. We will be balancing our plates on our knees on the front porch. We will not be staying long in spite of paying a small cover charge. I hope to salvage the evening by going to The Continental Club and hearing Beetle. The volume there is reasonable and partly absorbed by a good crowd. (The "crowd" at Emmit's is 4 people, but it is early at 6:30 p.m for some reason.) I have had good experiences here listening to music before. read more

Never had positive experience at Emmit's. This is the only dive bar that I've ever been to that charges cover to get in. It would be one thing if it was in a trendier area but it's on the edge of my neighborhood and off of South Post Oak. I don't want to hurt anyones feelings but this is equivalent to Hunters charging a cover. read more

The definition of a neighborhood bar. Pop in for a drink when you are around South Post Oak and 610 or make a night of it with friends. Did i mention the live music! From Blues, Rock to Zydeco this place has the perfect set up for live music. Houston acts and well as regional ones. Since this is a bar, the drinks are nice and stiff! read more

Drove here from the Woodlands about 50 miles to hear a band, the band was a no show. Other than that the staff were friendly, so were the customers. The bar has a interesting line up so I will give it a second chance. Hopefully the band makes it. read more

After dropping in on a Saturday it was well worth it to hear live music tonight. The band, "O.D. And the House Rules" had it all and was so entertaining. Walking into this down home, rustic venue reminds you of rocking on the porch swing of a Victorian style plantation drinking a glass of ice tea. Tucked away behind a shopping center and off the main road, Emmit's Place is not the easiest to find. Not the friendliest bunch of regulars in the world, but upon entering you'll realize the curtains don't really match the drapes: outside is southern country, inside is like a blues speakeasy. You'll feel a slight air of history when you gaze upon the ole timey posters of classic blues and jazz musicians coupled with the intimacy of the "cozy" stage tucked in the back. Drinks are priced fairly, but the open mic on Monday's takes you back to those early Ray Charles days when it was about a song telling a story that only a raw, powerful, yet gutteral voice that has been through the blues can relay. Overall, Emmit's Place is a great place for the experienced, blue collar American to relax, throw back a jack and coke and let the southern sounds of the house band take you back to the days of old read more
