I don't know what it is- but my cats never seem to get sick during my normal vet's hours. No- they choose Sundays, holidays and late at night to come to me with their various ailments leaving me in a quandary as to whether it can wait or if it requires immediate care. Well, when it's the latter- I am happy that Emergency Veterinary Service is open. I have used them 4 times and they are always empathetic, helpful and efficient. While it costs more than your normal vet ($95 emergency flat fee to start and it goes up from there) and they don't take appointments so you may be there a while if a more urgent case comes in, these issues seem small when your four legged friend is looking up at you with those eyes that are trying to tell you that something is wrong. They are a full service vet covering all hospital services, animal surgery and even hospitalization if your pet needs it. I found this place years ago as both my regular vet and the Humane Society that I volunteer at recommend it. They do ask that you call before you go, if you can, so that they know you are coming and can help prioritize the level of emergencies that are inbound. While I hope you and your pet never need this place- it's comforting to know that our four legged friends can get quality care no matter when they get sick. And for this animal lover- that alone is worth the price. read more

Dr. Rick Otto and Jennifer provided the most compassionate care to my beloved Stella who had congestive heart failure. His medical treatment gave me one more day and night with her before they both helped her make her final journey. Services were compassionate, empathetic and sympathetic. I would highly recommend Dr. Otto and Jennifer. While losing my Stella this morning was unbelievably hard and heart wrenching, they made the process smooth and Stella was comfortable. Everything being done was explained to me and I was comfortable with returning to them today for Stella's final journey after my initial visit with them on Friday, July 13th. I hope to never have to use emergency services again because having to rush a pet to emergency is terrifying, but if I ever do need emergency services aI would DEFINITELY return to this clinic to see Dr. Otto. read more

I decided to go to EVS after waiting over 2 hours in Aurora and told it would be another 4 hour wait. When I called Emergency Veterinary Services the wait was an hour. When we arrived at 11:30 pm (note was at Aurora from 8:30pm to 11pm) my pet was seen in less than 30 minutes. The staff absolutely exceptional. I was given an idea of pricing ahead of time. The attending vet was amazing. Everything was explained in detail. What a wonderful experience. Should you have a pet emergency they are the place to go. I drove 24 miles to get to this location and it was well worth the drive. I am beyond grateful for this group of professionals. read more

My dog was cared for here but ultimately passed away. Before he was to be cremated, we requested a clay paw print from him, a service which this facility offers. Several weeks went by with no word on the print. After a few calls trying to find out where the paw print was, we were told he was cremated prior to them making the clay paw print. They were very apologetic and refunded the cost of the print and the cost of cremation. However, this was a monumental failure on their part. A month later and we feel like we're grieving for our dog all over again. The $100 refund does nothing to ease the pain of not having that piece of him we were expecting. read more

This was the only ER vet that could see our dog on a Saturday night. We live on the south end of Plainfield. We called Plainfield Animal ER Hospital and they were at capacity and could not take any more patients. So we called VNA in Aurora but they were at capacity too and could not accept anymore patients. No vets were open. We found Emergency Veterinary Services open. We called and to our surprise they could see us had a pending 2 hour wait. They recommended we register ahead of coming in and call when we got there. Our dog is diabetic so they took her in ASAP. Sadly within a hour we were informed our doggie wasn't going to make it. They called us inside and prepared a room for us to be with our precious girl Molly. I am sad to have lost my girl but thankful for the prompt ER care they provided. We said goodbye to our precious girl. We left with her paw print molded in a case with one side for a picture. I would recommend this ER facility as they took action based on the urgency for our dog to be seen. It was worth the drive from our home because there were no other facilities that could see our girl. Rest easy precious Molly. PLEASE READ!!! First of all, be careful with "Doctor" Christen Bolotov. If she is the 'doctor' in charge, please consider taking your loving pet to another clinic. If you doctor is Dr. Smith, then you are in good hands. Here's my experience: My sister took her cat to this clinic for an emergency at midnight. She was previously diagnosed with cancer so we knew she was in a very delicate health state. Dr. Smith was able to take care of my sister's cat and determined that she was not recovering from this crisis - and that we should consider the most difficult decision you can ever make for your pet, euthanasia. I won't get very detailed but this was clearly a very difficult decision to make. We were told nothing could be done at this point and that she was suffering and suffocating more and more every minute. Finally, the decision was made and we would go ahead with putting her down so she could no longer suffer. However this changed when they brought her back to spend some last moments with her. She didn't seem as sick and suffering as we were told, so my sister was very hesitant about continuing with the euthanasia. We requested more time and Dr. Smith was very kind to tell us we could take as long as we needed. When Dr. Smith left the clinic we were then taken care of by Christien Bolotov, and things immediately changed for the worst. She came with the syringes all ready to go and with a very aggressive, unfriendly and unsympathetic attitude towards us. She even slammed the door when we asked to give us more time. At some point she asked us "have you ever done this before?" with a very demanding tone. My sister was determined that if euthanasia was really the only option left for her cat, she wouldn't let Christen Bolotov be the one to perform it, so we ended up leaving and took my sister's cat to another clinic. She was checked out and stabilized right away. They took new x-rays and performed some tests to see what were the best options available. Euthanasia was NOT one of them. Here's the thing, when you go to an emergency vet like this you are already going through a very difficult time. You want your pet to be saved, not euthanized. However, when this is the last (and sometimes best) option for your pet's life, you want compassionate and professional doctors to take care of it. Christen Bolotov is clearly not a professional, compassionate nor friendly person. She is very difficult, she is extremely unprofessional and we would never let her touch our pets never again. If you are wondering, my sister's cat is doing perfectly fine as of now. We know she is still very fragile and she could go anytime, but only when the time is right. We feel obligated to let other people know about this situation. We don't think the clinic is a bad place at all. Dr. Smith and a very kind technician (Chris) were extremely nice and professional with us. Our advice is BE CAREFUL with Christen Bolotov and don't trust her!!! read more

I can not speak for all staff at the clinic, but Tara (that works at night) is probably the most rude person to have to deal with when your pet is passing. COVID-19 or not, she has no compassion or people skills. If she treats humans like garbage to their face, can you imagine what she does to our beloved animals behind our backs? Please be defensive when dealing with her, she is not a nice person. She put my dogs ashes on the floor, would she do that to a family members, or better yet, be happy when someone does that to her? We have been to countless vets because our older dog had horrible allergies, so we have experience with what to look for. We scheduled a spay with Amy and everything went flawlessly. I just wanted to say that my wife and I are very disappointed in the care Emergency Veterinary Services, LTD. Gave to our beautiful Golden Retriever from 02/20/21 to 02/22/21. We brought him there hoping that he would get the care that he needed. We found out by your report that he could not get up to go to the bathroom for hours yet you gave us no report on what was wrong except take him someplace else. Your report says that he could not get up by himself, seems like you people just left him in his cage and just kept giving him saline for hours on end. When I talked to a doctor on Sunday, I was told he was up and wagging his tail, this could not have been correct. He walked into your hospital, but had to be cared out. Let me tell you that when I got him home, he got up off the rear seat by himself and walked up the stairs and into the house. Not knowing that he had not peed in hours, I let him go into the house where he laid down and peed on his bed, something he never did before. Had I'd know what he went through; I would have lead him to the yard area where he could have been able to relieve himself. Couldn't you people have helped him get up and go outside? For all the money you charged us I would think you could have helped him with that? After reading up on Golden Retrievers we think that he was suffering from Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis (SAS) which is the most common congenital heart disease in Golden Retrievers. If you add this diagnosis to him, it all makes sense. The way he was panting, the way he had a hard time getting up and walking. All the test and meds you gave him did nothing to help and all the tests really showed nothing that was making him that sick. He was suffering from heart disease and no one helped him with that. The sad end came on 02/24/21 at 8:45am as his mom and I were helped him get up to go outside to pee, which he did and he looked so happy. As he turned to go back home, he looked at his mom, gave her that beautiful smile of his and dropped dead as we held him of a heart attack. It was quick and I guess the best thing for him and us as he decided it was time to go and we did not have to make that decision for him. He passed in his back yard where he spent 11 happy years with brother Denero, who passed last year. I guess that nothing would have helped him survive, but it would have been great if someone would have tried. In the future we will look for another place to go in an Emergency. read more

I thought my pup ate some cherries so I decided to go to an emergency hospital. I called one and waited without any updates for 40 minutes, so I called and was told it could be 2-4 hours. Called Emergency Veterinary Services and got in shortly after I registered. Benny was taken in and was taken care of quickly. The doctor called and gave me the status. We've used this location in the past for our old dog a few times so was well aware of their compassion and great work. I understand with covid going on everything is hectic. However, my 6 y/o dog had torn something in his leg jumping off the bed last night and was trying to get in asap. Remembering I've used this location I went to their website to see what their guidelines were. I used their online registration prior to leaving and arrived at 630 this morning. Their website literally states "CALL OR COME IN." Figuring I had already registered and arrived plenty time before they close for the day, I thought there wouldn't be an issue. All she asks is "but did you call?" I replied, no I completed the online registration. And she again says "okay but did you call before coming?" Can't get clear story on managing care. Discharged our dog next morning with no discharge instructions with IV still in his arm, no transfer of records to another care provider. We called our primary vet and they can't get in contact with anyone at Lisle because Lisle is closed. Left us running around trying to find care for our 13 year old dog who can't use his back legs. read more

Went there around 7pm on Tuesday night on a referral from the Animal Poison control. Even called ahead and made sure we were going to the correct place for a drug overdose. Our dog got into a bottle of 30 pills meant for another dog. The Poison control gave us a case number and said to go to the emergency vet due to the large consumption of a stimulant medicine. After checking in, we waited at least 1 1/2 hours without them looking at our dog or taking his vitals. Poison Control was worried he would have a heart attack. They finally came and got him and kept him inside for another 1 1/2 hours. They brought me in and said they couldn't treat him....even though they knew his issue before we even arrived there. They wanted us to go to a hospital in Buffalo Grove. We headed there in fear for our dog and Buffalo Grove couldn't take us with out the referral of Lisle. We had to call Lisle several times to make that happen. Overall very disappointing visit. Thank god our dog wasn't in cardiac arrest. I know they are understaffed, as most businesses are. I think they should take all dogs vitals when they arrive to see who is critical and who can wait. We were lucky that he did make a full recovery but he could have died in our car waiting! read more

We brought my 14 year old dog in here Sunday night. I was really upset because I've had her for 12 years, so I knew something was seriously wrong. They ran tests and found some kind of mass in her stomach area. The doctor was kind and thorough in explaining the x-rays, but suggested an ultrasound for a diagnosis confirmation. They did give us the X-rays on the CD so we could bring it to our vet. When I brought her in the following day to my vet, the vet there did say she agreed with what the vet said here. They were pretty quick at getting us in and out. All in all, it was about $400 for x-rays and the emergency visit. read more

My 11 month old Golden Retriever became seriously ill after eating wild mushrooms which I thought I'd kept him away from. Please note: I work at an animal hospital in Chicago. My experience at Emergency Vet Services was many months ago, but I was so disturbed and angered by my visit that it's taken me this long to write a coherent review. My mother and I took her dog to Emergency Vet after we thought she may have ingested a Bait Block (i.e. small critter poison), but we weren't sure. We called ahead to notify that we were coming, but when we arrived, we were not addressed by the front desk attendant. She was speaking with another client and I had to interrupt their conversation to remind the receptionist that our pet may be having an emergency. She was annoyed and told us to call Poison Control from their lobby, while our dog was still waiting! Unbelievable! While our dog was in the back to induce vomiting, Dr. Bolotov came and spoke with us. She told us that there was no Bait Block in the vomitus. When I asked if this meant she probably didn't ingest it, Dr. Bolotov told us that there's no way to be sure and it may still be in her stomach. She told us there's nothing she can do for our dog if she did ingest the Bait Block, and that she would die within 24 hours from violent seizures. She advised us to hospitalize our pet so they can test her blood in several hours and know whether or not she was going to die. Her estimate is that it would cost over $2000. We opted to bring our pet home, because what pet wants their last day to be spent alone at the vet? When we asked what we should do if she has a seizure, Dr. Bolotov looked us right in the eyes and said "Bring her back to me, because I can end her." These were her exact words and I am sure. She spoke about euthanizing our beloved pet as "ending her". She scolded us for using Bait Blocks in our yard and told us we'll have to learn the hard way to never use them again. She said there is not one single pet that has survived a Bait Block ingestion. I was fully sobbing at this point and she continued to scold us for another 5 minutes about Bait Blocks and very graphically told us how they result in a pet's death. I have never in my life encountered a veterinarian that was so cold and callous in (what could have been) an end-of-life situation. I work at an animal hospital and this would be wholly unacceptable at our practice, resulting in termination of the veterinarian (or to use a familiar phrase, "ending her"?). Take your pet elsewhere. Drive all the way to MedVet/Premier in Chicago or VSC in Buffalo Grove. You and your pet will be better off anywhere else. (For those wondering, my mother's dog is perfectly fine and happily living her life.) read more

Once again, EVS has taken amazing care of my sick puppy in the middle of the night. All my animals must have an agreement with each other that they only get sick on nights and weekends! My little "moodle" decided he didn't want to stop vomiting and it got to the point he could barely walk due to dehydration. They took him back immediately and gave him fluids and anti nausea meds til he could at least stand on his own. Lab work came back and basically he had puppy food poisoning. Not surprising, considering how much weird food the squirrels drop in my yard on a daily basis. My little Bruno is all better. He must realize how good Dr Smith is because when we went back he was thrilled to see her. I will keep using EVS as both an emergency and regular vet as long as I'm living here. For you and your furry friends' sakes, I hope you don't need this place. But if you do, you're in good hands. We dog-sat for my in-laws for over a week recently while they went on vacation. His second night with us, we found him nosing around in my purse, with an empty ibuprofen bottle on the floor, open. Immediate panic set in. I found this place from the All Creatures Great & Small website (that's where we take our dog for his regular vet visits), called them, and they recommended I come in right away. On my way there, while at a stoplight, I discovered the contents of the pill bottle were actually in the bottom of my purse. But since I'm not OCD enough to have counted them previously, I could not be 100% certain the dog hadn't eaten any, so I continued on. The staff immediately took the dog back to start treatment while I filled out some paperwork. I told them what I knew - and that he couldn't have eaten more than a couple, max - and they in turn told me what they had done and what they recommended. No pills were found in the dog's vomit, and I felt even more reassured that he probably hadn't actually eaten any, but until those talking-dog collars from UP become reality, I had to make sure. The short story is that the staff was friendly and professional and the vet himself was very reassuring. They were happy to answer my silly questions and even a few followups on the phone. I went home with two bottles of pills, instructions, a report and the reassurance that no permanent damage had been done. Like I said, I hope you don't need Emergency Vet Services, but if you do, these folks are really great. Also, the dog got his revenge a week later when he chewed up my nice work sandals. read more

My mom brought our very old cat here yesterday because she was very, very sick. My mom was very upset and on the brink of tears, but the staff were very understanding and caring. They told my mom that our cat, Shelly, was in total renal failure. They said that all they could do was put her down or fax her papers to my mom's regular veterinarian. My mom chose the latter option because she wasn't ready to make the decision to put our kitty down. The staff at the Emergency Veterinary Service took care of all of Shelly's paperwork and faxed it over to our normal veterinarian. They were very gracious to my mom during the entire ordeal and they were very nice about arranging a move for our cat the following morning. They ask that you call ahead just so that they can prioritize the other cases in the facility. They are open 24hrs a day and are always nice and willing to take care of your pets in a time of need. read more

I went here again last night with my dog and his scratched cornea. His eye looked horrible, and I had sudden midnight angst that I would wake up with a dog minus an eyeball, so I took him to the vet. He was thrilled at the midnight road trip until he realized where we were going. I was told by the receptionist / tech that the vet I was seeing was the new owner, Dr. Amy (Aimee??). There was no one else here, so I did not have to wait at all. Dr. Amy was super nice to my dog and really seemed like she loved animals (you'd think all vets would, but shockingly, this has not proven to be true). She hugged and kissed him and let him lick her face, which was pretty impressive. She put dye in his eye and let me see where the scratch was on his cornea. She gave me an ointment to put on his eye, and we were out of there in about 15 minutes. The whole thing, including the 20-minute drive both ways, took less than an hour. The price was pretty average for what I'd expect, given it was midnight and I got a tube of antibiotic ophthalmic ointment out of the deal. It was around a hundred bucks, which I feel is very reasonable. I highly recommend this place, as I did in my last review. Dr. Amy is fantastic, and her staff is friendly. If you've gotta go somewhere in the middle of the night on a holiday, I guess this would be the place to go! read more

Brought our dog to this emergency vet for end of life services, because we couldn't do it on the day I s with our vet. Big mistake our beloved dog was put down and we were told we'd get a text or email to pick up ashes. I called a month later said it takes three days for ashes and they couldn't find his! The manager called me back saying we did something I never heard of spreading his ashes over a farm. My options we're to mail for $19.00 or pick up!! What am amazing, miraculous oasis in the middle of the night. My dog became very ill very suddenly late on a Sunday. The staff was so wonderful, kind, calm, efficient, professional. Even though I had to wait in the car, they kept me appraised of his treatment and condition, and asked for my approval before tests were run. Unfortunately I just returned from EVS. The cat I've had for 20+ years was in respiratory distress and needed to be put down. I had spoken to Emma on the phone prior to arriving and she was very courteous and understanding. Dr. Rohde was very kind and gentle in his handling of everything. My cat was given a sedative prior to the "procedure" so that it was as minimally stressful as possible (for all parties involved). I could not have asked for a smoother process from beginning to end. As a side note: I have worked in the veterinary field for years and would not hesitate to bring my pets to EVS again if the need arose. read more

My bf and I found ourselves at Lisle Emergency Vet twice over a 4 day period. We foster cats for a car rescue and one of our fosters fell extremely ill on New Years Eve. We were told to go directly to Lisle ER Vet and we rushed there with him around noon. The staff rushed him in back and shortly after told us that he would't survive and needed to be put down. We were both devastated but they let us in the room with him to say goodbye. The doctor was so gentle with going over the procedure and how we should handle our other cats at home to keep them healthy. Unfortunately, three days later on Sunday, we found ourselves back at Lisle ER Vet, this time with one of our resident kitties. She had also come down with what had taken away our foster cat. We asked the Vet what we could do and he gently told us that she would be in less pain if we said goodbye. He gave us time to discuss our options among ourselves and when we decided that it would be better to put her down peacefully, the Vet and Vet Tech were both very sweet and understanding with our broken hearts. They let us hold her as she fell asleep and again, explained the process with receiving her ashes and what to do at home. We followed their advice and I'm happy to say that the disease that took our two cats from us hasn't hit any of our other cats at home. I am sad that I had to use Lisle ER Vet with during such sad times, but I would recommend it for any emergency needs. All the employees that we can into contact while we were there were very knowledgeable and very understanding. We received a beautiful card from there after our kitty passed that now sits next to her picture frame memorial. I honestly hope that I don't have to go back any time soon, but I know exactly where I will go if I ever have an emergency in the future. read more

A trip to the emergency vet is never a fun experience. The staff here makes it as enjoyable as possible. The staff REALLY cares about animals, it's very obvious! The night before I was supposed to go on vacation, I noticed something was wrong with my cat. I called over to Emergency Veterinary Services and they told me to bring him over. After a short 20 minute wait, they began treating my cat. Again, Dr. Smith and the vet techs were really caring and asked a lot of questions to make sure they understood what was going on with my cat. They thoroughly assessed his issues and provided me with medications, prescription food and instructions for care. They even sent over their lab work and x-rays to my usual vet. They do require payment at time of service. I felt what I was charged was reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to take any of my pets here again in an emergency. read more

I am writing to express my disappointment with the end of life care provided by your techs for my dog Noah on 1/1/21. Our first encounter was a greeting by the tech telling my mom to put on a mask because she didn't have one while we were outside crying. I would expect this response, however we Were outside and my mother was standing at a distance while myself who was close had a mask. In addition to this, I understand the techs know certain positions for lifting pets however they struggled with my large Great Dane and rudely replied no when asked to help. There was no blanket placed on this cart and it was a snowstorm so we just had to watch as my scared dog slid around on a slippery cart with two techs struggling to get him in the door. When I came in Noah was laying on that same cart that was way too small for him with no head support. He was drooling puddles and out of it before I even got to see him to say goodbye which was apparently due to his sedative. I would have appreciated to be in for that as well. There also seemed to be confusion about protocol... one staff member said my brother and mother could switch in and out to say goodbye and another says no that would increase the total number of people allowed in the building and cause them to not be able to treat other people. I do not quite understand that as two people rotating does not add an additional person inside together as well as people are only allowed in for end of life anyway. I then felt forced to wait outside for my dogs pawprint after I had already been in the building with them anyway. Your staff members' focus was on covid protocol and not on the end of life patient they had at that time. I am a registered nurse for a large hospital so I am no stranger to covid , but even our high risk environment allows family members to say goodbye and remain with their loved one while following protocol in a respectable manner. I suggest you somehow train your staff to have some compassion and manners during an extra difficult time. read more

The treatment of our dog, Zeus, who was at deaths door was impeccable from Dr. Amy and staff at EVS. Dr. Amy before surgery explained everything in detail what was going to be performed to our dog, and her demeanor, knowledge and compassion, I have NEVER experienced at any other vet or emergency vet. After Zeus was out of surgery, Dr. Amy called and gave me play by play, what happened before, during and after surgery. I felt as though I was in the operating room with her and Zeus. Not only was I comfortable after speaking with Dr. Amy, I had hope! We all know that you cannot put a price on your pets health, however, as an added bonus, their price was significantly less than any other emergency surgical vet around. read more

I cannot say enough about this veterinary service. Yesterday, our cat had a severe reaction to something and went from bad to worse very quickly. It was, obviously, very scary. When I called Emergency Veterinary Services of Lisle, the woman on the phone was so incredible kind and clear with me. We brought our cat in and he was seeing the doctor within 15 minutes. Doctor Amy called me and was patient, kind, and thorough when we were speaking. She made me feel very at ease during a very stressful situation. She called me back in a timely fashion every time that we spoke concerning updates. At the end of the day, she felt comfortable sending him back home with us as she was able to get his temperature down and stabilize him. She could have easily said that he needed to stay the night and we would not have questioned it. She was not looking to get our money, she was looking to help our cat. I had to bring one of my cats here when I was concerned he had eaten something that may have blocked his digestive system. I was there around midnight/1AM and Dr Bolotov took the time to go over the X-rays and what to look out for. It turned out nothing was blocked, but I appreciated Dr Bolotov's direct response to my questions and concerns. To others she may come across as brash, but I felt her demeanor was perfect when I needed answers immediately about my cat. I felt the price was fair for emergency X-rays in the middle of the night. read more

honestly my dog gets into a lot of stuff and eats things when we're not looking or even leave her home alone. i have brought my dog here a number of times for eating things. there were times they suggested we call poison control and other times they just told us to come in. and tonight she ate 2 bags of candy and they told us to call poison control and we chose not to and called the emergancy vet services back and said we wanted to take her in to get her stomach pumped and they said no and that we more fed a case number... i don't understand why sometimes they need a case number for poisonous food and other times they don't. this is b s go else where. read more

We typically take our dogs to Danada Vet for their routine care but unfortunately, our dog, Indy, was hit by a car on Friday night and needed immediate attention. The staff at EVS could not have been more compassionate, thorough or professional. Not only did they provide exceptional care, they were incredibly transparent in terms of cost and in how they explained treatment options. Our dog is on the mend now thanks to his overnight treatment at EVS. They even called 48 hours after to check on his recovery. If your furry family member ever needs emergency care, definitely take it to EVS. read more
