Each shelf can hold substantial weight and it is really solid. Huge improvement. We also had broken bi-fold cabinet door hinge and the door had been off for months. I found Square Root Carpentry after doing a lot of searching online and the reviews looked good, so I gave Ken a call. Within a couple of weeks, we now have a fully functional corner cabinet. Albano Builders have done several projects for me. The first two required some problem solving that…read morewas not obvious. The first of these was to figure out why some of my porch pillars seemed to be showing signs of rot in the middle. The Albano's had correctly determined that the builder had used hollow wooden pillars that had actually been designed for internal use. We replace some of these pillars and will be doing the rest soon. Our most recent project was to put a new deck on our home. We have a Victorian style house and there is already an extensive wrap around porch which is a main feature of our home. How the new deck would look and fit in with the already extensive decking was of great concern. Glen from Albano Builders had some great ideas and we are very happy with the way things turned out. They were a joy to work with and I felt like I was on the set of "This Old House". During the planning stages Glen would pop over with the latest samples of ornamental wood carvings he found or had made to get our feedback. All in all, it was quite entertaining and Glen's enthusiasm and passion for what he works on is infectious. I strongly recommend them as contractors. I write this as we are contemplating our fourth project in two years with them.

He has great ideas and isn't afraid to tell you if something you want to do isn't necessarily worth the expense (which we very much appreciated). They delivered high-quality work that leveraged their knowledge and expertise to ensure our new space was functional and beautiful. Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with.
