The PTA here is great and works really well with the school to help out students and to throw really fun events. The only thing that is a bummer is pick ups and drop off. His teachers have been wonderful, and I really appreciate having two teachers in each classroom. But what I love most is how personal the whole school feels. His teachers, staff, administrators, and coaches know him by name, and he has made some really wonderful friendships. He truly feels like he belongs there. Something I honestly didn't think much about when we were choosing a school, but now appreciate SO much, is the expectation that parents are involved in their kids' education. There is a real partnership between the school, teachers, and parents. Knowing what your child is working on, reading with them, practicing at home, and being involved is just part of the culture, and I didn't realize how much I would value that until we experienced it. And he gets to have fun too! He LOVES his enrichment classes. From the moment our family became part of the Legacy community, it has felt like so much more than just a school. It truly feels like a family. The teachers genuinely know, love, and care for their students. They are intentional about helping each child grow not only academically, but also in their character, confidence, and faith. I'm continually grateful for the way our girls are encouraged, challenged, supported, and prayed for by the people who pour into them each day. One of the things I appreciate most about Legacy is the strong sense of community. There are so many opportunities for students and families to get involved, whether through athletics, fine arts, student leadership, chapel, service, or school events. There is a real effort to make every student feel known and included and to create experiences and memories that extend far beyond the classroom. I also love that faith isn't treated as something separate from the school day. Biblical truth is woven into the culture of the school, and students are encouraged to grow in their relationship with Christ while learning what it looks like to lead, serve, show kindness, and care for others. After seeing firsthand what it looks like when your child isn't thriving at school, we don't take for granted what we have found at Legacy. Such a refreshing, reaffirming environment that allows young people to develop and thrive - not crush their natural curiosity and imagination with relentless messages on conformity. And, amazingly, this public charter school with an incredible curriculum is free! Transferring from a nightmare experience in 7th grade at Rio Norte - where everything is structured to the teacher's benefit, the volume of 'busy work' worksheets assigned daily is mind-numbing, and the default attitude is one of distrust - to the amazing project-based learning and integrated curriculum of SCVi was truly the answer to my prayers for my thoughtful, intelligent son. He had left elementary school as a confident, straight A student who benefited from the school's GATE program for 3 years, but after 1 year at Rio Norte Jr High, being brow-beaten and told by his teachers he was just lazy and not as smart as he thought, his spirit was crushed and he had become hopeless about school. SCVi turned all that around. The transition was a little rocky for him, as he was leaving his friends behind, but the staff and fellow students at SCVi worked hard at making him feel welcome and his contributions were once again valued. By the end of 8th grade, his confidence had returned, as well as his grades, and he'd even stepped into a leadership role in the epic Civil War Re-Enactment capstone project that is a tradition at SCVi. Without SCVi, the path for my gifted 13 year old son could have turned out very badly indeed. He's continued to develop and thrive there through high school, benefited from IB classes and theater, and will graduate next month as a poised, confident young man with broad knowledge and critical life skills. If you are not in the main popular friend group, you most likely cant talk to anyone. You'll also most likely be bullied if you don't like whatever the popular kids like, and people always beat each other up, and they do the most minimal punishments. I heard someone who caused a ton of people to bully someone else only got 1 day of ISS for doing that. So yea, i totally recommend not going here
