I would never recommend Peter/Emerald Doors. I needed one door to be replaced in my apartment. I contacted Peter in early January. He assured me that it would be a quick job, that he would get the custom door made and then installed by one of his guys, no problem. Without going into the details, it's been almost two months and I have an unpainted, wrong-sized door...and I am still waiting for the job to be completed. Throughout this saga, Peter never proactively checked in with me. He ended up dropping the project entirely and gave it to Gio. Peter did offer to refund my deposit but assured me that the project would be finished....If I hadn't been on top of Peter to see this through, I doubt he would've contacted me to give any updates. Overall, Peter was entirely unprofessional, uncommunicative and disrespectful. I appreciate that this was a small project - but why agree to take it on if they weren't able to complete it in a relatively timely matter? His colleague Gio is a nice guy, more responsive...and I'm just hoping that he'll be able to see this through and make it right. Peter certainly couldn't care less. read more

I was not happy at all with this door replacement. 1) We were to keep the original existing hinges, which required the replacement door to have its standard hinges removed and cutouts made in the steel for the placement of the old ones. This was not done properly. One was in the wrong place and both had screw holes in the wrong place. Installer had to fix but we were left with a ~2 inch square exposure of the wood. How fire proof can a door be with the wood exposed? Luckily my husband is highly skilled and was able to repair this. 2) The door was also not quite wide enough and so the installer had to adjust the frame. 3) The new door hardware was damaged with scratches on outside and inside. The inside knob was dented. Only the dented knob was replaced which was disappointing. When you get something new you expect it to be undamaged. 4) Our hardware is gold and the new door came with a gold main lock but it has a silver deadlock when it should have been brass. We replaced the silver deadlock with a new brass one ourselves. 5) The door makes a squeaking sound when you open it. Installer fixed at the time of installation but it has come back again. I refer to Installer because the person who installed the door was from a completely different company. Having talked to him during the many hours the poor man was here doing the install, I am sure he could have done a better job had he done the initial measure and quote himself. We'll be using him again for other work as he is a general contractor. Although I gave them two stars I would recommend Emerald Doors at all. PM me if you want the contractors name. read more

I have my own business and have had the pleasure of working with Peter twice since we've opened (6 months ago in our brick and morter). For the first installation, we had a couple of hiccups with my ordering the wrong door, door frame etc, but Peter went out of his way to make sure that everything worked out well. On this same job, he even undercharged us, and ate the cost which shows how much integrity he has. He is more than just a door installer, he made sure that our doors were up to code with the various departments (again going above and beyond) was extremely responsive whenever we had questions and concerns. The prices are also absolutely reasonable and I knew I was not getting ripped off or taken by Peter. When we choose to install two more doors, he was the first person we called. Again, it was a pleasure working with him. He didn't rush us at all, was completely patient and honest. Peter-- if you go into handwork, construction or any other sort of home repair business, please let me know and we'll be the first to hire and re-hire you! Peter and George helped me install a cellar door with hydraulics. I was very skeptical to work with Peter because of the mixed reviews. Although for each meeting, he was never on time but eventually did show up on the date we had scheduled. I had low expectations because of the reviews and in general, contractors are rarely on time. Whenever you work with contractors, you have to have a lot of patience. I decided to work with Peter because he seemed the most knowledgeable and was pretty responsive. He might not have been on time but whenever I would email or text him, he would respond. We had very specific needs because our family uses the cellar door multiple times a day. Our old cellar door was scary to use. I have small children and one time, the old door almost hit my son. So when I told Peter, we needed something that was easy to open and close with hydraulics. He recommended the Bilco door and it was extra for hydraulics but it was worth it for our family because we use the door so often. It took around 5 weeks to get the door ordered/delivered and installed. George did a great job with the cement and install. He got to our house at 5pm due to traffic and finished around 9pm. It's been about two weeks since the door was installed and everyone in my family loves it. I love being able to open and close the door so easily. It is really super easy than before. With our old door, whenever I would close the door, I would be so scared of breaking my neck. Now I don't have to worry about any physical harm. 9/13/18 -10 DAYS now and my aunt has not seen a dime of "her money" returned to her, so now it's time to contact the DAs office and thankfully my brother in law is an attorney so my aunt doesn't have to waste more money trying to collect from this thief. I feel very bad for anybody else who this happened to; this is just plain robbery of innocent people! Taking deposits for products or services yet not providing ANYTHING! I bet this is his full time career! Pathetic.............Do not give a dime to this company & please give it to a business that is legitimate or if you have thousands to spare, give it to a charity. Written on 9/1/18 : So I had a conversation recently with my aunt and I come to find out that this company took her deposit and never provided the agreed-upon products she believed was going to be provided. She is still waiting for her deposit to be returned and though they claim they will I highly doubt it reading the other reviews but it seems since I ran into somebody else recently in Astoria---- she is not the only victim that has had this experience with this company so just be careful and cautious and do your due diligence. It's a very small world and word gets around but you don't take a deposit and not deliver upon it and then say oh I'll pay you back? no!!!! you don't pay back on your schedule, you pay back as quickly as it was submitted to you. I.e you return it within 24 hours especially when you're in the wrong there was no reason she should've had to wait months for this to happen and we will possibly remove this review when she receives her deposit yet until that point we will not believe it until we see it. The owner apparently very disoriented or possibly this is habitual and gives a sob story to make you feel bad for him?? You're a businessman and are in business or you are pretending to but don't make your clients feel sorry for you because it's not going to work not with us anyway and now that I am involved I'm going to make sure she gets that money back and every dime. It's such a shame that an innocent woman trusts a company to do what they say and has to be aggravated and upset over giving away money that she really can't afford to just give away. Our pre-war building needed two new apartment doors. The doors are not easy to find as they are larger than most and quite different in how they are framed. We also needed the doors to have mirrors on the front side as they were for the lobby apartments. Emerald doors took on the task and did an excellent job! My standards are high and when a job is well done I feel it is important to share the information. Emerald doors were highly recommended by friends who had also used them in the past and was very happy with their work. Emerald doors came to my house to replace my doors, and the men were pleasant and professional. The price that I was quoted by Peter over the phone was exactly what I paid. When I need similar work in the near future, I certainly will call on Emerald Doors again and would not hesitate to refer them to all of my friends. read more

I wish it were possible to give no or "negative" stars. This was the worst experience that I have ever had with a contractor. Peter Pastor was considerably late for our first appointment (and for every appointment thereafter, many of which he cancelled at the last minute). After giving Peter the okay to proceed on the work (replace one door and repair a frame and do some Bondo work on another door as well as supply new hardware), and sending a 50% deposit, months went by during which I heard nothing from him. My repeated attempts to contact him were ignored. I had to threaten to take legal action to get him to respond. Then, as it turns out, he had forgotten to order the hardware and, I suspect, the door as well. At one point, after canceling the appointment several times, came to my apartment to "borrow" a door handle to be able to match the new hardware. He promptly lost the door handle. Three to four months later, I finally got it back, but there still is a screw missing, which he didn't bother to replace and is difficult to find, as no one can tell me whether the handles are American or European (and the screws have a metric measurement). All the work was supposed to be done BEFORE I moved in. I gave him the okay to start in mid-July and, by September 22 (over two months later), when I moved in, nothing had been done The two guys he sent to do the Bondo work did not have the proper experience--which Peter later admitted (and I have in writing). The work was horrendous. I had to pay my painters extra to do all the Bondo work. I also had to pay them extra to come back and paint the doors after they were installed/fixed, as the doors should have been installed prior to their painting of my apartment. The two guys painted only the outside of one door, and did a lousy job (as I describe below) When the two guys were working on my doors, I needed to run out. I came home to find Peter sitting at and using my computer! In addition, due the guys' not knowing how to do Bondo work, they didn't bother to put down any protection on my floors or rugs and put their tools and screws all over a brand new cabinet. For the door that they replace, they did a lousy job of painting the outside. There are distinct brush marks. There is a lot more, but I don't want to spend any more time writing this. In summary, Peter Pastor is incompetent, disorganized, has absolutely no concern for customer service or making good on his promises, cost me additional money out of pocket to get the work done by others, and, overall, his men did a lousy job. The only saving grace was one installer, who came much later (after the hardware that Peter forgot to order arrived): Raule. Do NOT EVER use Emerald Doors. read more

I had this company install cellar doors and that was my first mistake. I contacted both the owner and installer about the snow entering my basement stairs during January 2018. I heard back from both the owner and the installer at that time indicating that clearly something went wrong in the installation and that it would be addressed during the warmer weather. Since I did not hear anything about fixing the problem during the warmer weather, I reached out at least twice to the installer and once to the owner and neither have responded. My heating bill has risen and the snow entered my basement stairs. It looks as though the only way this might be remedied is through small claims court. My recommendation have someone else do the work for you. read more

We cannot put into words how irresponsible this company was to my roommate . My roommate is constantly busy and I assured him I would write this review since I was present for this unfavorable experience with this company. They literally ruined our door which was quite expensive because it is sound proof. My roommate contacted the owner of the company to inquire how he would resolve this problem, & he replied with a scathing, vulgar, disgusting childish email and we cannot wait until we see this man in court because when this email is read aloud I am sure he will be quite embarrassed. We had to spend over $2800 to replace the door they ruined (by cutting it in three different spots without our permission) but more importantly when you try and communicate with an owner of a company when their business practice goes wrong and you are responded to with a disgusting offensive email it doesn't bode well -we must say that the young lady who works for the company was so sweet and so helpful & the installer was a decent guy but he had no business cutting my roommates door without his permission because the owner of the company delivered the wrong size frame. We both read the responses to the reviews from the owner and they are apparently fabricated because we experienced so many problems AHEAD of destroying our door because there was always a delay with a "story" delay after delay after delay..... and we think it was financial and now here it is months later and he is still saying he has financial issues? There is no business in New York City that doesn't have an operating account or some financial resources to pay people back such as some of his replies indicate (and if the business doesn't they have no business being in business) and we just cannot wait to see him in court because what we have in writing from him nobody should've ever received. He should be thoroughly ashamed of himself because instead of acting like an ADULT and a businessman he acted like a child who didn't get his way!!! We attempted to reach the girl that works for him and she is now saying she doesn't work for the company anymore? We were hoping to get some help from her but that didn't happen so we have no recourse except to take this man to court. PLEASE do NOT even think about replying to our review because we don't want to hear it and I'm sure people don't want to read it but you'll have your time to speak with us soon in court. read more

Peter and John were great - Peter was responsive and thorough and easy to get a hold of and to work with. I don't think there are many other people who would take on our aging, heavy, pre-war co-op door that had totally fallen off its hinges, but Peter took a look at it, and thoughtfully figured out a solution. John is a talented handyman who did a great job on our apartment door -- he also drove three hours through a snowstorm to get to our apartment, which I thought was pretty stellar. All in all, I feel that Emerald Doors was able to save our very lovely old-fashioned door and help preserve the look of our historic 100-year-old co-op. They were recommended to me by a neighbor who is an architect, and I'm glad I listened! I'll be recommending them for sure! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE ! A TRUE NIGHMARE! It took Eddie, the installer, 5 tries/ 4 weeks to install the door correctly. Eddie kept the old door lock and the old door closure and tried to pass them as new when the contract clearly said NEW!! After I said something, he argued with me and then I called the famous Peter which then he told eddie to do it new!!! Eddie also spray painted anything that could be sprayed to pass them as new. He installed the old handrail upside down and insisted that it was the correct way to do it. He also left the entry way very dirty every time he came, he left spray residue everywhere... on the sidewalk, glass, floor... He was so unprofessional, lied, yelling at his co-worker to get things from the van and on the phone. So embarrassing! The bonus was when he swore at me and started saying bad things about my partner. DO NOT HIRE THESE IDIOTS! Yes, peter finally came on site to see the crappy work and to see the mess Eddie left. Peter did make it right but i did not have to go through all the drama for 4 weeks to get a simple door replaced. They did not apologize either. Peter was late for first appointment and seemed confused. I was asking for a cellar door installation in a backyard area. The door entry had been resized. Requested drawings or plans but never received them. None of the other contractors submitted drawings or plans. Peter provided a decent price and at the end of the day, chose Emerald Doors because they were next to the lowest price and it was a crap-shoot. The welder, Kerry, who designs the doors came back repeatedly to measure and provided the clearest plan. In the end, it cost me $400 more than expected. Both Peter and Kerry were responsive to calls and Kerry's workers were polite and mostly cleaned up except, they did not haul away concrete from the project, instead bagging it with my heavy duty bags. Fortunately, there was a work site close by and with help, we were able to deposit the hundreds of pounds of brick and concrete on the site. The door is quite nice. read more
