I went in & the stylist and I had a great conversation about what I was looking for. The cut was really beautiful but she said the color would take more time than what we'd booked. She said she'd confer with the owner for any additional suggestions for processing my hair, and I scheduled the following week for color services. I returned for the color a week before Christmas. We spoke again to confirm my objective: I wanted ash blonde highlights in my naturally grey hair. Easy Peasy, right? No. The color process went awry, and after she tried to tone the color down with an all-over color, I left with a full head of solid strawberry blonde hair. Yes, I paid $250 for a 3 hour, total hair transformation...which was great if I were in witness protection. On Christmas Eve, my grandchildren cried because they didn't recognize me, and our dinner was unusually quiet. Previously, I've mentioned Tabitha (still highly recommend!) but due to some newer constraints of my schedule, I've had to switch stylists. The stylist I'm going to now is Emma and she is AHHHHMAZING. For reference (as I write this), I'm 17 weeks postpartum and officially in the hair shedding phase/just needing a bit of a glow up. Rather than chopping my hair off (which is a bit past my shoulders), I had Emma install 20 inch hand tied hair extensions on me. Her installation process was smooth, she matched my hair to the extensions perfectly, and she gave me an extremely good blend. I've been coming to Emma probably for about 7-9 months now and she's always knowledgeable, kind, and professional. I feel like conversation flows effortlessly with her and from the first time I met her, it felt like I was talking to a FRIEND. This extension install has completely boosted my confidence as a new mom - I literally left the salon feeling like a brand new woman! I asked her to trim about two inches off. Without asking me or explaining what she was doing, she cut a layer into the middle section of my hair. I have very fine hair that cannot support layers, and because this one landed about midway down, I was left with a frizzy, bowl-cut look in the middle and longer, visibly see-through ends hanging below it -- nothing close to what I asked for. What makes this worse is how avoidable it was. Toward the end of the cut, while she was hacking through these layers, she was busy chatting with her next client instead of paying attention to what she was doing to my hair. Because my first visit with her had gone so well, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and didn't say anything in the moment. The fallout was significant. I had to spend 10 hours researching stylists, booking consultations, and getting corrective extensions -- time I did not have before a major event -- on top of $1,000 to fix what should never have happened. The stylist I ultimately saw for corrections confirmed that my hair type should never have layers cut into it at all. I will not be returning, and I'd urge others with fine hair to be very cautious.
