We hired Elwood's to trim up a large Maple tree that was pretty much needing a major face lift, they did such a fantastic job that I am looking at some other trees to have them work on! I've been using Elwood's for the past 18 years and have been satisfied with their work - I am still satisfied with their work, however, I am not satisfied with the level of customer service when you call in. A little background, last year I had Elwood's do some pruning on fruit trees, which was fine. However, when my plum tree bloomed after this year (it's an old tree) it has leaves that are wrinkled and not healthy looking. Typically the fruit on the tree is plentiful but not this year and what is on the tree has brown spots on them. So I called Elwood's (as they are arborists) and asked if someone could come out and look at the tree and tell me whether or not it was diseased. I was put on hold. "Donna" came on the line to rudely tell me that they don't spray trees. I explained that I did not ask for spraying but for someone to tell me if the tree is sick or not. She reiterated that they do not spray trees and hung up the phone. I called back to express the way I felt about the call and how rude Donna was. I actually spoke to her directly and she did not think she was rude. Well if the customer calls back to tell you about your rudeness, then you are being rude! She finally said, "fine, I will have Elwood call you so he can put you on his schedule". That's ok with me, but this woman either needs a serious vacation or needs to get off the phones. I'll continue to use Elwood's for my tree service as I believe they are a good company that does stellar work. But the rudeness of the person answering the telephone really needs to be addressed. read more

Do not hire Elwood. My mother called them to get a bid to remove a tree that had been damaged during this winter's ice storm. The receptionist asked my mother if she was getting other bids for the job. My mother said yes, because that's common practice when you are having work done on your home. You get multiple bids. Once the receptionist learned this she refused to send someone out to give a bid. She said "if you are shopping around we aren't interested." and my mother was a precious client! Elwood has done services for her before. So after this frustrating and rude exchange with the receptionist my mom decided to try to get ahold of someone else at the company to get her tree removed by sending Elwood an email through their website. And guess what happened... the same rude receptionist called my mom and said "did you just send an email? I already told you we weren't interested. We are not coming out." I Would highly recommend not using these guys. read more

Got a quote. Accepted said quote. Made date and time for services. Confirmed three days before. Day of ... I stay home from work as they "will be there" at 8am. Not. 8:30am ... not. 9:00am ... not. 9:30am ... not. 10:00am ... nope. So I call ... "We've been busy and will get to you later, yours is a small job. Can't say specifically when." I expressed my dissatisfaction in that I was waiting for them. She told me they are in "the customer service business" and that things happen. Well, guess what, Elwood's Tree Service ... I AM a customer and you extended NO service. Not a call, nothing. Boom. I cancelled the appt. and will be giving my "small job" $600 business to another local business. read more

Let me tell you - there is a HUGE difference between having a team of skilled arborists work on your tree that you want to save, and a truck full of tree hackers with chainsaws! We have a massive red maple in our back yard that provides us so much shade. It's beautiful! We've been afraid of losing it over the past several years because of its size, but Elwood's wants to save trees more than they want to take them down. And they know how to do it! We had the top third of the tree cabled and thinned a few years back. The tree filled back in nicely. This year, we knew we needed it looked at again so we don't lose it. Will and his crew came in and performed an "aggressive" thinning job to balance the tree out and get the weight off of the top. They thinned out a lot of tree but you can barely tell they were in there! Amazing!! There really is a proper way to thin/prune a tree. You may save some money by having a truck full of tree hackers come and work on your trees, but the damage they may cause by not doing it correctly, will cost you down the road. Elwood's advertises mowing services. If you are looking for someone who is dependable and forthright keep looking. A mowing contract was signed in the first part of August. We were told that our field would be mowed around the end of the month. It wasn't. After several calls, we were finally told that because of dry conditions and a vacation the job would be done at the end of September. It wasn't. Finally we were told that the mowing would take place on October 4th. We got a call on October 3 saying something had come up and the October 4th date was cancelled. After a few more calls we were told Elwood would call on October 13th to reschedule. He didn't. We are now in November and have yet to hear from anyone. read more

She is handicap and when I asked them if they would dump their chips from the job they were doing they were ore than willing to do it for free.
