She is thorough and effective with her treatments, getting to each specific trigger point on muscles you never even knew were there. While, the treatment may not be the most relaxing(this is not a petting zoo experience!), it is beyond beneficial and result driven. Not only is Carrie a muscle guru, she provides energy healing that is approachable and flows seamlessly into her practice. Her calm nature can put even the most angst ridden individual at ease and her charming wit is just an extra bonus! I have searched far and wide to find a bodywork practitioner that provides me with myofascial relief and makes me, my soul, feel healed upon departure. I always leave there with a heightened sense of self and a calmness that stays with me throughout the day. Carrie is beyond flexible with booking times and rescheduling. She understands that sometimes, life gets in the way! I visit her at North End Yoga for treatments, the space is convenient and centrally located for us city folks. I leave her sessions feeling like something constructive has happened. I've been into running and cycling for years, to the point where I now have issues with very tight muscles and knots in my back, glutes and hamstring muscles. No longer does simple stretching work to help me avoid injury. To help, Carrie digs in, completely knowledgeable of all the anatomy and the techniques to make muscles loosen. She's super-intuitive and quickly finds the spots that need attention -applying as much pressure as I can handle, and quick to adjust when it's too much or too little. In the past, I've recommended friends to see Carrie for 'emergency' visits to work out crippling spasms or soreness or other troubles. Invariably she gets it done to loosen the knots and smooth out the wrinkles in your psyche. Add to all that her Lexington studio is in a great location off Mass Ave, and her cute South African accent makes her funny quips all the more charming. Unlike 'buff and puff' spa massages, hers leave me feeling much healthier than when i came in. And she is very easy to communicate with by text - responsive and flexible to schedule changes as needed.

Shaylynn's technique provided immediate and (more importantly) lasting relief to my pain. She has very strong hands and always uses the perfect balance of pressure to really work the tissues without making it too painful or leaving you bruised (I've sadly had both from other local therapists). I returned every two weeks and the 1-2 days after my appointment were always the most pain-free. In combination with physical therapy exercises, which were not doing it alone, Shaylynn's treatments have made a huge difference in getting my back to a good place and returning my range of motion. I felt pretty great from other massage therapists in the area, but I feel fantastic when I'm done with Emily. She was able to hone in on bad spots in my shoulder's nerve causing some numbness in my fingers, help one of my ribs go back to the right place, and almost put me to sleep when she massaged my head and neck. But... I think I finally found my masseuse guys. She gave me the best massage I've had in YEARS. Why would going deep in a particular area of my shoulder cause my left foot to tingle? Why is the slight lower back pain I've had for months now gone after she fixed a weird alignment thing in my right hip I didn't even realize was there, but that she felt? Why is it 3 days later and I still have that buttery calm post-massage feeling (I showered, I promise, so it's not that!)? She uses yummy smelling natural stuff like coconut oil and shea butter with essential oils - no mystery chemical smells while the massage is going on. Her space in Arlington is relaxed and clean and homey. I've mostly gone to more spa-like environments for massages and wasn't sure what this would be like, but I can say the coziness and warm lighting was preferable! All that said, she could move her practice to the #1 bus stop in Central Square and I'd probably still go see her. That's how good she is. She is a truly special talent in this field and I'll be going back as often as my wallet allows it :)
