Cooper the cat is doing awesome. He's fully recovered, no longer mad at me for having the better part of his manhood chopped off. AustinDude X. -- as far as i know, emancipet doesn't write prescriptions at all, ever, for anyone. They offer a handful of basic medications that you're able to buy directly from them when you have your pet spayed or neutered. They're not a vet office, they're a non-profit day-clinic. Also, best sentence ever on Yelp: "why do feel I am not intelligent enough to figure this out for myself?" read more

I love my dog. Like, one of those weirdos who really really loves their dog maybe too much. Since quality and price so frequently go hand-in-hand when it comes to services, I took the gentleman to Austin Urban Vet for his first few visits. After a few disappointing experiences (and several hundred dollars later), I came here. The very kind and competent vet was completely honest about which tests/procedures needed to be done and what would be a waste of money. The vet figured out what was wrong with my little sea cow (where 3 others failed). I spent $63 total, including 12 mo. of heartworm meds (about 1/3 of what I spent per visit at other vets)! Also convenient you can get monster's nails trimmed there too, as last time I went to Dirty Dog they couldn't even hold my 23# manatee of a dog sturdy enough for a steady trim. oh PS - if only 4.5 stars were possible... but alas you can't have 5 because I can't have an appointment. read more

Absolutely amazing! The staff is so kind and you can really tell they love their jobs and know what they're doing. They couldn't get enough of my little kitten Puddles! The place is very clean and nice looking, easy to get to, lots of parking. The prices are AMAZING, so cheap but still high quality! There can be a wait, but trust me, it's completely worth it. Highly recommend this place!! read more

Emancipet had a husband and wife vet doing dental extractions on location off Cameron Rd and they advised 14 teeth extractions on my 9 lb. Chihuahua. I didn't know better than to ask second opinion but regardless my dog suffered and was never the same. To this day I have guilt in trusting emancipet. They claim to be low cost but charge for everything and I feel they are not sincere. Would never recommend read more

I've been taking my dog Orly here since I adopted her in 2012. The staff is always friendly, the care is affordable, and I love the discounted pet meds! I love supporting organizations with such a great cause! The only inconvenient part is how long you have to wait to see the vet. A few weeks ago, I was there for nearly 3 hours before being called back to see the doctor for a routine visit. Thankfully, my dog is a happy camper no matter the situation, but it gets a little rough listening to other dogs bark continuously for hours on end. ;) Still though, I love this place.. and so does my sweet pup! We will continue to support Emancipet! read more

When my roommate and I took in a pup abandoned on a friend's property, we brought him to Emancipet. We didn't exactly have plans of adopting a dog anytime soon, so it was such a relief to have Emancipet's affordable services. The staff was super helpful and answered about a hundred questions we had. Emancipet took care of checking him for a chip (to make sure he wasn't ju We've had the little guy for about six months now, and he's healthy as can be. Such a great place! read more

My wait was about an hour. There were a lot of people and the staff did a great job of keeping things moving. I paid about half what I would pay with a traditional vet and my doctor was great with my dog!! It's an awesome value if you have a little time to wait. The also take donations if you have more to give! Thank you Emancipet for helping people get affordable veterinarian care! read more

This place is amazing. The people are amazing, I encourage anyone who needs low-cost options for vet care to visit here. And to tell everyone else they know. They have spayed two of my dogs along with the full blood workups and microchip. The cost is unbeatable, you might have to wait a bit of time when dropping off for a spay or neuter, but take a look around you when you're waiting. Realizing there are a lot of people behind the scenes that are going to take good care of all those pets is heartwarming. **small tip: if you've never been and your pet needs a tag, get it there! They engrave and it's like $3 compared to $7 at PetCo.. read more

Went by here yesterday, Wednesday 3/19/2014 and only had to wait about 5 minutes. My pup, Baxter needed his rabies shot, a nail trim (in my opinion) and I opted to have them run a heartworm test as well. My dog was a little miserable at first, but I think he just felt bamboozled. He usually rides in the car when going to the park or out for ice cream and much to his dismay, Emancipet was neither. Everyone I came across was really nice and understanding of his behavior. They did not trim his nails since he was stressed out and they were not that long yet anyway. Overall, it was a great experience. I highly recommend you take your pet here for excellent and affordable care! read more

Great place for low-cost vaccinations, flea preventatives, heart-worm preventatives, spay/neuter and micro-chipping. They suggest you still maintain a relationship with a veterinarian because they offer very limited services. They also sometimes offer free services to customers who live in certain zip-codes. They offered to micro-chip one of my dogs free of charge because I lived in a certain area and I think it was only $15 if you paid their full price. They only serve spay and neutered animals or puppies who are too young to be fixed. The place is nothing fancy, but it serves its purpose and serves it well. I have never waited long when I have just walked in for vaccinations. Check their website and/or call ahead for these times as they may change. read more

Being able to keep our furry friends vaccinated while we're struggling to pay off an emergency canine surgery and a massive tax bill all while underemployed is a godsend. Thank you for being a friend, Emancipet. read more

I'm so happy someone told me about this place. Emancipet is the bomb diggity if you have a puppy. Super low rates for spaying/neutering, plus cheap meds for heart worm prevention, flea/tick, etc. Like why go to an expensive vet? The people here are so nice, professional, very accommodating, and it's right next to the animal shelter so you can go check in and visit all the animals. Also, kudos to all the great sign placement when you pull in. I get lost easily and it was great not having to wonder how to get here. I don't know if every city has a place like this, but having it in Austin is amazing. read more

This is an absolute amazing place to get your pet fixed. They will spay and neuter your pet for cheap. Plus they also go to areas around Austin with their mobile unit. I recommend getting your pet spayed and neutered, and there is no better place for people on a budget. read more

When I took in a stray last week, a friend of mine who does a lot of animal rescue and fostering recommended that I bring him to Emancipet for his neuter and vaccinations. For my last rescue, I used Animal Trustees of Austin, which was fine, but since my friend strongly recommended Emancipet, I decided to give them a try this time. I emailed Emancipet on Monday morning to request a neuter appointment, and they emailed me back same day with an appointment for Wednesday. I was surprised at how quickly they were able to get me in; I'm used to low-cost clinics being booked farther in advance because of client volume, so I was very pleased. On Wednesday morning, at drop-off time, the place was PACKED (mostly with dogs, but none of them were out of control, and there are hooks all around the room to secure leashes to), but the wait time was only about 30 minutes. The staff was very friendly and let me add on all the other services I needed (FeLV/FIV test, all vaccinations, deworm, flea treatment, pre-op blood work). The facility is located in a pair of trailers, but is very clean, and the decor is pleasant, if heavily dog-centric. There is some construction going on there right now, which further limits the already-inadequate (for peak times, anyway, like neuter drop-off/pick-up) parking, so I hope what is being constructed includes more parking spaces. When I picked up my cat at 5:00 PM, the staff assembled the whole group of pet parents and went over the post-op care instructions in detail, lecture style. I waited about 30 minutes to get my cat back, but for a low-cost clinic, they are very well-organized. My final bill for the neuter, shots, tests/blood work, flea treatment and dewormer was $126, and you can't beat that. The staff commented on how cute and well-behaved my cat is (he really is), and they sent us home with a cute personalized tag with his rabies shot info on the back. Today, mid-morning, my cat started acting really lethargic, and I couldn't tell if something was wrong or if he was just uncomfortable and depressed about wearing his Cone of Shame, so I took him back to Emancipet around 11:45 AM to have them check him out. It's free to have your pet examined if anything is wrong post-op, and I felt that the staff took my concerns seriously. It turned out that nothing was wrong, and he has perked back up since then. I got an extra day's worth of pain meds for him for $3. Also, mid-day, the place is relatively empty, has more available parking, and not too much wait time inside. Overall, I definitely recommend Emancipet, and I would go so far as to say I prefer them over ATA, though ATA did a perfectly good job spaying another of my cats 3 years ago. I think Emancipet dedicates a little more time and attention to explaining things to the client. I didn't feel like I was being treated like a second-class citizen for being at a low-cost clinic, and I'm glad not to pay a lot more money to have my regular vet perform the same services. read more

Just wanted to say a word about the man with the clipboard. Every time Emancipet goes offsite somebody has to work the parking lot. That man is Delwin Goss, he takes names , tries to keep order and facilitates the animals smooth service. I am not sure how many years he has done it but he is there from 6am to 8 am every morning that he is needed as a VOLUNTEER ! Thanks for being a big link in the chain !!!!! read more

$120 for spaying a 100+lb Great Dane, pre-surgery lab work, extra pain meds, cone of shame and microchipping. Hard to beat. The whole process was very easy. We had zero complications. The office can be a little tricky to locate, but once you find it it's simple. The technicians are very nice and knowledgable. If you have an animal that has a hard time being in confined spaces with a TON of other cats and dogs, the drop-off process might be tough. My Dane is very shy and was really overwhelmed being stuck in a tiny room with literally 30 other animals. I tried to get them to not administer the tattoo on her belly showing she's been spayed, but was told it's now a law, so didn't fight it as they said it would just be a tiny blue dot somewhere inconspicuous. They actually tattoo'd a huge green line down the middle of her belly - like 3 inches long! It's super ugly and super obvious. Really hate it, but it's cosmetic. read more

I have taken my pup here since I got her 2 years ago. I love coming here, it's affordable and the staff is usually super sweet to me and my pup. I called today because I wanted to see if I needed my doggie's records transferred to the Cameron Rd. location since it's closer to where I live. The woman who answered the phone (who I later found out is named Kim) was pretty rude) and acted like anyone should know that their databases are connected so I dont have to have anything transferred. I just called to ask a question and I got attitude! Hopefully, the staff at the Cameron Rd. office is a little nicer! read more

The vets and techs are all wonderful as are the fees. Have had great experiences there in the past - with 5 rescue dogs, I need all the help I can get for vaccinations and preventative medication. Reason for 3 stars is that the front desk clerk is not completely clear or helpful about a few things when there is a wait so here is my advice: 1) do not leave the property when there is a wait unless you can't stay that long. She'll tell you they'll text you 15 minutes before they're ready for you... 2) if you are within the 15 minutes from the time you received the text, go tell her you got the text and don't leave until you confirm with her...you could get lost in the mix 3) if you can/do not arrive within the 15 minutes after you receive the text, you go to the bottom of the line (again...) but you still have to tell her you're back I didn't understand this and arrived 30 minutes after the text (after driving back and forth twice) so don't make the same mistake. read more

Perfect. Very clear about what the process is. If your going to be dropping off a pet, make sure you get there as early as you can and pay attention to what order vehicles arrive (until the ref can get there). I got there two hours early and there were six or seven vehicles there before me. Most of those vehicles had more than one pet in them. They can only take so many full grown large breed dogs. Most of the people I saw had puppies. A little bit of waiting while they get the job done. With the two cones, meds, and optional add-ons I paid about $75.00 for two male dogs. I wouldn't have been able to afford the same services they provided at my regular vet. I was/am very grateful that they provide this service. read more

They are awesome. Tests, shots, heartworm meds - all at a far lower cost. You have to go and wait a long time. I suggest going before they open and getting on their list immediately as they begin business. Our last visit took about 20 minutes when I did that. Low cost and affordable pet care -- I recommend them highly. read more

I support this very worthy cause... but... Make sure you go to a mobile clinic and not to the permanent location if you need to get your animals the free rabies shots. Although I was in the supposedly FREE zipcode, they charged me the $33 for the dogs, plus $5 each for bringing them in. Usually it wouldn't be a big deal, as that is a great price. But I was on disability at the time, and I had come in specifically to Emancipet because I could NOT afford their shots at the time on such a limited income. They need to be up-front about this and take down the sign in the waiting room that advertises the FREE ZIPCODES if they aren't going to honor it there! read more

Took my dog Tex in to get fixed and this was the easiest way to do it. The staff was great and Tex is fine. I would highly recommend this service. It's cost effective and these people do this out of their love for animals. Everyone get your animals fixed! There are to many "cute" puppies and kittens that grow up to be backyard dogs or outside cats that populate the area! read more

I have taken our 20 month old boxer/terrier mix to Emancipet twice and have had a great experience both times! The staff is so friendly, welcoming and helpful. They truly care about your pet and while being efficient, they also will take a few minutes to chat with you about any concerns and offer comforting advice. The only reason why it isn't a 5-star review is that I wish they took appointments. The wait times have been 1-2 hours (even getting there before they open). I also wish they fenced in the yard area a bit so you could let your dog off the leash while waiting (it gets hard to entertain them that whole time - lots of stimulation with other pets and people in and out). read more

Great service, once you enter, very welcoming, friendly staff. Recommend this place to everyone!

Just really want to shout out this location, we dropped off our baby girl DD for a spay and the staff was just fantastic. It's never easy leaving your pet anywhere much less leaving them for surgery, but David, Chris, DeeDee, and Kristen (forgive me if the spellings are wrong) made us feel so comfortable. Our girl is also not very keen on strangers and you could just tell she was nervous as we walked away but when we came back to pick her up she was so happy her tail looked like it was gunna wag right off, and not just cuz we were there, the whole staff just loved on her and she was actually all for it! They definitely know how to handle animals and treat them with so much kindness and respect. We will definitely be going back here for the rest of her vaccinations. read more

Arrived at ten AM. Home at 1:45. The last time I was treated like this was at the DMV, before they understood their error of ways, and began offering appointment times. This is just plain abusive. I was prepared for a wait, in order to get the heartworm test, nail trip, and vaccinations. But shuffled to three wait lines, is not fair or reasonable. The check in, in the hot sun.... an hour. Then in my car for an hour and 1/2. Then called into another line, waiting outside the door to be seen. The worst part was that they told me they were not able to do the heartworm test or the nail trim, due to my dog's anxiety. I offered up some immediate and quick solutions to the problem,(Simply, Me standing next to my dog, in any environment.. lobby, outside anywhere) but no, they insisted that I come back later for the heart worm test. Completely insane that they would not listen to reason and work with me a tiny bit. Note: We are past the restrictions for Covid19. I had my surgery two weeks ago. We have had our teeth cleaned. We have been to the malls where the majority of people are not wearing masks, We have been out to restaurants. It is just ridiculous that I can not hold my dog with my mask on while the vet or vet tech quickly obtains a blood sample. People who will not even allow themselves to think out of the box to solve a simple problem. All of this, after a nearly three hour wait. The wait is disrespectful to all of us. Do what the DMV does, and have some sort of system that ensures an hour or less wait. read more

I would give them five stars but I had a bad experience with them and waiting in the long line was not worth it .... I have a cat named Gaia I took her yesterday Wednesday 20th to get her spayed. When I was picking her up and processing my payment they handed me back my Gaia and told me to lock her in a dark room and let her come out by herself because she was apparently being aggressive..... my cat is never aggressive at home she is so sweet and very friendly even to guest when they come over. so they must have did something to her to make her feel that way. And no I did not put her in a dark room because I didn't feel that was necessary because when she got home she was totally fine a little out of it being she was still on the drugs they gave her. And I was just looking at her because I felt bad for her she looked sad and as I was looking at her and noticed that on her face she had two marks that were not there before I dropped her off with them .... there was a slight big red mark above her face and a tiny one above her eye shown in the pictures above .... if I have any more animals fixed I will NOT go to this location again . read more

This is a review for the Kyle spay/neuter mobile unit: I took my 4.5 month old male and female kittens to get them spayed and neutered at the Kyle mobile clinic. The staff was super friendly and they reassured me that my kittens would be well taken care of. They also called me 2 hours earlier than they estimated so I could pick up my loopy babies. They're now healed and happy and I couldn't be more ecstatic with this low cost option. Thank you! The only thing that could have been better was more cover. The day I went was unfortunately bad weather and very cold! read more

I would give Emancipet a negative number if available. I took my two cocker spaniels in for neutering. One was bleeding badly when I picked him up. They took him back in and wrapped the wound. I was told bleeding would stop by the time I got home. My dog was in a lot of pain. I took him to my vet and he said the surgery was botched. Visited the Vet 3 times over next 6 days. After 15 days, he is starting to recover. I would not recommend taking a dog, cat, etc. back to Emancipet read more

I took my 3 1/2 year old bullmastiff mix to another low cost vet where I got all her shots and asked for a quote to get her spayed. Welp, the next day I saw Emancipet in the St. Johns Parking Lot at about 5pm. I asked one of the techs about the anesthesia, procedure and pain meds. I also told her I was nervous to bring her, as she is not friendly with other dogs. She assured me, all pets are kept separated and they will take extra caution with her. Also, she informed me its FREE! to Travis county residents. Needless to say, I took her to the parking lot at 7:30 (it advises you to come at 6, but this was a Wednesday so we ended up getting in), signed some paperwork and they got her in the truck at 8:15am. I'm saving $350 to get her spayed, so I really recommend giving them a donation. They also micro chipped her for free and have a ton of other services you can receive for a low price. I'm super impressed, they do professional work and are super knowledgeable. Will return in the future if I need more services (: read more

I love my dog. At home, he's a sweet, gentle, funny little guy. But he transforms into a total monster at any vet's office. He'll try to murder everyone, starting with the receptionist, moving on to the vet techs, then finally the vet. Of course, we muzzle him, so nobody actually gets hurt (though I'm not sure how much damage an 11 pound bichon frise with bad teeth could possibly inflict), but it's still like a scene from a horror movie, the way he thrashes around wildly and makes otherworldly sounds. It would be funny if it weren't terrifying. So from my perspective, the best thing about Emancipet isn't the low prices or the friendliness of the people who work there, though those are definitely great things. It's that they take the wicked beast into some room in the back, stick the requisite shots in him and clip his toenails, they're done in an almost implausibly short amount of time, and I don't have to witness ANY of this. Amazing. read more
