If I could give zero stars I would. I had the worst experience today at this shop. Coming from a retail background, I found it shocking the way I was treated by who I believe is the owner, Todd. He told my friend and I when we asked for a different size of of jeans that he didn't have any and this specific brand was for those who "know about it" LMAOOOO Talk about pretentious In retail I was taught to simply educate on the brand, not make people feel belittled. He snatched the items of clothing out of the dressing room before we could even purchase them. I guess we weren't the exact clientele he was looking for. Sucks to be a San Diego local experiencing something like this after years of coming to OB In all my experiences, I have never seen a sales associate act like a pompous A-hole like this guy today. This was by far my worse shopping experience EVER. The owner Todd was incredibly rude. He walked into my fitting room, and took a pair of jeans from me that was momentarily on the floor while I was changing out of the clothing I tried on. I really liked the jeans and was about to buy them until he made his snarky comment about them being $150 and ripped the clothing out of my hands. Btw, the jeans weren't $150 MSRP. Not a very good skate shop at all, I'm afraid. So I bought a complete with Independent hollows. But I found out that they actually gave me one hollow and one standard. So now I have one heavy truck and one light truck (gotta be the reason why my kickflips are rocketing so bad, right?). But also, the kid who assembled my deck did such a bad job with the grip tape. It's embarrassing! Seriously though, he was also so rude and unpleasant, that I'm truly not sure if he was messing with me on purpose or he was just really stupid. But my god - I wish I would have just gone somewhere else. I urge everyone to please continue to support your local surf/skate shops - it's important! But maybe go somewhere that actually cares about providing a good product to their community. read more

This is probably my favorite surf and skate shop in San Diego. I was walking around Newport Ave. by Ocean Beach. I did not know what I would stumble upon and I found this shop. I liked their curated finds, which featured much Patagonia. I found a jacket by an Orange County company called HippyTree. I had not found this company before. I think I could have gotten the jacket online cheaper. I splurged and got it for $90 or something(too much and impulsive). But this shop was well-curated with gorpcore surf and skate clothes. We went to the mall in La Jolla, which was a mistake. I just wanted a few simple items. -Hoodie NO zipper (why must every hoodie have a zipper?) -shorts -v neck t I went into this adventure with one simple hope. Not to spend an arm, leg and foot on those 3 simple items. Didn't happen at the mall, but while we were cruising OB, I thought "There must be a surf shop around here." Opened Yelp app on shiny ass phone Entered "surf shop" in the search box and just like that, boom! This place popped up with 4.5 stars. We walked over and I was looking around. Within 10 minutes, I found all three items I wanted, I found them for a reasonable cost and I was out the door with a smile on my face shortly there after. This place is awesome for so many reasons, but for me. It's not about surf boards b/c I don't surf. I don't need a wet suit b/c I don't surf, but an average Joe like me can get some cool gear without breaking the bank. That's how I end up Yelping local spots and giving them 4 star reviews. Customer service good. Hipster kid that had lots of knowledge and fun to talk to. Heard an older man yelling at a kid in the back of the store......uncomfortable. Shoes are meh, some good shirts and love the surf wax candles. Bought some thrasher stuff, beanie.......I wanted stuff the hipster kid was wearing but they did not carry. Thinking of putting up a store and selling cooler stuff with cheaper prices........watch out! Pricy but good for tourists from out of town. We stopped in to get a couple of skateboards for our girls. We were looking for a specific design for one of them- cherry blossoms. They didn't have one in stock so they found one online that looked great. We ordered it...they didn't make us pay... and when we went to pick it up, found out that Todd and his team literally tracked it down through 3 different reps and shops, calling in favors and making trades until they could get the exact deck we wanted. It took a couple of weeks but it was only through their perseverance that we got it! WOW!! That is amazing customer service that you just don't get very often anymore. This is by far the WORST skate shop I have ever been to. The owner Todd is A great guy it seems like, but I overheard him speaking with his employees in the back, completely being racist towards black people, calling them names, making fun of overly weight people that enter the store. I once asked for a pair of dunks and he basically said I was too broke. My kids have a few friends that have a worked there and they all have said how extremely disrespectful this man is. This is my favorite surf shop in all of San Diego. Not being from CA when I came out here I was determined to learn to surf. Also being a broke student, I wasn't ready to drop my book money on a board. I went all over San Diego trying to get the best deal and most people were assholes who were pissed someone wanted to learn to surf. Not at Pride. I'm a humble guy and can easily admit when I know nothing about a particular subject. I roll up into Pride and say, "Look, I don't know anything about surfing, but I want to learn." The staff was more than willing to explain EVERYTHING to me. They told me all about wetsuits, leashes, different types of boards, fins, the whole deal. They weren't trying to sell me the latest greatest board and even advised me against buying a board from their shop. They said find a used on in the Reader until you learn. That sold me right there, I found another buddy who wanted to learn to surf and we came back and bought two TDK boards and off we went. After a few successful learning years, my board broke in half, I almost cried, and back to Pride I came. Again, same great customer service and this time I got a custom designed board, which ever since has been my baby. TDK and Pride are hands down the best surf shop around. This shop is a little more under the radar than most in the area for a great reason! It's super original (unlike what one guy ^ said), you won't find them filling one half of their store with their own store brand and the other half with all the "made for mall prints" from big brands. Yeah they carry big names but they are all hand picked for the extra funky flavor that one only gets from a local shop. They have plenty of original brands and are always selling stock and ordering new designs. They have great grom (kids) clothes. I've been picking up my boys clothes there for years and people always ask my wife were she gets them. The staff is awesome by the way, extremely helpful and will take time to help you one on one, especially with surf and skate questions. No matter what level surfer you are they won't give you the bad 'LOCAL' look. I give them 5 stars because of helpfulness, uniqueness, variety of merchandise and overall consistency of qaulity service. read more

This is THE best skate shop in OB. We went there twice, first for skate shoes for my son, they were totally attentive and even showed us all the shoes they could get him in for sale price. We bought him a great pair for a very reasonable price. The second time was for new wheels for his skateboard. The owner again showed us all the options for what my son was looking for and explained the different types of hardness of the wheels, sizes, etc. Not only did he change out the wheels, but he invited my son behind the counter to install his own bearings into his new wheels. THE absolute best customer service, great selection, nicest people on the planet. Really down to earth. This experience has made my son's spring break vacation from Florida THE best EVER!!! I'm not going to lie. I don't surf or skate. I shop here from time to time to check out the sale rack and have found some pretty good finds. The bigger surf shop a few storefronts down reminds me too much of the mall, so Pride's got a boutique feel - yeah in OB. My boyfriend surfs and skates and has bought a few things from this store too. The store is well stocked, but not overwhelming. Staff is superfriendly and young, but not obnoxious. read more

A legit surf shop with nice, very knowledgeable staff...and hey, they're friendly without the surfer attitudes! Went in to buy some wax on my first visit. The owner started chatting me up and we talked about surfing for a good 30 mins. Great guy. Not only do they sell some of the big brand boards, the owner is also a well known local shaper that has been doing it for years, so eventually I had him make me a new board and I must say it kicks ass! The guy knows his stuff. As for the rest of the shop, apparel, wetsuits, lots of skate shoes and also skate decks, wheels, bearing, etc. Prices are good and the rest of the staff is super friendly. Best surf shop in OB, if not San Diego. I'm a long-time longboarder and very few surf shop, sales kids can answer anything I tend to ask. I was blown away by, not only Todd (owner and TDK shaper) but all the guys who work there and their knowledge of board vs fin. They actually talked me OUT of a new board and got me hooked on using different single fins for different conditions. No sign outside, no website, just quality equipment and sound advice from true professionals. If you're a little turned off by the surfboard-superstores, you simply gotta check out Pride. read more
