I kind of found it a little bit odd that I was able to have so many choices so close to the date, given that usually my regular massage therapist is booked out weeks in advance. I thought I should try this place because it was closer and, well, I was getting a really good financial deal. So I'd called. when I went to the location in Woburn, it was set up really really odd. The front desk is in a large open area and had a gentleman sitting at the desk who seemed very uninterested in working that day lol. Very serene, but all the lights were blue? It was a little weird and offputting for me, but it did have that calming feeling I guess. My therapist was Hallie (sp?) A male, and I knew that ahead of time, and I was OK with that. He led me to a room in another part of the building. Next-door, and it looked like it was originally a bunch of small offices, and my room had windows? Covered with Window treatment so you couldn't see in from walking through the hallway. That set up was really weird to me. The room was nice. Nothing special, it was on the warmer side, but when I have a massage, I like to have the room warm. He did offer to turn the heat down for me, but I explained how I usually like it very warm. He then went on to explain to me how he does massages. He said he didn't like deep tissue, which, of course is not what I requested, but when he did "Swedish massage and a combination of pressure point massage". I'd never had that, so I thought I would give it a try, even though that's really not what I had signed up for. How was it? It was... Boring? I'm not really sure how else to put it. Is Hallie very adept at what he does? Absolutely. But for somebody who is expecting a Swedish massage where you have sweeping strokes of hands and kneeding your muscles for the entire time you're there, this was not it. I didn't say anything at all because I kept thinking well, he's going to eventually start doing the kneeding of Swedish part of the massage , but he never really did it. He would run his hands over my back or the "affected" area. Find a spot and put hard pressure on it. He explained to me that what that would do would bring blood flow to the area and help with the knot. While I appreciate that, it really wasn't what I wanted for massage. I wanted to relax this massage just felt very... Disjointed. Now I will say again that I didn't say anything to him because I kept expecting that the massage was going to go from this pressure point massage, to a regular Swedish massage because he had mentioned he used the combination of the two. And it didn't. He was very, very nice, and he's very knowledgeable about what he's doing, but the massage was just not really what I had wanted. I probably should've said something while I was there, but I didn't want to make him feel badly that he didn't give me what I needed. Again, I kept expecting during the time that he was going to be changing to the different type of massage. I guess, in retrospect, I should've asked for how he did this combination. But I didn't. She looks surprised. When she brought me to have the massage, she brought me downstairs into the basement. There was no light on the stairs, and when we got to the basement room, she had turned on a space heater so I could be worked on. Was it cold in there? Let's just say it wasn't warm. I never had an Ashiastu massage before, but looking into it, decided to give it a try since my back pain was flaring up and I needed help. I was very impressed with how much better this type of massage feels over the typical ones I get. An Ashiastu massage is the type where they walk on your back, but it is much more than that. My issue was the rushed session, the required amount of tip (a tip at any service place is always optional and up to the customer!) and then the literal rolling of eyes and annoyance when I didn't have exact change even though they did indeed have a change to give me. And just to be clear, I was going to leave a tip but it was $1 less than what they wanted and they wouldn't accept it.

Over time, however, it felt like the management style, particularly at the ownership level, shifted. Communication became inconsistent, and situations that once would have been handled directly and professionally were not. This was not reflective of the front desk team. Many of the therapists I connected with moved on. My most recent experience simply was not the right fit. I did not feel fully heard, and the session felt more rushed than mindful. After the session, there was no follow up or check in at all, which has never happened in any of my previous experiences here. I was tired of bouncing around, so I gave it time to see if things might improve. In the end, she agreed it was not the right fit. What was most disappointing was how it was handled. It took several calls, emails, and texts from me to learn that my sessions had been canceled less than 24 hours before my next appointment. The front desk told me the owner was supposed to call me about the cancellations and to suggest an alternative therapist, but that call never happened, and there was no follow up afterward. There was also a brief moment that stood out. I had left more than 20 percent, though less than the week before because the experience felt different. When I shared that, it was suggested that the front desk might not have passed the full amount along. That surprised me, as the front desk team has always been consistently kind, professional, and trustworthy. I want to be clear that the front desk staff are excellent. They make scheduling seamless, communicate thoughtfully, and create a welcoming environment every time you walk in. I am writing this because I cared about this place. I used to genuinely look forward to coming here. Moving on feels like losing something familiar, almost like losing a friend.
