I was diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction and IBS-C about 8 years ago. I also have an enlarged colon. Needless to say, I have suffered in an enormous, life-disrupting way from gastrointestinal pain and discomfort. I tried everything for this - I have seen the best gastroenterogists, gynecologists and urologists in NYC (feel free to message me for their info), gone to Beyond Basics for physical therapy (I did this for about 6 months at the age of 23), and even completed the Mayo Clinic's biofeedback program at 28. None of it worked, although I will admit that I was not great about doing my exercises on my own during the Beyond Basics program so this is not intended as a knock on them. I will say, though, that I found EMH to be cleaner and its therapists to be notably more professional and more informed than the ones at BB. I will outwardly and emphatically say that the Mayo Clinic program is a total waste of time and money. Then, in September of 2014, I went to EMH and began working with Mary. I cannot speak highly enough of Mary and EMH - completing a course of treatment there has changed my life. I saw Mary twice weekly from September through December of 2014. We did a combination of biofeedback, internal work, and exercises/stretches in the gym. I was also religious about doing my stretches for 10-15 minutes per day on my own and using a foam roller a couple times per week (I think doing the home exercises is critical to successful treatment). After completing my course of treatment with EMH, my life much more closely resembles the life of a "normal" 30 year old girl. I don't have enough words to express my thanks. I can also honestly say that I enjoyed my sessions with Mary, as weird as that sounds. Mary is the type of person you can say anything to (I asked her some weird and pretty disgusting questions, which she answered honestly, professionally and without judgment) and is extremely skilled and diligent with her work. She really thought about my situation even when I was not in the office, researching questions I had on her own and occasionally e-mailing me articles she thought might be helpful. She also referred me to a nutritionist who put me on the low FODMAP diet, which has also been helpful to me so far (I'm only a week in so take that for what it's worth). I think that anyone suffering from PFD should go straight to EMH - they really know what they're doing and, having sampled almost everything out there, they are unquestionably the best. I have United Healthcare Choice Plus and after I met my deductible the cost was only $45/session, which has been unquestionably worth it for this massive improvement in my quality of life. I feel incredibly grateful and emotional writing this review. I fell in love with EMH physical therapy right when I first talked to them on the phone. I was simply calling to have information about their pelvic floor muscles program and the warmth of Maggie's voice at the reception, her thoughtfulness, willingness to help and presence all along made me feel heard, seen and valued. It didn't stop there. They kept following up with until I had my first appointment and it took me a long time to decide but they stayed loving, present, engaged and patient, always reminding me to give it a try. When I finally did, I met Jasmina Sidberry. I was so anxious the first time but Jasmina is so knowledgeable. With attentiveness to details, incredible ability to follow-up, active listening and ability to sense when I am nervous, she helped me using breath work, visualization and massages cultivate my ability to effectively relax my muscles. Better, she would remind me all along that I am the one in charge, holding the space for me so I can become familiar with the tools and use them myself. When I started feeling more comfortable, she would remind me when facing again tension or tightness: "don't doubt yourself. You know how to effectively relax your muscles. Don't doubt yourself". It took me 2 years and half of sexual pain, nightmares, depression, chronic fatigue and illness, a divorce before finding EMH physical Therapy. It took me 2 months with Jasmina to effectively relax my muscles and understand that my ability to relax is so connected to my overall health and well-being. I feel empowered, at peace, joyful and so confident in my ability to keep taking loving care of myself. Knowing that from that place of connectedness and love, I can always relax is the biggest gift the universe gave me through EMH Physical Therapy and I am forever grateful for the whole team and especially for Jasmina. EMH, the reception staff (Christina) and my PT (Sarah Wendler) were absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately for me, I waited years before finding them and getting the help I needed! I was too embarrassed to even use the term "pelvic floor" let alone admit that I needed help with mine. Too tight pelvic floor muscles were preventing me from engaging in intercourse and within a month of treatment I have been diagnosed as "normal". The amazingly flexible scheduling meant I could have two or three appointments per week and the beyond qualified care I received from Sarah meant that I could see tangible progress every single week. Sarah was friendly yet professional, caring and supportive through the entire process. I felt as though my successes were hers as well. She genuinely cared about my treatment and I never once felt uncomfortable or awkward (which I was quite worried about given the nature of the treatment). The private rooms were clean and comfortable and felt truly like small oasis in the middle of a convenient upper east side location. (I say convenient because it is near the subway. It wasn't convenient for me coming in from Brooklyn but it was totally worth the trek!) I am amazed at the results I was able to achieve with their help and cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, warm, compassion, friendship and most importantly wonderful PT care. I only wish it hadn't taken me years to find them! If you're in a situation where you are debating getting treatment or debating between offices, use my story as an example. Maybe I am a little biased here, but everything about EMH is a pleasure. First, there is Cindy at the front desk, who never fails to greet one with a broad smile and a cheerful word. At other facilities I have used over the years, the receptionists appear to be doing you a favor by even talking to you. Not so with Cindy who has always shown great flexibility when it comes to rescheduling an appointment or even on rare occasions when I've had to cancel out entirely. And then there is Charissa - the real reason I am at EMH. When she moved over from another facility, it seemed only natural that I would follow. Her warmth and skill makes her a pleasure to be with each week as she treats the areas surrounding my two torn rotator cuffs. First, there is the manipulation of my shoulders and neck area to relive the built-up tightness. Then, there are the seemingly simple exercises designed to strengthen the muscles surrounding the tears. She knows not only which will do the most good, but how to motivate me - a total non-athlete - to do them in the most beneficial way.The combination is a winner for me. Wish I could tell you that my treatment is even somewhat unique, but from what I have seen, that's the way everyone is treated at EMH. EMH physical therapy changed my life. After the birth of my daughter, I had awful low back pain, abdominal cramping and urinary incontinence. It was so bad I was having trouble taking care of my child and just felt like such a wreck. A friend of mine told me to see the therapists at EMH, so I gave them a try. Right away the front desk staff was so welcoming and helpful. They contacted my insurance company to find out my benefits and they helped me get an in network exception to get the cost of treatment covered. Then, I met my therapist Kirsten. She was so sweet, professional and empathetic. She didn't rush me even when I was getting emotional telling her about how upset all my symptoms had made me become. I'm still currently in treatment, but its been about 4 weeks and already my life has changed for the better. I'm able to care for my daughter and be the mom I want to be because Kirsten taught me how to get stronger and what exercises where the best to get rid of my pain. EMH Physical Therapy was a huge step in getting me back on my feet after sustaining a dance injury that forced me to stop dancing and that refused to clear up after two years despite multiple rounds of physical therapy. I saw Jen for a couple of months, and in that time, she managed to identify and help treat many facets of my injury that other therapists had failed to help me with. Jen stood out from other physical therapists I have seen in that she was invested in helping me get better as quickly as possible. This urgency and efficiency is something that is crucial in helping patients that have been in pain for a long time, and something that always made me feel that I was in good care at EMH. Jen listened carefully to me and went above and beyond in taking extra time to go over videos of me dancing in order to tailor exercises that would help me accomplish my specific goals. EMH is a fantastic place for physical therapy. My PT in Boston highly recommended this place when I moved to New York, and I'm so glad I decided to listen to her advice and sign up. My PT, Summer, was extremely caring, friendly, and professional. She explained everything in great detail throughout the process (including through the use of muscle diagrams and plastic models), so I always felt in control of my own care and like a full participant in the healing process. From day one, she began teaching me stretches and exercises to do on my own at home, and the EMH facility even has a small but cheerful gym with mats, foam rollers, treadmills, etc so you can learn the exercises and practice them right there with your therapist. The PT rooms are clean and relaxing, and the receptionists were always very helpful in scheduling appointments on short notice, calling with appointment reminders, and helping prepare reciepts for my insurance company. I had severe pelvic pain spasms and a chronic history of UTIs of over 5 years. I had been to countless urologists, pelvic specialists, and been on medications without any relief. I was feeling hopeless until a Physical Therapist friend informed me of Pelvic Physical Therapy as an option. I went to EMH and was welcomed with open arms. Their Doctors of Physical Therapy educated me on ways they could help me and ultimately have the tools to manage my condition independently. I went to EMH for about 2.5 months to help with pelvic floor tension. During the entire time, I saw Jasmina who is absolutely the best! She has amazing bedside manner, a keen insight, and made me feel super comfortable. I progressed a ton in a short amount of time. The office staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and they are willing to negotiate pricing for you. I did have a disappointment, though. I thought that EMH would accept Anthem Blue Cross as insurance, and maybe they do, but unfortunately my specific plan did not cover this treatment and it was a pretty big out-of-pocket. I submitted claims myself, and got a little bit applied to my deductible. I wish the office staff would have submitted these claims for me and that they are clearer about which insurance plans will cover treatment. Overall, despite this, I made a lot of progress and enjoyed myself along the way. Highly recommend! read more

Dr Jasmina Sidberry at EMH Physical Therapy saved my life! When I began my sessions I was in distress. I was using the bathroom multiple times throughout the night. And more than one should throughout the day. I was unable to get a good night's rest. And as a result, I felt excessively tired all the time. The manipulations & exercises Dr Sidberry did with me in the therapy sessions, along with those she gave me to do at home, made a positive difference immediately! Now, I'm able to get uninterrupted sleep throughout the night. Or if I do get up, it's only once, allowing me to still feel rested in the morning. And I'm using the bathroom far less during the day. I had a wonderful experience at EMH. I came here for bio-feedback and PT on my bladder and pelvic floor on the recommendation of my urologist. After years of doing heavy lifting and complications from a long ago hip operation I was experiencing problems related to my bladder. I had both Sarah and Mary as my PTs and both were amazing! They were very knowledgable and compassionate. Overall the staff here is friendly, professional, caring and made me feel completely at ease which was exactly what I needed when dealing with a problem that's (let's face it) a little embarrassing. The office is located a short walk from the 6 line and the private rooms are very clean. After a few months of treatment I feel that my problem has greatly improved and I will definitely be coming back for future treatments with other issues in the future. read more

EMH was the best experience I have had in terms of physical therapy. I have had a few physical therapists over the years and nothing compared to the service and care I received from EMH. Charissa is who treated me and she was AMAZING! She cured me! She was dedicated, thoughtful, caring and concerned...everything you need from a PT. She really wanted to make sure I was healed and got back to my normal way. Her care is what made the difference. Also, the entire office staff is so helpful. I just finished several months of pt with Lauren at EMH Physical Therapy. Not only was Lauren AMAZING and thoroughly professional, she helped me meet a major goal and teach me exercises I could also do on my own to help speed up the process of achieving my goals and continued progress. Have been visiting EMH for treatment of a neck injury for the past few months. Sarah is wonderful--knowledgable, flexible in her approach, extremely capable, and the right mix of personable and professional. She explains what she is doing, and why it will be helpful, in order to allow you to create a regimen to use on your own. The other therapists there also demonstrate great, helpful personalities and treatment styles. Cindy is an extremely accommodating, wonderful person to have as their liaison with patients, insurance companies, and the like-- she makes people feel welcome, helps to clarify planning, and creates a great environment. EMH changed my life! I was in pretty bad shape, not to mention in total despair, by January, 2015. Following my first session with Sarah, I was immediately put at ease and hope sprang anew. From the very first meeting, I was told exactly what to expect, set goals and prepared an additional game plan for my recovery. After giving birth I started to experience bad pelvic pain. The experience of going to a PT for pelvic pain can be quite weird. The entire staff at EMP PT made me feel beyond comfortable and actually made the experience enjoyable. Cindy is a pleasure to deal with and helps you with all your insurance needs. My son, who is a High School baseball pitcher, was referred to EMH by his orthopedist due to lower back pain which was affecting his ability to pitch. I cannot praise Kirsten Hober of EMH enough for how she helped my son.
