This place ruined my hair and my confidence. They gave me the most botched hair cut I have ever received and cut my butt length curly hair to my shoulder blades. SOME of this was shrinkage, I'm saying this so you know I'm not being dramatic, as a result my confidence has been much less sense then normal. I feel as if my hairstylist had lost her touch and became lackluster with the services. I went from a big chop over 2.5 years ago at this salon which gave me no confidence at all to absolutely loving it now. I had a recent appointment which resulted in my hair now being as short as it used to be unnecessarily. I went from a lovely V shape and was interested to get it cut more rounded with volume at the top, but to maintain as much length as possible. One side is shorter than the other and my hair barely fits in a bun without gel/hair spraying it completely down. I also asked for the darkest gloss, I mentioned for a dark chocolate brown this time after agreeing that the previous blue-black color was too dark, but it came out black. I thought the prior appointment in January of 2025 was a one off when I asked to get it straightened, I left with it smelling burnt and one side completely heat damaged after I wet it. I had concerns regardless that the heat may ruin it after completely cutting off straightening after the big chop. She reassured me that my hair was "too curly" for that to happen, yet it did. Very disappointed in the prior experience and now sad as for the recent one. Out of respect for the stylist, I will not mention names because I am sure it may have just been what I asked that couldn't be achieved with my hair type, giving the benefit of the doubt. read more

The staff are so nice and welcoming inside, immediately offering something to drink. The place is always clean and smelling like fragrance. I've always been taken on time for my appointment and never had to wait long, unlike doctors offices where you could wait for 30 minutes to be taken back. I always go to the same hair stylist for my hair cuts, and she does a great job every time! She always makes my hair look great and reminds me how nice it feels to get a hair cut. My original review was done in 2019 and I copy/pasted here in case you haven't read it... 2019- Although I have been wearing my hair curly for years, I have never had a diva cut until a few months ago. It's so hard to find a salon that people know how to work curly hair. Well, this is a problem no more! I had Courtney do my haircut and I also got highlights. She asked me what I wanted from both (in my case I wanted a cut to give me more volume but also that I could tie back for my job) She also let me choose the shade for the highlights and how light I wanted to go. The treatment feels like you are at a spa. Even though is over 1 hr drive for me I will definitively go back! Now in 2022 I can say I still stand by that original review. I only trust them with my curls (still Courtney having to deal with me!) and they always follow through. I believe having a good experience is good; but when things don't go quite right how they handle it says 1000 times more. Last time I visited I got highlights and although it wasn't noticeable when I left, when I pulled my hair back a few days later I noticed that there was a part the color didn't quite take. I called them and they were VERY understanding and got me in quite fast and got it fixed. I think this was a fluke and didn't have anything to do with my hairstylist. Had a great experience at Emma D's getting a cut, wash and style. Bari is excellent with Black hair- she took time to understand what I wanted, look at a few Pinterest pictures and discuss what was important to me. Her assistant did a great wash, took her time detangling and applying the styling gel. I was very pleased with my cut and style and highly recommend her services. It can be tough finding stylist that know how to manipulate and work with Black natural hair but she did great. The service from everyone was great- salon was clean and welcoming! If you're looking for someone to style your curls, offer great service and a great environment this is a great option. By the way, she continually encouraged me to provide feedback to ensure I was getting what I wanted. I wish I had a copy of the before and after pictures but you'll just have to take my word that I received exactly what I wanted. read more

Selfishly I hesitate to write this as I don't want Michelle to book up more than she is BUT I must write this as a curly girl who has gotten cuts from the best salons in the country. I recently moved from SF and had to find a new stylist which is always nerve wracking. She is magic and by far the best stylist I've had. She gets what you want and makes it happen. I've never had anyone shape my curly hair so quickly into exactly what I was hoping for. She also explains every product she's using and makes sure you have all the info you need to care for your hair when you walk out. Lastly the salon is beautiful and everyone is so nice. I booked an appointment via the booking email. Everything was fine and I was advised to call to pay the deposit. I called and spoke with Alyssia. I inquired about the deposit process due to calling the previous day and booking and was not advised a deposit was needed. Alyssia must've been triggered by me inquiring about the process because she then decides to state to me, "Either you can pay the deposit or not". So, this is how you choose to speak/treat your customers for asking a simple question? THEN she hung up on me because I asked to speak to the Manager. THEN she canceled all of my appointments! I guess this a typical Snobbsdale Salon. I will NOT tolerate this type of rude unprofessionalism that isn't warranted. You should teach your employees to be kind, courteous, and answer questions willingly. I'm appalled and disgusted and now you won't receive a dollar from me! You all are probably racist anyways, I can't think of any other reason why I was treated this way?! read more

As an African American woman with type 3b curly hair, I would not recommend. I enjoyed the experience yet not the care that went into managing and styling my hair was not giving luster and enjoyment. The marketing here is nice and shows that they are open to African American hair yet misleading when you actually experience how they care for African American hair. List of Red Flags I noticed to late : 1. When sectioning my hair for color, I understand it's best on unwashed hair yet trying to use a small comb to section and comb my hair will only rip my hair. 2. There's really no need to use a brush to detangle my hai when conditioning/washing. I use my fingers all the time and it works just fine. Brushing to detangle just separates the curl further. And if you are going to use a brush/comb, at least use a large wide tooth comb and start at the ends gently working your way up. 3. Lack of styling options after receiving a Rezocut e.g. not knowing what finger coiling is. Suggestion to salon 1. Please Familiarize your stylist with Afro textured hair and at least know that it will take longer to manage than silky hair. 2. Also please be sure you know which stylist is comfortable and well equipped to style Afro textured hair 3. Also it's not discriminatory if you just let African American women know you do not have the ability to provide the level of care that is needed to properly manage or style African American hair. read more

After trying a few & not being happy with the salons, my daughter & I found this salon & have been working with Courtney as our hair stylist. Both my daughter & I are able to embrace our curls. Courtney is trained in both Deva Cut & Rezo Cut methods. She listens to what we want in color & style & works with us. I love chatting with Bari the owner as well. Everyone is friendly & treats each guest as a friend. The salon is clean & inviting. It's fun to go & feel pampered & have a little escape & look forward to a good experience. I received my 2nd curly cut ever and I was totally let down. Maryanne cut my hair and it was... not great. First I thought I'd be getting the special $65 curly cut but it ended being $115 because she wasn't apart of that promotion. That sucked. Also, I've gotten more volume and definition on my curls on my own than after she cut and styled my hair. So I left the salon really feeling like I had a whatever curly cut, no tips on how to help my hair or ways to help my waves/curls be healthier, and paid way to much when I thought I'd be paying a lot less. read more

UPDATE: This salon went above and beyond after my hair disaster to get me re-scheduled and read to go to get the look I actually wanted. Gianna did an amazing job taking my yellow hair to something that actually looks like what I originally requested. She was super attentive and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. I was super grateful for her and the front desk workers who made sure my hair was fixed and looking gorgeous (at no cost to me). See below for my original experience: ******* I scheduled an appointment for a Deva Cut and full Pintura, even sent my stylist pictures of what I wanted beforehand for the color. My stylist arrived 45min late, and I was ready to let that go because she was nice and whatnot. We got down to work and the experience was good overall. Nice amenities in the salon and offers for water, tea, and cHowever, when I saw the final product, I was less than satisfied. The dynamic color I wanted that would blend naturally into my darker roots was not what I got. Instead I had dark roots and a mix of platinum and brassy blonde hair. The stylist openly admitted that my hair was brassy and gave me a little sample of purple shampoo for it. I was trying not to be upset so I just paid and left, but my hair is not worth the nearly $300 I spent on it. read more

This is a curl friends dream come true! Jenni and the staff were amazing. I came in for a curly cut and color and after speaking with Jenni - she understood what I really needed was a color correction, cut and color. That doubled the time and even though she had a fully booked day - she made time for me. I couldn't be more happy with the results. She was attentive, understanding and did more than an amazing job. I left feeling happy and loving my curls. I don't think I've seen my curls look healthier and happier. read more

Not a fan. First, not a single person discussed pricing at any time during the process. Not when I called to make an appointment, not when I checked in, not the stylist. I expect to pay $100-150 for a curly cut. $275 for a simple wash and cut is ridiculous. Not to mention Bari didn't even do her own clients hair, an assistant did the wash and style. Additionally I specifically noted that the hair at the nape of my neck has a looser wave than the crown of my head and therefore needs to be cut shorter to prevent the look of a mullet on day two hair. Not only did Bari completely ignore this, she acted like I never mentioned this when I went back for a six week trim. Overall the staff is just unprofessional and unwelcoming. Will take my business elsewhere. read more

I saw Maryanne...my hair is growing back from cancer two years ago so I have curls (it was curly before chemo). I wanted to get my hair in shape to get the curls really going when it grows out. Maryanne was great, she walked me through the steps of what she was going to do and how to maintain my hair. She listen to my needs and since it was short anyway she left some areas which was good and cut and reshaped using the devacut. On a side note...I left my jacket and the location is about 1/2 hour from me and the receptionist lives on my side of town and offered to bring it to my house. Curly heads Heaven is @ Emmi D Atmoshphere: its in north Scottsdale and I hate to say it but I already had my assumptions. Pretentious is what I was prepared to deal with. Wow did my assumption make an a$$ out of me ! Everyone was so welcoming and attentive from the receptionist to my stylist Scott. My stylist: Initially i thought what would he know about a Caribbean girls hair texture like me? My hair is not coarse however it is most certainly not fine. He made me feel comfortable, was knowledgeable and took my 50,000 questions in stride. And even educated me on my own hair! He immediately noticed my bad trim job from my previous cut and urged me to even it out. I was very hesitant as I love length. But I have to admit my hair was growing at an angle due to the bad cut. I'm glad I let him do his thing. The salon: Tucked away in a cute plaza this place is gorgeous ! DEVACURL HEAVEEEN! I loved the lighting and the massage chair for when your hair is being shampooed and conditioned. They offer you water and Fiji at that. And to top it off the owner is a DEVA CURL EDUCATOR. I thought that was so cool. Price: it ain't cheap being a curly girl but I believe it to be worth it. I paid 125 +tip for a devacurl cut I received loads of education and a "specialty cut" comparing to other salons the price is fair for this kind of cut. read more

My hair is super curly and was really long to my waist and she cut it short just like i requested . She is polite, very informative , and very nice. I went to Bari for a Deva Cut... fairly happy with the cut. But Bari is abrasive in her communication- she asked me why I did a particular step in my curl routine. I told her the flagship NY DevaCurl salon taught me that... she made a snort of disbelief (quite rude) and told me "that doesn't make sense" (like I would make that up). The assistants seemed a little scared of her, and she was pretty condescending to them. I think Bari is the type of person who doesn't realize how she comes across to others and in general, has a somewhat argumentative manner of speech. I'm torn, as there are no other local curl salons... and maybe she was just having a bad day. read more

Gianna is fantastic with my hair and always asks questions for my input on what I like. Been going to her for about a year & plan to keep going back every few weeks for a color & cut. A little late in writing this review--I've never written a Yelp review before!--but I'm so happy with my haircut I had to. I got my first ever proper curly cut from Arika, who basically read my mind and gave me exactly what I wanted: a cut that added volume, highlighted my curls, and framed my face. For reference I have low density curls that are (I think) a mix of 2c with some 2b and 3a, so you may want to ask for Arika if you have a similar curl type. While I don't have the skill to style it quite as well as she did (I'll need to ask for more tips next time), I still like the way my hair looks when I do it myself. Unsure of their pricing-my first time was Monday so highlights will be 50% off with free blow dry! Yay, right?! After the work the machine for credit card starts with tip, I hit 20%-$48.00. The breakdown: add in's: Bond Pro, $50., I scoop of Lightner Add $12, Silk Serum, $2.00, Silk Lift serum, $2.00 Flat Iron, $10.00 totaling $150.00 with a $48.00 tip oh plus partial highlights, $72.00 and these all represent 50% off each item apparently? Total amount, $198.00. The machine adds up incorrectly, it comes to $2.00 less...hmmm...I went back to talk about it; I had an appointment anyhow...what a can worms opened up! They couldn't answer the question clearly and precisely and promised a manager to call me...she didn't...another front desk person called and she didn't explain it correctly! I was trying to find out the "integrity" of this salon and since no one could truly answer why these extra charges are there and tip is first based upon EVERYTHING (are they there on full price day-I wondered) and tip is first? This adds up to what a full price highlight would be plus more! They do not understand my question (but it's not their money, so they don't really care!) and no manager call back...not sure I'll be returning based on their integrity + fees and they cannot call a client back who planned on coming in weekly...something is up and it's not me! They yelled at me to call around and find out about tips based upon premium numbers in restaurants and more and not what it is..I don't have an issue with money...it's the clarity of the situation...did I say she finally said, "Have a nice day, click" Ouch...something isn't right here and I got my question answered regarding their integrity. read more

Emmi D is one of those places that I love so much that I feel I have to tell every human about it whenever I get the chance. Totally not to be dramatic but then my hair life fully changed when I started seeing Jenni for my hair back at the old salon. When Emmi D opened a few years later, I was SO excited to see the hard work the owners put in and the devotion that they have to curly hair. There are multiple DevaCurl trained stylists, including Jenni who is my hair hero. They truly know curls and want to give you the best experience possible, which includes working with you to understand your hair. The salon is also a beautiful and relaxing environment to spend time in (the shampoo chairs are massage chairs for goodness' sake) and the people who work there are respectful and helpful, always offering beverages (coffee, tea, water, etc) and/or a treat. I have only been there for my hair but I know they offer a large variety of spa services as well. Oooh they also have a cool point system where you earn points and can use them to offset the cost of a service or product. It's amazing and just an added benefit. Whenever I meet someone with curly hair, I recommend this place wholeheartedly. Actually, now that I think of it, I pretty much recommend this to anyone with any hair at all. Also, I will echo what some other reviewers say with regards to cost, which is on the higher side. However, my teacher wallet gladly pays more for the quality and care Emmi D takes with my curls.
