Coronado Surfing Academy staff were super responsive when I texted a question prior to our son's lesson. Sam, his instructor, explained everything super well and gave us tips on the area and what to visit (since we were here on vacation). There was construction around their normal meeting place, but the alternate directions were easy to follow. The "COOL BUS" was a dead giveaway. While our eldest was in lesson, the rest of us hung out at the beach and played in the sand. It was a very family-friendly spot. Even parking was easy! read more

This past Summer we went surfing with Coronado Surfing Academy multiple time with families and friends. We had children from 6 years old to 16 years old. Instructors were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We were in San Diego just for the day. My daughter likes to surf so we looked online for a place to get a board for a few hours. Coronado Surfing Academy responded right away to my text. Their yellow school bus was full of supplies. Everything we needed for a few hours of surfing. The beach is an easy one minute walk away. Seriously! That close. I can't believe it took me this long to try surfing and I'm so glad my first time was with Coronado Surfing Academy! We got here a couple minutes late and our instructor Cory was more than accommodating (allowing us to carry over the designated end time). We got in our wet suits and we were off to the beach! The lesson included a tutorial on the sand of how to stand on your board and into the water we went. Cory was super patient with us first timers, and was really mindful of teaching technique and gauging our skill levels. We had so much fun that we decided to come back the next morning! Hi, You will find them in a small yellow school bus near the beach or a white tent on the beach. Teaven (sp? Rhymes with Steven) is the owner of this 14 yo business. The instructors are very friendly and super patient with kids and adults who want to learn to surf. They will walk you through what you are suppose to do. Being in the water is really were it's the most fun. Warning there are sting rays. My kid got stung on the foot. Have the instructor call the life guard to come and take care of it otherwise surfing is no fun with an injured foot. My other kids loved it and wanted to go back the next day but we ran out of time. I would recommend for beginners and the location is fine if you are in San Diego to Imperial Beach. read more

Brian is the EXTRA Bomb .dot. com ! I thought he was knowledgeable, and a super trooper. The water was rough and we were all tired from the night before. Yes I would recommend this company to others. They meet right next to the crown room at Silver Strand Beach by Hotel del Coronado. It's less expensive than using the del's surf instructor which is about $150 per person. It's not crowded with other surfers which is excellent. If you sign up with more people then the rate goes down. The rate includes about 2hrs of wave time, wet suit rental, and board rental. Careful not to get stung by Sting Rays that will shank your a** if your not vigilant and careful. We would definitely use them again when people are in town that haven't surfed or we want to use the boards. read more

We have vacationed in Coronado for several summers and one of the reasons is Coronado Surfing Academy! The first time we signed up, we happened upon the school bus and spoke with the owner. My girls had been asking for surf lessons, but everything was too expensive and complicated. At CSA, everything is provided and he signed us up on the spot. The lessons were very affordable, the instructors were awesome and my girls actually surfed!! After that experience, we made reservations for lessons any time we have visited Coronado. CSA is the best surfing lesson option available - it's easy to sign up and they have great customer service. Most importantly, they teach people of all ages the basic techniques of how to surf safely. I highly, highly recommend CSA!! read more

Our kids have never had any surfing lessons before, this was their first time trying it. My 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter were beyond happy to have been introduced to surfing. We were only in San Diego for a couple of days, we purchased the 3 or 4 hour one day camp for them. At first I was a little nervous to leave them at the beach with complete strangers but from the very beginning they did reassure us that they will always have an adult next to them , also I felt a lot more comfortable when they were assigned to one adult for both of them. I really wish I remembered his name because he was awesome with them very friendly. He worked so well with them . We will definitely sign up our kids again when we're out there again. The folks working at the academy have nothing but fantastic. My wife and I took a lesson at the same time as my 8 year old. They had us up and surfing and having fun in no time. The instructors were good and did their job and I expected a good morning but it was totally the opposite. The "manager" at the tent running the program was unprofessional, uncaring and flat out lied to me. One of his young instructors got a stingray bite but the manager couldn't care less. As I walked with her to be tent, she asked that s lifeguard be notified but he couldn't care less, didn't ask how she was doing or even look at her or the wound. There was a particularly high number of stingrays on this day as the lifeguards were announcing for everyone to be careful and did he shuffle walk into the water. One of the other parents pulled her child out of class. I noticed she had booties on and she said the manager gave it to them. I made the walk back and he lied to me saying they brought their own. When I confronted him, he started making up a story saying it was in the van from someone who killed herself. I don't she how this is appropriate in any shape or manner around kids. We were also supposed to pay $60 for a 90 minute lesson but they brought in my child after 60 minutes. The manager tried to get me to pay $60 but I pointed out it's unfair to pay full price for 2/3 the agreed upon time and I insisted on paying $40. He also rudely insisted on cash only, so this company must be evading taxes as well. Please go anywhere else but here to surf lessons. There are multiple places in Coronado along the board walk who can give surf lessons. Addendum : The Lowe Resort called the owner and they refunded our money. read more

I was so happy that I could find a place within a reasonable budget ($80 for a private lessons 1.5 hours) , minutes from my home and that was willing to teach me to surf in February! (most places kept telling me to wait until at least spring...) Teevan answered all my questions and was very helpful and Tyler taught me the actual surfing part (best instructor ever!!!!)
