I asked around and received many recommendations but after looking at each website to compare prices, Lumine Salon had a price I was all about $25 for a student to cut my hair. Since I'm ok with friends cutting my hair with kitchen scissors, I figured a student would be much better than that! I'm SO GLAD I chose to come here. Yes, a student cut my hair, but the owner of the salon was there to ensure I got a great haircut. She made sure the stylist was using the right kind of products for my hair, checking to make sure everything was even, gave advice on what would fit my face well. The stylist and the owner were fun and professional and just took really great care of me. I could tell they really love and take pride in the work they do, and they want to do it really well. I'm sold on this place and will be regularly coming back. The service and final product have turned me from "I hate how much I have to pay, it's not worth it, I don't Care what my hair looks like" to "I can't wait to spend my money here and do it again". ALSO, adding this: they were so cautious and hygienic. I was asked to sanitize or wash my hands upon arrival, everyone wore masks, there was plexiglass in between every station, everything was cleaned after use. 10/10 on Covid cautiousness.

The Salon is a full service salon offering, hair care, coloring, waxing, manicures, pedicures, and skin care services. Jamie is wonderful to chat with while she cuts your hair, she listens to what you want and she works with what nature gave you in order to enhance your natural attributes. I so appreciated a hairstylist that didn't want to color my hair, and actually affirmed my natural hair color, worked with my hair and its texture and gave me a professional cut that makes me look and feel great. I now know why a number of women that I have met in Belton go to The Village Salon. Oh, and did I mention that the prices for these professional services that would put any salon in KC to shame, are easy on the budget. As I was setting up a time with Diane, the first lady was trying to call me back because she had a cancellation. Wow, these ladies really try to please. I was even more pleased entering and meeting the owner Mary Ann and my nail specialist. This place can be difficult to find. It is on 87th and Hauser Ct. behind the Pizza Hut. The place was bigger than I imagined. Apparently the owner was able to do more with this building than the last one she had down the street. It definitely shows. Great art and colors and arrangement of the whole place. I am so very glad I ended up here. The atmosphere was very relaxed and calming and a fun place to be in. On the day I was there there was another nail specialist, and massage therapist and hair stylist. All seemed to enjoy their jobs. This place is also very much into EOE. Which is a plus to see in Johnson County. Also looking at the other customers coming and going it seemed as if everyone enjoyed their treatments here. I was among them. Usually, I only get clear polish, specially my toes because they then to repeal polish and start to peal immediately. However, for my costume I had to get red and white. I will say Diane has done a great job because they are still on and I am still getting compliments on my nails everyday. And there was no pain in the plucking, my other fear. Over multiple appointments, my scheduled times would consistently be pushed back for hours because walk-in clients were being taken ahead of me. Despite that, I stayed patient, flexible, and understanding because I genuinely wanted to support the business and trusted that the final outcome would be worth it. Unfortunately, the actual service felt rushed. I was there for around six hours total, yet afterward I noticed several locs in the back of my head had been combined and split unevenly, while the rest of my hair was done completely differently. The lower section especially looked inconsistent and unfinished compared to the top, almost as if it was done quickly hoping it wouldn't be noticed. The work did not flow naturally or match throughout my head, and it became more obvious once I got home and looked through my hair carefully. What upset me most was how the situation was handled afterward. When I brought up my concerns respectfully, I was told that two people had worked on my hair for "10 hours," which simply was not true. A second person only assisted during the last portion of the appointment, and I was physically present the entire time, so hearing an exaggerated version of events instead of accountability was frustrating and disappointing. I'm not leaving this review to be hateful or malicious. I believe in supporting local stylists and giving honest feedback where it's deserved. But after the amount of patience, time, and money I invested into this experience, I do not feel the quality of service or professionalism matched what was promised.

Again, I don't like to cause a ruckus but the hairdresser walked over to the owner (when she has about 3 braids left) and said she can't finish my hair because I was "acting weird" which was just me not trying to breakdown at how I looked. The owner then told me she (the hairdresser) had an issue with me speaking a different language on the phone and later told me to go back to my country. The owner is foreign, as well as my cousin who recommended the salon to me, which is why I felt safe enough to go there. Such a bad experience but one that people need to know about!
