Every meal comes with a fresh (actual green and rainbow veg) salad beforehand. The touches in this place make it cozy, too - thick cloth napkins, stoneware plates and mugs. Real wood chairs. Interesting art on the walls. Plus, for drinks, they have something for everyone. Classic soda drinkers can get a homemade soda. Hot tea drinkers can get a loose leaf pot. Even milk for the kids. Servers were attentive but not overly so, knowledge about the menu, and willing to work with us on changes. The owner oriented us to the menu. Major bonus : while we waited for the food, we shopped at the mercantile general store attached they also own that has some really special whole food / locally sourced items. They are open for dinner every night after 5pm. On every road trip past Clarksville, I will return!

My issue was mainly with the personal interaction with the staff. I arrived just at opening so I had to excuse the unprepared host and their efforts still getting the menus folded and ready. As for the other interaction, and I really appreciated the information on where the food was sourced, however I felt there was no time to talk to my date as the conversation was overwhelmed by frequent and unexpected interruption. As for the beers, I would say they were ok. Nothing stands out to me on their characteristic, and I had a hard time finding one that fit my liking.

The flavors are rich, everything is seasoned with care, and clearly made by folks who love what they do. You can actually taste the intention in the food. The Mac & cheese, yams, and greens are all delicious too so sometimes it's hard to choose. Just know you gotta top it off with the spirulina drink. But it's not just about the food (though the food is bomb.com). The customer service is top tier and the whole damn place is just a vibe--from the energy when you walk in, to the little free library shelf tucked right next to the counter like an altar for knowledge and community care. I always leave here in a good mood. That right there tells you everything you need to know! This isn't just a restaurant, it's a staple in the community and I'm glad this business exists. We went for breakfast and after looking up on Yelp and the biscuits and gravy were amazing the owner was our waitress and she was so polite and nice to us. And we asked her if we could talk to the cook cuz we wanted to hire her fly her to Phoenix take her to our favorite place here and have her teach him how to make gravy and biscuits like they had there she actually brought her out from the back and we were kidding around with her. And we asked we saw the menu and we asked her about the catfish and she said we only have catfish on Friday this was Thursday so we said well by golly will be back tomorrow to get some of that catfish. We returned about 12:30 on Friday afternoon and the place was packed. I walked in and right inside the door there were two gentlemen sitted at a table for six and I asked them could we see with them and I would pay for their lunch and they said no you don't have to pay for us just come on in and sit down we got four chairs and they were four of us so we sat down with them and we had a great conversation to them and they were so nice. We all ordered the catfish and to say that it was amazing is an understatement. My son ordered his with a bowl of pinto beans and he said they were out of this world he said they were even better than mine LOL. When we got the bill it was only $103 that was for six of us including full meals we all ordered the large order of catfish with sides and the prices were to say the least shocking how do they make any money? Unfortunately, my most recent visit was the complete opposite. We were seated all the way in the back near an exit, next to a very large and extremely loud party. There were also flies in the area, which made the seating even less enjoyable. Between the noise, bright lights, and overall atmosphere, it wasn't a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. The hostess told us it would be fine to move to the bar, so we did. However, our waitress seemed very upset that we moved, even though the bar wasn't her section. Before we could even order drinks, the situation became uncomfortable due to the negative attitude and lack of communication. Instead of asking if something was wrong or if there was anything they could do to improve our experience, there seemed to be frustration directed toward us for simply wanting to relocate. What made the experience worse was the staff members were talking about the situation rather than addressing it professionally. At that point, we decided to leave without ordering. I've worked in customer service and understand that busy shifts and large parties can be stressful. However, guests should never feel like an inconvenience for wanting a comfortable place to dine. The difference between my first visit and this one was night and day. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback because the restaurant clearly has the potential to provide excellent service--I experienced it myself on my first visit.
