The Emerson Resort and Spa was a fabulous luxury for my husband and myself this summer. We became friendly with the staff and loved the cafe near the shops. Enjoy the spa and deck, sauna and steam room with girlfriends. The dog friendly aspect was a plus for us and there is a very nice dog run and playground for kids, as well as a nice pool. Enjoy the Esopus running behind the Emerson and go to Catamount on Tuesdays for fun entertainment. read more

Nice facility, enjoyable time at the spa. However, in the Black Bear building definitely request the second floor. We were on the first floor and unfortunately subjected to the heavy footsteps of the people above. We could even hear their conversations. It's not even like they were being loud, just thin walls/low ceilings read more

Considering all the restrictions during these Covid days the staff at the Emerson go above and beyond in your enjoyment of the time you spend at the resort in this beautiful scenery - the place is immaculate - the beds are extremely comfortable - the food is excellent - the staff is as friendly and nice as could be - I hope to go back again! read more

My husband and I stayed at Emerson Resort & Spa for two nights in Aug 2017. The hotel was nice, clean and recently renovated. The restaurant and spa were both attached to the main building and were terrific. Reception gave us a list of local hiking spots and provided us with recommendations when we asked. I'd love to go there again. I bet it is even more beautiful during the fall foliage season. read more

My wife and I went here for a massage and a weekend stay, and I was pretty impressed. They have an Asian influence decor that relaxes you indefinitely. I was pleased to find out they were pet friendly although I had a friend already taking care of my dog while we were gone so it didn't really help much. Still the service was impeccable and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! They have these package deals also if you're a skier. http://www.emersonresort.com/topics/packages/ I went in the summer so i wasn't able to go skiing but there's always time to go back! read more

I came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and we had a blast. First off the room was amazing! It was beautifully decorated and spacious. The bed and the fireplace definitely set the romantic mood. We had a wonderful time there. We had a massage at the spa and it was one of the best massages that I've ever had. Overall the stay was a little pricey but I think that is because it was a last minute trip. I definitely look forward to returning there in the near future. read more

Staying at the Emerson Inn for our anniversary with our dogs. Could not be more perfect. The property looks like a painting---- inside and out. Every detail is designed with thought and creativity. We will definitely be back. Our room is beautiful and so comfortable; the staff is warm, friendly and very helpful. A really special place. Rhonda A read more

TERRIBLE! STAY AWAY! WE WERE MADE VERY SICK! I went to dinner with my wife this Valentine's Day. Both of us are now very sick and we had terrible service adding insult to injury. The Emerson was supposed to be a premium choice for the Catskill sky region but we would have been better off going to Applebee's. At least at a corporate chain employees are trained. We were sat and did not receive bread or water. The host had to take an order from another table that had been sat way before us because the waitress completely skipped them. Eventually we saw our waitress and I told her I have a food allergy, not something to take lightly. She gave the impression she cared and I asked her which items on the menu I could safely eat. After checking with the kitchen for 15 minutes she returned and told me my single options. However she told me not to eat my vegetable side dish as it would make me ill but the potatoes and steak would be ok to eat. I asked if I could get a substitute, as it wasn't offered. She said yes and listed a couple choices. After making the only choice I could make for a 4 course meal I waited for 30 minutes for my shrimp cocktail. I placed the shells of the 4 shrimp in my bread plate, it wasn't being used for bread so why not. My wife and I stared at those shells for the next hour and a half, they were never cleared. It was gross. The cocktail sauce was Heinz ketchup and some horseradish, obviously worth the high price tag. My wife had the spring rolls. They were horrible; oil from the fryer was dripping down her arm with every bite. The mixed green salad came out 30 minutes after we were done with our first course. It was a very small side salad with a ton of vinegar. We were starving (no bread, bad rolls, 4 shrimp and long waits) so we muscled down the vinegar drenched leaves until our tongues were pickled. Next we received our entrees. My wife had the Lobster Pappardelle in cream pesto sauce (cream in pesto?) which looked like a plate of vomit and I had a beef wellington with whipped potatoes and carrots. My beef wellington was reduced to a hot pocket, not in size but the fact the entire steak was wrapped up in dough like a giant slimy ravioli. The whipped potatoes were a dry lifeless brick and low and behold the carrots were covered in garlic. Garlic is what my food allergy is... I didn't look before I bit into a carrot, instantly tasted a ton of garlic and spit it into my napkin. I then saw that the carrots were swimming in garlic. I called over the waitress and told her about the carrots. She asked if I'd be ok and I responded no. But, because I caught it I wouldn't have to go to the doctor, I would just be very sick. She took my whole plate into the back to confirm with the chef that it was indeed garlic. So now I'm left with no food. All trained wait staff know that the rest of the meal should be moved to the bread plate so the customer isn't too inconvenienced by a mistake. I wait quite a while before the confused waitress comes out to say she was once again sorry and would give me steamed carrots instead. I had to request my steak and potatoes back, a fresh napkin, for her to take away my soiled napkin but I forgot to mention the stinking shrimp shells. Eventually my cold food comes out. I think I tasted garlic in the stuffing of the Wellington but I trusted that the staff wouldn't lie to me. I am about a 1/3 of the way through the steak when my fried carrots come out. I have two bites and can't stomach anymore of the terrible meal that was set at $45. The waitress asks if we wanted anything more and I replied we wanted a water refill finally. I requested coffees and expected them to come out with our desert. The desert never came and our coffees were finished. The waitress asks if we wanted anything else, perhaps our deserts to go. At that point I was beaten. I couldn't complain anymore. The food was awful, the service was awful, and I spent the last two hours of my Valentine's Day dealing with it. So I agreed to take my dessert to go. The host was busy playing on his laptop so I had to go into the coat check room and get our coats. My wife and I became very ill on the drive home. I am certain there was garlic in the Wellington. I have been in the bathroom all night and my wife chugged Pepto and is now trying to sleep it off. The Emerson does not have quality control. The staff is apathetic. The blatant disregard for the safety of their customers is disgusting. The food wouldn't be fit to serve at a Ruby Tuesdays. There is no reason to ever go. If you care about the safety of your loved ones and your wallets you will stay away. read more

I have been meaning to write this review about our stay last summer. The good: great rooms and we were financially compensated for our many issues. The rest: my husband booked this adult only resort for the weekend after I finished a certification exam for work that required six months of intense study. We get to our room and I attempted to take an afternoon nap prior to dinner. However, could not nod off as there was someone running back and forth upstairs for at least 30 minutes. I called front desk and inquired if a child was upstairs, was told no they are adult only. The noises did not stop. I called again and asked if we could be moved. Was told no rooms available, but they would place a call to upstairs guest. An hour later still non stop tapping of feet in room above. I then went out and spoke to the manager who came in on her day off because the issue. Low and behold there was a child and the adult refused to move to their family friendly cabins. However, guess what mysteriously appeared? Another room!! We moved to new room and when we came back from dinner there was wine and an apology awaiting us. That was kind and we were happy it all ended well. Unfortunately, disturbance of another kind came at 1 in the morning when we were awoken by someone trying to enter our room. Thankfully, the chain was on. Person left and our phone rang. The front desk asked what we were doing in that room. Upon checkout, I was about to inform the front desk clerk about what happened when the phone rang. She answered phone and continued with a several minute convo when I walked away and just left establishment. Great rooms, but front staff needs revamped. read more

We usually love the Spa for massages and were excited to check it out after the renovation. We couldn't get a massage reservation so we decided to do the luxury pedicure for $65. The room was lovely and the girls who did our pedicures were very friendly & personable. But I expected A LOT more for the price. It felt like a normal pedicure with the addition of the bootie - which WAS lovely. The massage was quick and was in no way "deep pressure point" like the description says - I get a better one from my $25 pedi place. The pedicure simply did not match the description nor the cost. A week later my toes are already chipping. It's a bummer, because I love the location and feel of this place. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about the Emerson. My husband and I got married there and all of our guests loved the rooms, scenery and the staff. We had such a wonderful experience with them as our wedding venue. Marci is the wedding coordinator and she is a dream to work with. Anything we wanted to do was a yes and Marci and her staff helped with everything and put up with all my crazy decorations and emails. Greg who runs the Woodnotes grill has a flower farm and supplied amazing wildflowers for our big day. Sara in the spa did a great job with my hair. Everything was great and the Emerson makes it so easy because they have so much in house. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better place to get married and I would highly recommend the Emerson for a wedding or a romantic weekend away. read more

The Emerson "Resort" keeps missing the mark. I am a local and tried some of the new spa services: PEDICURE - two stars (one for the massage chair--yum) because the pedicurist could not clip a straight line. It's also impossible to get the polish off by myself, which I was not informed about. FACIAL - one star. I paid almost $200 (with the "mandatory" tip that Emerson adds) for the Elemis Biotec facial and actually looked older afterward. Another friend told me the same thing happened to her in the fall. My aestetician did not seem very skilled or intelligent. Not that you have to be a rocket scientist, but when I asked her to explain the technology of Elemis she said "it's just, like, light." MASSAGE - one star. My massage was like someone's first week in massage school. Tepid and tentative. No communication. Never asked about the pressure (which was barely there). if Emerson aspires to be a sophisticated resort, they need to hire sophisticated employees who know how to communiticate, be intuitive and creative, and think on their feet. Or, they can simply drop the ruse that this is a "resort" and just present themselves as a country inn run by country people. There's nothing wrong with kind simplicity. Just don't charge us city prices and expect us to be fooled by the marble floors and whatnot. read more

We have stayed at Emerson a few times and always have had a great experience. Our beautiful rooms with fireplace and balcony had a great view of the river and the mountains- and felt cozy and clean. My wife visited the spa and she was very pleased with their services and the atmosphere. It has a nice gym with all the equipment you need. In less than a half hour I am at the Hunter mountain and other ski areas. Best of all - the staff have been more than helpful and friendly. Only one and a half hours away from White Plains it is a quick get away for relaxation and outdoor activities. Even at full capacity it feels quiet. We will be coming back here again! read more

3.25 stars. First and foremost, this is actually quite the venue to hold a wedding. They have a nice gazebo which serves as the perfect altar for a rustic, relaxed wedding. I will also say that the beer and finger food selection (ours included pierogies, dumplings, shrimp, mussels, and green chile enchiladas, among other items) was impressive, but I'm not sure if that was coordinated by the hotel or by the couple. Based on the other food experiences (nothing awful, but rather bland and less exotic), my guess is that it was the latter. I didn't stay in the super fancy rooms, but the lodge was fine. For approximately $210.00/night, it can quite easily hold a family of four. I would have preferred that the TVs carried HBO, but this is a rustic hotel so I could work with that. I also learned that apparently only my room had a problem with flies, but again, it's rustic and you are staying in a "lodge". I'm not sure whether the Emerson has a smoking policy, but my room had a light, musty odor to it that I assume came from smoke (it wasn't anything bad enough to complain about to the staff). I didn't have any of the "brown water" issues that others have mentioned; from my observation, the water was clean. In any event, these trivial things aren't going to bother me too much, especially when the room was massive and plays well with the overall rustic theme of the property. I didn't try out the spa treatments, but it was very clear from the decidedly Hindu exterior that their spa rooms focus on relaxation and serenity. A few friends tried the rooms and had a pleasant experience. The gym is nice enough, and you can cover the basics in there with ease. They had a large clearing where we had a bonfire, and that was really nice as well. The downsides were 1) learning that the hiking trails weren't adjacent to the hotel (which isn't really that big of an issue), 2) very limited cell phone and Internet service (a pretty major problem for those of us who needed to field work calls, etc. while we were staying at the hotel), 3) extraordinarily limited breakfast and lunch options (which shouldn't happen at this price point) and 4) a rather unfortunate woman at their breakfast restaurant, the Phoenix, who was clearly stressed out by our party and who couldn't figure out how to split checks for the life of her (bad customer service is never acceptable at any price point). I chalk that up to not having to split checks on a routine basis, but her attitude from the outset was asinine (we needed to leave to check out so we wouldn't miss a bus back to NYC, and her actual words were "I'll get to it" - not okay) and after she messed it up a second time, she claimed that I didn't tell her how to split the check appropriately. Granted, I was furious with her, but her ineptitude very nearly cost me a grand in travel fees had I missed that bus (and it ended up being fairly close). It's too bad because the rest of the people that worked there were rather pleasant, but she really left a bad impression for me towards the hotel after what was an otherwise well-handled wedding. From the perspective of having a wedding here, it's a pretty good location so long as your definition of comfort is serenity as opposed to luxury. In terms of what could be better, I would second what Sara D. described. read more

This place was fantastic. The room was beautiful and immaculate. The facility is full of great things to do. They have an indoor market, a cafe, a restaurant, the world's largest kaleidoscope (even though the ones in the store are even more fun). The people were helpful and kind. Woodstock is close by and we had a lot of fun shopping, eating, and looking at a lot of great art. The gallery shows we saw there gave Manhattan a major run for its money. Nothing bad to say. Great stay. Great staff. Great food. read more

They really should bring back oranges and fruit in the spa. Hopefully organic fruit if possible. I'm not sure why they would take away the fruit, whoever runs this place has no idea about anything at all, no one wants to pack granola bars, people want to relax. Have a slot for quarters or money, anything, if they don't want to give out fruit for free. We were in shock the fruit was gone! And starving. Really sad to loose the fruit. It MADE that spa great. I hope they bring the oranges back. I can't leave a spa to go eat nor do I want the hassle of packing food! read more

This is a nice place with a good vibe, but seems to be declining somewhat in quality of service. I was there a few years ago and had a much nicer experience. The rooms are great, and the spa is pretty nice, but still ordinary. My massage was OK, but nothing really special. The rooms are very nice and spacious, but the room was either really cold or really hot. The staff just suggested turning the gas fireplace on and off during the night. OK, I could do that, but when I go to a spa I want to relax and not have to worry about that in the middle of the night. Also, housekeeping services could be more attentive. Mini-bars of soap should not be rationed, right? Staff is OK and all very pleasant, but not as polished as it seems they once were. Maybe I was there on an off-weekend? Overall, it seems to be resting on its laurels and its old reputation as a luxury destination. Someone needs to tell them that it is time to wake up and remember that they are in a service business. Oh, and by the way, with one exception, don't bother with the on-location restaurant, the Phoenix. While the food was pretty good, and it is very convenient as it is on premises, the staff really got on my nerves. I don't need someone to ask me every 3 minutes if everything is OK. I don't need my plates cleared as soon as I take a break from eating and want to talk to my dining companion. And the way one of the waitresses was slinging the silverware as she restocked the service station (all the way across the room from my table) and started setting tables for the next meal service, well let's just say that she made more noise than one would expect on a prison chow line. At one point I thought she was wrestling the spoons into submission. I actually asked our waitress, who was nice but over-attentive, to ask her colleague to stop for the 10 minutes we were going to be remaining in the restaurant, but she said she couldn't really help. I had to go over and ask the woman to take a break so my friend and I could eat without all the clatter, which was annoying the other patrons as well. And what is the one exception? The onion soup. Actually, it was so good it almost made up for the other deficiencies of the restaurant. Made with five different kinds of onions, it was not "nuclear fusion" hot when it arrived, which was great, and it was a perfect portion and perfectly seasoned as a starter, along with delicious, but soggy, truffle and parmesan fries. However, on balance you are much better off going to one of the nice local restaurants in Woodstock or even in Kingston or Rhinebeck. Unless your car breaks down, you can skip the Phoenix. Hopefully, someone will read this, realize that they need to get their act together, and it will rise again. read more

The Woodnotes restaurant and bar at the Emerson is exceptional. The setting is beautiful, and in addition to the great meals in the restaurant, we absolutely love the bar with great craft beers and reasonably priced pub menu, especially during happy hour. We've been so impressed by how Jonas keeps everything running smoothly, and whether your server is James, Tori or Rocco, they all make sure every guest is 100% happy. I'm only giving this four stars because it was my first spa experience so I have nothing to compare it to, otherwise I would give it five. The environment was very clean and relaxing. The massage therapist who worked on me was super friendly and gentle, but firm enough to make a slight dent in the severe muscle knots in my back and neck. The massage beds are absolutely delightful, and they cover you with a comfortable blanket so you feel neither exposed nor cold when getting a massage. There's a lovely hot tub, dry hot sauna and steam sauna too. Showers have pumps for soap, shampoo and conditioner. They even provide a blow dryer and mouthwash pump! It was a really excellent first spa experience for me and I will definitely consider making it a more frequent occurrence. read more

Spent a glorious birthday weekend with a friend. The room, we stayed in the main house, was beautiful! Gas fireplace, facing a wonderful running creek and the forest. Luxurious beds and plenty of sitting areas. We had spa services, a pedicure and a massage. Both services were delightful! Everyone in the hotel was so nice and accommodating. Very nice people without exception. Spent our day exploring Woodstock,NY which was close by. Started our day with breakfast in a cozy place that served a delicious breakfast. In the evenings we went into another small town for dinners, Phoenicia, NY to "The Phoenician " and " Tavern 214" both of them were outrageously good! The food and the presentation of it remarkable. The chefs were more than 1st rate. The staff so very nice and friendly. There is a great restaurant in the Emerson, but unfortunately time ran out, but rest assured I shall return. The Emerson seems to be having serious management problems. Spa treatments were incompetent--I'm talking hot stones crashing on the ground bad. Seriously, I think that at least one of the the spa staff I encountered was not licensed, all three were phoning it in. The layout of the spa didn't make any sense--there was no thought behind the chairs, no place to actually relax. Steam room in the ladies' dressing room was out of order. Nobody was ever cleaning anything up--I must have walked by the same plastic cups and tea cups and apple cores fifty times this weekend. The quality of food and service in the Phoenix restaurant was terrible. The chef's salad had a disgusting amount of dressing on it. The music was obviously for the staff, not for dining. One minute waitstaff was overly solicitous, the next they were engaging in loud horseplay in the middle of the dining room completely oblivious to guests. Nobody really wanted to help or do the service thing. Asking for things always yielded a "no," or a "sorry we don't have/do that." There were magazines from 2009 everywhere. We checked in to our room and had to walk back and get our room keys. There just seemed to be no leadership. Staff wandered around in shabby shoes, dirty uniforms and messy hair just kinda doing whatever, and things kinda got done eventually. Least restful spa experience ever. read more

The hotel room was an amazing stay! It was warm and cozy, especially the heating vent in the bathroom. The beds were beyond luxurious and it felt as if you were sleeping on a thousand clouds. The breeze that drifts through the windows make you feel like you are camping on top of a mountain. After a long day it's nice to be able to go over to the fire pit outside which allows for chit chat between fellow guests. The warm fire and stars in the clear sky will warm your hearts just like the heated pool. A fresh clean pool with beautiful landscape around to make you feel relax and refreshed. Be sure to visit the worlds largest kaleidoscope in the gift shop. The different kaleidoscopes will open your eyes to a new world! Not to mention the wonderful foods they had for sale. The baked goods were tasty and tasted just like grammies fresh baked cookies. The stay was luxurious and will definitely come back! -Cathy M Room: 106 Date: July 1-2 read more

Hello Everybody, I am going to make this as nice as I possibly can. I was an employee at the Emerson Resort and Spa, yes the place may paint a pretty picture on the outside, but only if you knew what happened behind the scenes. Only reason I am writing this review is for the reason that, after my termination I was informed that my personal business is being talked about by supervisor and other employees, which I feel should not be allowed, and my personal business with the Emerson should only be between me and the management team. Not every other employee for the fact, it has nothing to do with their work duties. But, let me start off by saying, they absolutely do NOT know how to treat their employees. They're rude, disrespectful and cold hearted. They did NOTHING but treat us as if we were slaves. I was told multiple times I was unable to take a BREAK unless my rooms were done, mind you. I am anemic which they had known about the DAY I STARTED, which means I had to eat! The beginning of my employment they cared, of course. But after time went by, they started to not care if not only me, but other employees did not eat during an 8 hour shift, sometimes a little more than 8 hours. They had us using FOAM BLEACH in bathrooms without the proper ventilation which thank god a former co-worker wrote an e-mail to OSHA about it, The one receptionist that works at the front desk under the name of Dawn. Treated everybody like they were nothing, even the guest. she was nothing but nasty, but did that go noticed? no it did not it got brushed under the carpet as if it wasn't even happening. I remember one day that I was sitting there dripping in sweat pale as a ghost throwing up everywhere asking to go home and I was told to go sit in my car and sleep it off they don't care about how their employees feel they don't care if their employees are sick they will make you work no matter what. one morning I woke up with a fever of 101.5 I texted my supervisor Laura And told her that I was not going to be able to make it to work today because I was sick her response and I quote was push through it you need to come in today and then I was informed that she was sitting at the front desk telling the receptionist she's going to come in I'm gonna make her come in.. I really thought working at the Emerson was going to be a good experience for me but not gonna lie it was the worst experience for me the people were nothing but rude unprofessional disrespectful. And did not care about nobody but themselves at the workplace everyone should be a team but not at the Emerson it was every man for themselves. There were multiple times where we would go without supplies and we would inform either front desk, our supervisor laundry or anybody in management do you think they cared? Nope they sure didn't but us the housekeepers would get in trouble when the rooms weren't stocked properly and we were missing supplies. I remember one night I got called to go to a different building to help The supervisor because the housekeeper that was assigned to that building did not do her duties the right way the supervisor was looking at the bed and asked me and another coworker what we thought about the bed it all came to conclusion that the bed was slept in as in the housekeeper never changed the sheets on the bed. But also do you think anything was said about that from my understanding and listening around the inn no nothing was said to that so housekeeper about her not changing the sheets on a new bed instead it was brushed under the carpet. One day the supervisor Laura and a member of the front desk named Bihn and help me by servicing a room and then later on I get to the front desk and I am told that room 207 was not given snacks or water which is a requirement for us housekeepers to do at a stay over and it's simply blows my mind that the supervisor of all people did not do the job the right way but if us housekeepers didn't do that we would've gotten in trouble but I guess since she's The supervisor that's OK because she could just simply blame us housekeepers I am not writing this review because I'm mad I was fired I won't lie Im glad based on how many times that place had me hysterically cry because of how they treated me they treated me as if I was lower than dirt..I really hope the right person sees this review and something is done I was wrongfully terminated by the Emerson I wasn't given a real good reason to why they terminated me they told me it had to do with complaints but I have not been told about this so called complaints nor was I written up about them. what made me write this review is because they told me I was fired for complaints but I was informed tonight that the story has changed so I really just want to get to the bottom of why I was terminated and I want the truth. read more

We are a local business who thought The Emerson Inn would be a great place for us to accommodate our visitors. After making a reservation ahead of time, the customer got sick and couldn't make it. We asked The Emerson to credit our room toward our next visitor. They refused at first, then requested a doctor's note! Can you believe that? And we actually got one for them, but they gave us a hard time because it was hard to read the copy. Can you imagine having to ask a customer for a doctor's note!? After numerous calls and going back in forth, they ended up charging us $30 for cancellation. We are business owners, and completely appalled by this treatment. They've got our $30, and lost our business. Really smart. Bye, bye Emerson, we are off to Diamond Mills in Saugerties. Hopefully they know how to appreciate their customers. read more

The spa, hotel room, and service are superb. Thanks Rebecca for setting up the flowers so quickly, awesome bouquet for the local florist in Boiceville. Laura was very helpful in setting up the room reservation. The Imperial suite is a very nice room, luxurious. The food at the Catamount was not so impressive. I like comfort food, but the fish of the fish and chips looked and tasted like frozen fish that one throws in the oven, but greasier.
