Had a rapidly deteriorating desktop PC running Windows 7 installed as an upgrade to Vista. I'm no computer novice so I tried just about everything I could think of to diagnose the problems before declaring defeat and looking for a professional to help. After doing some research I found Andrey from EPCS. Reasonable, competitive rates and even more important, he could come to my house to provide service. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my system at a service location knowing that I wanted to follow the repair process step by step to be sure what needed to be saved was saved and what needed to be done was done. I knew I'd have to answer questions about how important it would be to preserve this or that archive and this or that application. I didn't want to do that over the phone or sitting in a service location. Andrey showed up on time at my house at 2PM on Friday afternoon. We discussed the problems I was having and decided to try to solve the problems without a complete re-install of the operating system and software. Long story, short, that didn't work. So after an hour or so, Andrey suggested rebuilding the system from scratch. I agreed. Again, long story, short, he did a magnificent job. Formatted the hard disk, installed Windows 7, Microsoft Office software, and at least 20 other programs pulled from the internet. Much of it was work I could have done if I had had the courage and been willing to sacrifice still another weekend to troubleshooting, installing, testing, etc. But Andrey was magnificent. His multitasking skills were a wonder to behold; downloading multiple applications, installing and configuring them and linking my Outlook Exchange email application to both my corporate and personal archives. (No mean feat considering that my firm is on the east coast and access to the IT department was impossible on a Friday afternoon.) He accomplished in four hours what would have taken me forty. The bottom line is that I assumed my desktop system would have to be replaced in the next six months, or so, just to refresh the technology. Now my four year old desktop is nearly as fast as my new quad-core laptop. All in all, I can't recommend EPCS highly enough. Even if you're like me and consider yourself a pretty knowledgeable computer user who can maintain a system without (much) assistance, Andrey's help is a great investment. read more

We needed help with hooking up a PC to a TV set in our house so I could watch Netflix on the big screen. I called to make an appointment and Andrey told me what cable I needed for the connection. When he came to the house he was professional, friendly and very well mannered. We were impressed by how well he knew what he was doing. He hooked up everything and gave us all kinds of tips and hints on how to use the PC with the TV. Since there is a 2 hour limit for house calls, he spent the remaining time tuning up all of our computers (4) and gave us good lessons and tips about certain features and software. I normally don't write reviews, however, I was so impressed with the great service that I felt compelled to share this information. During the windstorm earlier this month, my wife's PC lost power and I heard a popping sound (yes...we have surge protection). I couldn't restart the computer and was thinking that maybe we should just replace it. I first called Geek Squad, and they didn't want to even look at it. They suggested Best Buy, however, it would be almost $200 for them to look at it. That's when I turned to the internet and searched Yelp. At first, it was hard to believe that a business could have a "straight 5" rating, but I called Emergency PC Services. I was told that it sounded like the power source on my PC had blown out. The gentleman (I'm presuming it's Andrey) said they don't stock parts, however, if one of their used power sources fit, he would be able to fix it. If not, the diagnosis would be free. It turned out that he did have a used power source and within a day, Andrey had replaced it, as well as cleaning the inside of my CPU. It works like a charm with very minimal service cost. Can I just say, WOW! Andrey knows the computer world! We had a horrible virus on our computer. First thing I did was go to Google and try to fix it myself. Next I followed the steps and to my dismay it didn't work. We had used Andrey about a month ago for some routine maintenance, installation of a hard drive and a few other things. He was more expensive than the computer technicians we have used in the past but the reason why I chose him was because of his stellar reviews. The computer technicians we have had in the past charged a lot less per hour but were not able to resolve the problems. So we ended up paying them for unresolved issues. Andrey is the best! My PC wouldn't POST for some reason. I tried cleaning the inside, swapping to my backup drive, and reseating the RAM, which is about the extent of my diagnostic capabilities. Nothing worked, so I brought it in for Andrey to look at. He was immediately able to test out a few things, and determined it had to be either the power supply, the processor, or the motherboard. The power supply tested okay, so he had me leave the computer with him. About half an hour later, he called and let me know that it booted fine when he used own power supply, so he used mine again, and it still booted fine. He suggested I just come back and pick it up, free of charge! It's hard to find an honest computer place that doesn't overcharge. No matter where you live, it's worth the drive to bring your computer here. read more

I'm computer clueless. I downloaded, but couldn't install, a program. Andre spent about five minutes fixing that and another problem I was having. He's a super-professional guy; he said it was free but I insisted on paying. The shop (on the west side of Central, next to a bail bond place) may be a little hard to find. It's across Central from Kent Middle School (?). The shop has a flat face, red, toward the street, no signs sticking out over the sidewalk. There's a parking lot behind the building, off an alley, that was fine, shown in one of the photos here as a small green rectangle. I'll return here with any future problems. OK - I did not get my computer fixed here. My Lenovo's screen went dim suddenly. All my computer friends dinked around with it and determined since they couldn't fix it, it must be a hardware problem. I took it in, and it booted up just fine in the shop, we chatted a bit about what it "might be" if it happened again, and I went on my way.. I got home, booted it up and tried to adjust the brightness and it did it again, so I took it back in. I got told it wasn't a hardware problem, they restarted it a few times and troubleshooted a possible workaround to use that didn't make the problem go away, but enabled me to adjust the brightness at bootup. I got free advice on what it might be software wise, what drivers I might want to look into checking, and a suggestion that resetting it to factory settings might or not fix it, but that I should try that next.. While waiting I got to listen to a happy repeat customer chat with the guy behind the counter, and what I heard made me feel even better about the shop. I liked that he took his time to talk to me about the computer even after he determined it wasn't something that I needed him to fix/he was sure would be fixed by reformatting. He could've easily taken the computer, say he'd play around with it, reformatted it for me, and charged me if it worked, and not if it didn't - it would've been minimal effort for him and made him money. I really appreciated that he suggested I handle it myself. Things seem to be back to normal after reformatting I don't HOPE any of my computers break in the near future, but if so I'll feel very comfortable going back here to get the work done.. read more

I've been there three times. Once I was charged the shop minimum and the other two times he opened the case, gave me simple instructions AND parts lists to fix the thing himself. The second of those times was yesterday and I was having difficulties with my Ethernet connection. After talking with me about the problem and diagnosing it as a hardware issue he offered to do it himself for the shop minimum but, he said, it was a simple matter of popping a new card into some slots. It used to be that every household needed a good doctor, lawyer and auto repairman in their contacts. The older I get the more important it has been to add a computer technician to that list. I have always tried to support local businesses in and around my neighborhood. My first experience with a small local business was a disaster but it taught me how to ask the right questions and when to cut my losses. My "go to" techs then became the nice guys at a local big box store. But as time passed I began to get that smarmy feeling ....the one I remember getting from a couple of auto mechanics I've had the displeasure of dealing with. It wasn't the fault of the technicians so much as changing store policies and slick managers who I caught in out and out deception. So when I replaced our elderly XP with a nice little Dell with windows 7 on it for my husband I decided I did not want the stress of schlepping everything to the big box store to get stuff moved over to the new computer and I didn't want to do all the other hookups either. I had already talked to Andrey a couple of times over the past months with questions about diagnosing and repairs and was so impressed with his professionalism and customer service manner on the phone that I made note of this business which isn't far from where I live in Des Moines. Over the last year I've hired Andrey several times. I had issues with a laptop screen that needed to be replaced, networking problems, and most recently a graphics card problem. I have chosen to work with Andrey for several reasons.......Andrey responds immediately. If you call or leave a message he will get back to you and within a reasonable time. Andrey is very knowledgeable. He has enough of a grasp of his work that he is able to explain it to the lay person so that it is easy to understand. He is very diligent. Even when the first solution he offered didn't work he kept at it until the problem was solved. Most importantly, he understands old fashioned customer service. He is not going to "nickel and dime" you for every little charge. He is going to be fair with you. Each time he has made suggestions or done work that I hadn't requested but he knew would improve the performance of my computer. Don't go anywhere. Andrei is really good, and an awesome person. He won't charge you if he can't get your computer fixed. I went to that "Geeks" place and they were going to charge me at least $350 to look at and then transfer my data. No guarantees if they can fix it. I searched Yelp and found this site with nothing but 5-star reviews. I called, Andrei picked up and I dropped off my computer. I needed to get my computer up and running again, or at least retrieve all the documents (pictures, files and music) back as I have not backed up anything. I am so glad I went to Andrei. Not only did he fix my computer, he didn't charge me for anything else. Just his standard flat fee which is very fair and reasonable. Also, he is very nice and will tell you what you need to do, and everything you need to know about your computer. If ratings go to 10-stars, I will definitely give him 10-stars. He deserves it. Thanks for your excellent service! Before I called you I took my computer to Best Buy (where I bought it). They said that my computer was so infected with viruses that they could not fix it and I would have to buy a new computer. I could not afford this so I called Norton Anti Virus who was supposed to have protected me and asked if they had some way to cleanse it. They said they could, but they only perform these services for people who have their three year warranty at a cost of $409.00 and I would probably loose all of my pictures (thousands) in the process. The Windows 10 update destroyed my Acer Aspire v17 Nitro laptop because of some very odd issue with it requiring the battery to be removed from the machine. Well, writing yet another glowing review of this business is probably not going to change anyone's mind, but I had to do it. He has a very small store front in downtown Kent sandwiched between a Taco stand and a bail bondsman. Passed it many times and thought it was too tiny to be real. My bad. Appearances can be deceiving. There is nothing that is fly-by-night or unprofessional about this operation. I had a lap top with a broken CD drive that needed to be replaced. I took it down and -- in a few seconds -- Andrey figured out what needed to be done and pulled up a source for the broken parts on his computer, showed me that the pictures and part numbers matched exactly with what was broken, and offered to order them for me at his cost and then, since it was "so simple," he would install them for free. I'm thinking "Hey, I like saving money as much (or more) as the next guy, but I seriously want this marvelous human being to stay in business. He is way too efficient, professional, honest and fair, to risk losing." So I said 'Please, at least put your minimum labor charge on the invoice so you make something.' Why pay for somebody's fancy store front? If you are in South King county, this is the go-to guy if you have any kind of a computer problem. read more
