I contacted Emerald Tree Service to cut down a tree in my backyard and to cut back some branches on another and the guy who came by for the quote was prompt, courteous, very knowledgeable and gave me a reasonable quote. However, I mentioned that I had kids and was wondering if we could schedule it in the morning so they would be done before their bed times (since cutting down trees is not a quiet thing). He said they could and we scheduled a date and time. The day came and no one showed up at the scheduled time. I got busy, soon after the scheduled time, and had to take a couple meetings (I work from home), and I assumed they were a little late and would start whenever they arrived (since they originally told me that no one needed to be home, they could do the work without me). About 2 - 3 hours later I was out of meetings and went outside to check on how things went and nothing was done. No one had ever come by, and I never received a call saying they would be late. I called their office and no one answered, and so I left a message. I assumed they weren't coming by and had to put my kids to bed... then 30 minutes later they showed up and started knocking on my door, waking up the entire house. I talked to the foreman and told them they were supposed to be here hours ago, and he just rudely shrugged and rolled his eyes, and offered no explanation. So I then outlined to him that I had kid nap times and we had agreed on a specific time. He was a little more remorseful then and said he would call his boss to schedule a new time. He was on the phone for literally 10 seconds, and then told me they couldn't reschedule. They did not discuss options at all. I'm sure he looked at how much he was making on this job, and decided I just wasn't worth to keep as a customer. This is completely unacceptable to me. They were rude, did not apologize, and did not care at all about our previous agreement, which I have documented in an email. I told them I did not want to do business with them and they left. Now if they had told me upfront that "Hey, we can't guarantee a time slot, this is just our best guess ..." then that would have been fine. I could have accepted it knowing to prepare my kids for the noise, but completely disregarding our previous agreement and then not giving two shits about it is bad business. read more

Here are some real tree huggers! I got an estimate on the spot, and booked them to take down 2 very large (50+ ft) and 2 smaller trees. They came on time the next week, did the dirty deed quickly and tidied up after themselves. I didn't have them remove the wood or stumps because the area will be excavated anyhow. The cost was $1150, which I felt was very reasonable. I'd definitely use them again. read more

We agreed but later the owner sent a team by to clear up the fallen part, then they just said while they were there they would just finish up the job. He was out the next day, gave a bid lower than another highly rated service, and three days later the work was done - in less than 3 hours. Emerald City's crew was polite, safe, and knew what they were doing. They took great care to protect vulnerable plants and flowers adjacent to the tree as well as power lines in branches overhead. This was an amazing experience. The owner was responsive and listened to my needs, gave me a written quote, showed up on the date he said he would, and did the job brilliantly. Additionally, I was having two enormous (100+ foot) pines taken down in a fenced yard of about 8000 sq ft. There was no damage to the fence, the roof, or anything in the yard. The small pear tree growing between the two trees was also undamaged (though I have no idea how they managed that, it was a nice surprise, I had written that tree off as a loss). The first year they came they did a good job. The last two times have not been good. They sheared the top off a Smoke Tree thinking that 7' request for street side clearance meant the trim the tree to 7'. They trimmed w/o charge the next year. This year they charged and in addition sheared the top off a Camelia next to the front door when I specifically said to trim it for vertical growth in talking to one of the workers on site. What arborist shears the top off a tree without clarifying! I would add pictures if it were possible. The Smoke tree still looks terrible, thick 4+" diameter branches with a 20 1/4-1/2" starts coming off the end of the cut portion. Get it in writing and make sure they sign off before they start or better yet. don't use them. read more

Eric came out, gave an extremely fair quote (less than half of what two other companies quoted us.) I found Emerald Tree Service in April based on recommendation of another tree service company, they were booked solid and it was in the beginning of the pandemic, so they couldn't even come out for an estimate. Eric Gale came out, looked over our trees very thoughtfully, gave us a quote that looked very reasonable. And then we had to revise the quote a few times because we decided to do a bit of pruning ourselves. And Eric was very patient and very accommodating. His crew, Camille, the lead, Chris and John, came out at the end of July and did an excellent job. They had to take down a tree and prune a bunch, that's because we haven't had it done in so long. I liked that they were fast, very polite, professional, and obviously cared for trees. I was worried that there may be a nest in one of the trees and Camille assured me that they never touch branches with nests on them. Paid over $800 to have 3 fruit trees pruned, some shrubs (rhododendron, forsythia bushes) , and a pine tree cut back. Very uneven job. The contractor who came out to make the estimate seemed very knowledgeable about trees, then sent 2 people out who didn't to do the work. He didn't even come out to inspect their work when they finished after a mere 2 hours. Apple tree looked sloppily over pruned , apricot and plum tree barely pruned, if at all (many thin branches going upwards from center of tree left like that). Shrubs uneven. I was hesitant to say anything at the time as I am not a tree specialist but even after 2 weeks the trees don't look right. Very disappointed. They did do a good job of cleaning up by bringing their own wood chipper along. The pine tree they trimmed back was left looking like it was half eaten with disease as all the limbs on only one side of the tree were chopped off. The contractor called and asked if he could come over an take a photo of the apple tree, but then never showed up. I now realize all the 5 star reviews about them here are on tree removal services, which they are probably good at. I should have probably hired someone else for fine pruning/landscaping. I do feel cheated that the contractor acted like he knew all about fruit trees and pruning, when the work clearly shows they didn't. read more

These guys did a fantastic job from bid to completion. Had 3 Cryptomerias about 18" around and 35' tall taken out that were too close to the house. Met Eric, got a reasonable bid, and he was able to get in about a week later. His guys did a great job; fell the trees, chipped and removed the limbs, and stacked the trunk wood neatly (I wanted to keep it to burn). Mike, Todd and team provided professional tree removal service. They promptly provided a quote (pdf file) and removed the aspen four days later. The tree was cut into firewood lengths, logs stacked, and all the branches were removed and taken away, with hardly a trace, except saw dust.. This particular tree was 3.5 stories tall and three feet from my home, so delicate extraction was required. If I need a tree cut in the future, I will turn to Emerald Tree Service. We had two large rhododendron bush/trees in our front yard that had been obstructing the limited view we had in West Seattle. Contacted the owner, Eric, who was available within a day or so for the estimate. Down-to-earth and very knowledgeable, Eric provided helpful insights and tips on not only said trees but when I elicited for more input on the remaining outside area, he was willing to take extra time to walk over the other area, addressing my concerns and offered sound feedback. He could have easily sold me on other work (bringing himself more money etc) but instead, he suggested that I wait it out and see how things came along..... Ultimately, the quote received was very reasonable and with next day service, not sure if it gets better than this. I reviewed other places over yelp but did not want to waste any more time on getting quotes with little time to spare with kid, work, family etc. My mom supervised the job the following day and noted the efficient and clean job performed by the different work crews who came for the tree and then the pruning of a side bush. My mom wrote a check that I left for her and services were simply settled. When I came home, it was a great sight to see that removal of those trees. My husband and I had been discussing this project for months but what turned out to be something in contemplation for months was completed from an initial estimate to start and finish with the removal in a matter of three days. Wow. I'm totally impressed. Emerald Tree Service took out a pine tree in a tight corner of my yard and pruned a seriously overgrown hemlock hedge. Just as a side note, I've never worked with this company before but have with two other Seattle tree companies. I asked Eric for a quote and he came out right away. His price was not only fair but beat the competition by $250.00. Scheduling the service was easy via email and Eric contacted me an extra time to clarify a question about the pruning. We scheduled the job and the crew was here 20 minutes early. They were in a good mood, friendly, easy to work with and asked me questions to make sure they had the details of what i wanted right. We used the team at Emerald Tree Service for a variety of tree work. They were very skilled, safe, timely, efficient, neat, and honest. We had a tall dead cherry tree removed. It was close to the house and electric wires. They were very careful and there was no damage to property. We also had two 25' shrubs (Bay and Portugal Laurel) reduced in size to bring in more light and limit debris in gutters. The arborist did a really nice job, making them look natural. They also properly pruned two large fruit trees, and trimmed a Birch in a way that opened the neighbor's view of Mt. Rainier, without altering the growth pattern of the Birch. We were very pleased with their work: They came when they said they would, the estimate was reasonable for the 5 hours they were there working, and they cleaned everything up and took it away. I contacted Emerald Tree Service and set up an appointment for a bid (prune 2 overgrown fruit trees, remove a vine maple, prune and cable a 60' pine). Eric called me when he was running a bit behind schedule. When he arrived, he listened to my concerns, made some suggestions, then wrote up the bid and emailed it to me before leaving. It was a very reasonable price, so I scheduled the work. They rescheduled my job for earlier when some time came open for them, and let me know I didn't need to be home -- they would email me the invoice afterward. Three men came to do the work. After introducing themselves, they immediately got started. They were fast and meticulous, and after finishing much faster than I would have expected, they made sure every sign that they'd been there was cleaned up.
