BEST SURF SHOP EVER! This is my local surf shop and it provides every time. Also the employees are insanely knowledgeable and talented, every time I have a question they answer with exactly what I need to hear. Elizabeth (Lizzy B) is a standout employee though. She goes above and beyond in the customer service area, is hilarious, and definitely deserves a raise. But anyways... The clothing and accessories are really great at this surf shop. Since they have such seriously cute stuff here, I'd probably be addicted if I lived in Coronado. Emerald City has some nice styles and brands. They have plenty of cute board shorts, dresses, hats, bathing suits, cover ups, footwear, cool totes, sunglasses, and even some jewelry. They also have great styles for men too. Even the displays were fun here! While the clothing is great, the service is not. With the employees standing around talking to each other, the customers were being ignored here. Most of the time, I don't mind not being offered any help. Other times, a friendly greeting might be nice. Although the service could improve here, I would definitely come back for the clothing and accessories. Recently bought a surfboard from this shop. The kid who originally helped me was great he broke down everything he knew about the board and put it on hold for me to pick up the next day. Upon returning to pick up the board which was not cheap $765.00 I had another employee helping me with the check out. After we paid for the board and traction pad I asked him for a base cost bar of wax and this guy had the nerve to ask for an additional $2.00 for the bar of wax?!? WTF? Surf shops normally hook you up with wax and sometimes a leash for your new board. I told him there was no way I was going to pay for a bar of wax when I just dropped over $800 in his store. He then replied to me well my manager is going to be mad about this. Are you kidding me? Your going to get in trouble for a bar of wax? He finally gave in a gave me the wax but not before causing a stink. The young girl in the shop told him just give it to him. Now I know to never buy another board from Emerald City and there tightwad policies. read more

Great surf shop with equipment and cute apparel on Coronado. We visited the Emerald City Surf Shop while walking around Coronado, and saw that they had a ton of apparel that I like, such as Billabong, RVCA, Volcom, etc... It's particularly nice to have this shop so close to the beach, since I saw they carry boards, other surfing and paddleboarding gear and swimsuits. I mostly was looking at the apparel they had, which they had a good selection of a lot of surf and skate brands. Price point is what you'd expect at other retail shops, but the selection here was solid for both men and women. Emerald City Surf Shop is a nice small business, located walking distance to the Coronado Beach - perfect for last-minute items you may need for the beach or just 'cause they have cute clothing! read more

Tourists beware!! This place has the worst manager. We live on Coronado and try to frequent as many of the local businesses as possible, particularly during the pandemic. In June 2021, I was given a Volcom golf shirt from my wife and after wearing it once, the shirt tore from a defect along the button line. I took the defective shirt back to this store and the manager refused to exchange it, stating it had been worn. Of course it had been worn. That's how it tore. Shirts shouldn't tear the first time they are worn. Is there an issue here? "It may have been snagged by a branch" was his response. Sure--I make a living out of returning shirts for new ones here on Coronado after I snag them on branches. The manager's response was just poor customer service. He should have simply exchanged it as defective and kept our family's business. Coronado should be wary of businesses that capitalize on selling poor merchandise and argue every return--a practice that effective preys on tourists who are important to our Island. It was a poor decision and reflects this store's attitude. BEWARE--if they sell you faulty merchandise--it's like buying it at the flea market. read more

Very impressed with the huge selection of everything for skaters, surfers and beach bunnies! The sandals collection is impressive as well as the sexy-sporty bikinis that are not easy to find in the US, no matter if this is California: most of the bikinis at a normal shop are huge, making your derriere look bigger and flatter instead of reshaping it. Here you can get if not the 'dental floss' at least something that makes you ladies look good and you will want to exercise even more to keep it up! I would say that this store is more oriented to men than women, but I don't mind shopping for cool shirts with a message but without being tacky or too childish. Good variety of sun glasses, wallets, caps, everything. The atmosphere is sporty/maritime, cool and young. And is big, which is nice as this store gets crowded, mostly due to many tourists any time of the year. Overpriced? Yes, but like most business in Coronado. Emerald City is a pearl. By the way, what about a name change? This makes me think about Seattle, not about surfing and skating town! read more

Emeral City is the place to stop in Coronado for any surf, skate, clothing and accesory needs. I love this shop, their employees and the owners are true surfers and supporters of their community. Awesome set up and feel with way more inventory than many other surf shops. I have grown up in surf shops up and down the San Diego coast and sadly the "Real" surf shops are being left to the history books to be replaced by corporate shells of what they once were. Emerald City is local owned and one of the last remaining authentic surf shops. They have plenty of staff to help out and they actually know what they are talking about! read more

I didn't really get a chance to look around the shop since from the moment we walked in the shopkeeper followed my African American partner around the store. Feeling extremely uncomfortable with the starring and following my partner left and the shopkeep proceeded to walk around and check the area to make sure nothing was taken. What an embarrassing excuse for customer service. Such a bad experience that I don't even remember what they sell. People aren't welcome here I guess. read more

Lost a bunch of weight and needed some clothes that fit. Plus, we brought the grandkids to spoil. We're locals and this is our favorite shop for beachwear. Parking is ample but it is tourist season so you might be playing parking lot roulette for a bit, you always find a spot. The shop is a storefront, but contains a huge selection of brands, styles, and sizes. The dressing rooms are convenient, roomy, and have a large full length mirror. The best part of the experience was Elizabeth! She greeted us pleasantly and stepped right up to assist us. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and personable. She juggled helping me, and my grandson, with ease and patience. The place was rocking and the vibe laid back and SoCal! read more

I've been shopping at Emerald City for 12 years but this visit was exceptional. I was trying to find gifts for my 32 year old daughter who is a surfing mom. Ellen quickly offered her assistance. I showed Ellen a couple of photos of my daughter and she instantly knew what she would like. She went out of her way to find all the sizes I needed. I came two separate times that day and Ellen was eager to help. She even taught me how to donate to CFS so I could get a discount card! Thank you Ellen for all of your help. I went in there with my family and my teenagers ready to spend and not once did we get asked if we needed help or even a Hi. The 20 min we were there my teenagers had gotten jackets and shirts and the entire time the 3 employees all very young were just chatting it up and talking to a friend of theirs that came to visit. I told my kids to put the clothes back and we left . Very disappointed and sad to see their employees were properly trained in normal customer service. Nice to see they get paid for for just talking among themselves. We will never come back here again read more

These guys were pretty awesome to let my husband get a shirt last min on 4th of july when they had been slammed all day. They were so kind as to let us come in and get a tropical shirt for my husband to wear to his reenlistment in the US Navy! He did not have time to find one (because he had been working and out to sea on the Nimitz) and when he finally got to look everyone was closing but these guys went the extra mile when they were super tired and let us get a shirt as they were closing. Do not buy a skateboard here! I bought a skateboard for $140, I took it for a short test drive after purchasing it and it had a terrible ride. I went in to return it with my receipt and the price tag still on it and they told me I could not return it because it was "already skated." The ride was terrible. Not only did I not get my money back, I did not receive store credit. They do not stand behind their products! Please do not shop here! read more

I don't know what it is or why this happens, but when I plant my feet in a surfer/skater town, I feel like I need to get down with board shorts, expensive flip flops and $80 hoodies! So I found this store, which is directly across the street from our hotel and I start trying on shorts and hoodies and thinking about which overpriced pair of flip flops I NEED!! As I am doing this, I notice that I walked in here wearing shorts and flip flops. Yes, I bought the flip flops at Marshall's for $13, but the shorts, I swear, they are from a surf shop in OB! I wanted so bad to walk out of that shop holding nothing but my cell phone, but that's not how it went. I ended up scrolling the sale rack and found a really cool pair of board shorts for like $34. So, the moral of the story being that I DON'T NEED any of this stuff, I just want it, even when I don't want it. The selection is pretty good for guys and seems much better for the ladies. The prices are very So Cal/Coronado and that's where I have an issue. I just can't see myself dropping this kinda jack on a bunch of stuff that I don't really need. But, if you are the type of person who can afford to overpay for stuff you don't really need, then this is definitely a place you will enjoy. read more

This is one of the two surf shops on Orange in Coronado. I like this surf shop better because they have a lot of merch to look at. Me and my fiancé recently have been eyeing a SUP board here. The brand that they carry is called 'body works surf.' The actual board is called the 'super natural' and its 10'6. Yesterday, I went into look at it and Bryan, the manager, came over to talk about the board with me. He was super helpful at answering my questions and was patient while making a decision about the board. I ended up purchasing the board and he took it out for me to my car and loaded it on my surf racks for me. Which wasn't an easy process...let me just say. Talk about awesome customer service! Thanks Ryan for hooking me up yesterday and helping me load the board onto my car. read more
