The Embassy Cafe has been an icon in Melbourne for as long as I can dare to remember.
Largely unchanged over the last 30 odd years that I have been going there, there is now a rather large alfresco area tacked on to the front.
You don't go to the Embassy Cafe for ambience, Choi cafe lattes, free wifi or the scenery. You go to Embassy Cafe because they make the best damn hamburgers in Melbourne.
Whilst I haven't eaten in every hamburger joint in Melbourne I can tell you I am somewhat of a burger aficionado and the other don't come close.
It's not only about the quality, it's about the consistency over a great many years. You can rock up here at lunchtime on a Sunday or 3.00am on a weeknight and get the same juicy, delicious burger every time.
The menu has a number of cafe style dishes however for me it's about the burgers or the occasional steak sandwich. Incidentally, the steak in the steak sandwich is tender steak you can bite through without having to shake your head from side to side like a rabid dog as you do with some others.
The service is always friendly and accommodating and everyone is made to feel welcome.
if you want to eat a burger how a burger should be, do yourself a favour and go to the Embassy Cafe. read more
