We came here for a friends birthday on a Saturday night. We were seated right away and greeted by our waitress. I ordered the ceviche and enchiladas, along with a cocktail. The food was just okay, but the drink was really good and strong. We loved all the decor and vibes of this spot, but unfortunately the food didn't really stand out to us.

Another fun happy hour at Elvira's! Just tacos this time, no appetizers. Got a picture of new cocktails this time, too! This was a good experience, however we did feel a bit neglected sitting at the end of the bar on a Friday at 5. Bartenders were very busy, it was hard to get drink orders placed. This is your profit center, so it should be top priority. Food order came out quickly, but bartenders never followed up to see how it was. We weren't even sure who was really responsible for our seats. Eventually we flagged someone down to order more food and drinks. Still can't get enough of the shrimp tacos, short rib is also excellent. Cocktail menu on happy hour includes the road to Jalisco, and a beautiful pomegranate lemon drop. Always a pleasure to dine in this gorgeous restaurant.

Elvira's is located in DC Ranch, which is a cute little shopping area in north Scottsdale near Cave Creek. I came here for a bachelorette dinner with a group of girls and we were seated at a high top table in the main dining room. I'm not gonna lie - after reading the reviews - I took a sigh of relief that we weren't seated upstairs because that steep stairwell is a bit intimidating. Stairs + stilettos = equals disaster waiting to happen. I'd be shocked if someone hasn't taken a tumble down those stairs before because man are they steep! Thankfully we were seated on the main level at a high top table so we didn't have to face those steps! Our waiter really tried to be kind and welcoming but I will say I was a bit underwhelmed with the energy in the restaurant. The music was okay but just generally the vibe wasn't super exciting - but also DC Ranch tends to be a more mature crowd. As for the food, although I didn't realize my shrimp tacos would be two fried shrimp with a mango salsa wrapped in a jicama based tortillas, it was actually pretty flavorful and even had a little tiny bite to it. The guacamole was pretty good and the watermelon cojita salad definitely wasn't aesthetic but was tasty. One thing we noticed is they were definitely very generous with the cheese on all dishes and the salads were covered in The ambiance with the entry table full of candles, cool chandeliers and dim lighting were all very nice.

Had the most incredible experience at Elvira's DC Ranch -- everything from start to finish was absolutely top-tier. The food was not only beautifully presented but packed with flavor in every bite. You can tell there's so much thought and quality behind each dish. The ambiance is just as impressive -- warm, stylish, and elevated without feeling overdone. It's the kind of place that feels perfect for anything from a special occasion to a really great night out. And the service? Truly exceptional. Attentive, welcoming, and genuinely made the whole experience feel personalized and seamless. This is one of those spots you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommend if you're looking for an all-around amazing dining experience.

Came here for a birthday dinner and had a great time! Ambience is very trendy and elegant at the same time. We were a party of 7 and our waiter was so attentive, kind and quick. The food didn't disappoint either. I would suggest their molcajetes!! A delicious meal for sure. Someone in our party got the Ahi tostada and that one could've used a little more salt and citrus. Otherwise, all around 10/10. They made sure are all meats were at the correct temperature and made it as ordered. Also a table was super kind and got us the churro donut dessert and we owe them a huge thank you because it was delicious! They serve it with a chocolate sauce that taste so close to the abuelita hot chocolate. The flan was also good just not for us because we didn't realize the grated cheese that it came with. Would definitely visit again!!

First of all, Elvira's is a gorgeous restaurant. It can be a little hard to find but once you turn off the road, you'll see the center that it's in is really pretty. when you first walk in there is a table filled with huge candles - - it's gorgeous! There are some sequined luchador masks next to the hostess desk, and wonderful punched tin lamps hanging from the ceiling. They're also some lit glass hanging from the ceiling which look amazing. The very long red velvet drapes add to the ambiance. Up the stairs in the mezzanine there are tufted banquettes with pillows, and some tables. Gorgeous mirrors hang on one wall, and on the other wall are large pictures of ruchadors with just their face lit up - - very cool! There's a small catwalk with one table at the end. There's a small bar upstairs and a larger bar downstairs. You were greeted by the very friendly hostess and taking upstairs to our table immediately. Our server was fantastic offering lots of suggestions. He was very attentive. We ordered: *Xalisco Margarita *Modelo Especial *Tequila Queso Fundido *Red Snapper Vera Cruz *Flank Steak Molcajete Everything was delicious, and presented beautifully. The queso was real cheese, not the typical cheese sauce, and the flank steak was draped over a hot stone bowl to continue cooking. Hubby said the flavor of the fish alone was fantastic, and even better with the sauce. This is definitely on the higher end for Mexican food, but definitely worth it.

I visited Elvira's for a friend's birthday dinner. Upon walking in the atmosphere was a little brighter than we expected. We thought that it would be a bit more moody but that wasn't the case. The staff was very accommodating to our party and allowed us to bring a cake and place cards for the table. The food was decent for me. I ordered my steak medium rare but it was mixed up with someone else's at the table who ordered a medium. My medium rare steak looked really good on their plate though! Lol. The medium steak I had was okay but I don't care for medium cooked steaks therefore it was just okay. To drink I had a Mezcaliente. I wouldn't make the drive all the way from the West side of town to come here but I wouldn't come back for an event. I feel this place is worth a try.

What an absolutely gorgeous restaurant! We visited Elvira's for a friend's birthday, had a reservation for 8 and our table was waiting on us. They did have us upstairs, which was fine for our group but if you have mobility issues be sure to reserve downstairs seating. The ambiance here is stunning. I know I mentioned that first sentence but it's worth saying twice. They have a good variety of options on their menu for both drinks and food. I ordered the Tamarindo Margarita, which was strong and delish! We had a couple appetizers for the table; guacamole w/ chips & salsa and the Maitake Queso Fundido. Both were great and complimented each other well. Definitely enough for our group portion wise. For my main I went with the Chili Relleno w rice & beans. It was a hard choice! They have 6 different types of mole and I love me some mole, but I also love a Chili Relleno. Our server Jordan was telling us his favorite things he mentioned the Chili Relleno was the best he's ever had. So I went with it! Was it the best I've ever had? No. But it was pretty incredible. The sauce is delicious. I really just wanted more of a fluff around my chili. I get it's made all different ways and this was super good just lacked a little fluff for me. I loved their refried beans and I'm a bean snob. Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their food, as well. For dessert they let the birthday girl choose any dessert for free, which I thought was nice. They even arrived to the table with an elegant lit candle for her. The service here is great and Jordan took good care of us. If you are looking for an upscale Mexican restaurant definitely check out Elvira's!

The wife and I were looking for an upscale experience for a Friday date night and decided to give Elvira's a try. The initial impression walking in the door was great. The lighting and design is well crafted, giving off a unique blend of a dark gothic type vibe with odes to Mexican culture. When we were seated we noticed right away that the tables were arranged a bit closer to other tables than most high-end restaurants and the place was packed, so it was a bit loud. To start things off the wife had a blueberry lemon drop which she thought was just "ok" but what I really liked and thought was refreshing. I had the Mezcaliente (margarita made with Mezcal) which I enjoyed as a fab of Mezcal. The highlight of the dining experience was the Nopales, Mango and Jimaca salad, which we ordered and shared as an appetizer. It was vibrant, refreshing and flavorful and gave us a sense of a true dish you'd enjoy dining in the Yucatán (which we've done many times). It was one of the best salads we've had in recent memory. For main course my wife had the Caribbean Pineapple Halibut and I had the Shrimp Vallarta. The Halibut was good--not necessarily great, and seemed to be missing a sauce or some type of ingredient to really bring out a flavor in the dish. The Shrimp Vallarta was a solid selection for me as a shrimp lover. The shrimp were flavorful and firm and the arroz had a nice blend of fresh cut jalapeños and spices for zest and flair. On the whole the experience at Elvira's was good, but for the money and other exceptional options at that same price level, the experience wasn't great. We hoped for something a bit more romantic based on the photos on the website and the close proximity to others and loudness didn't really generate that vibe we had hope for. The service was great but the food, like the overall experience, was good but not great on the whole.

The ambience is pretty cool. The service was very good. The menu has a very unique feel to it with a lot of unique dishes. Everything that we ordered was very good a party of six. We could go back again.

My beautiful birthday girl and myself such a great vibe in this restaurant

To start off, my family, and I love to fine dining around the valley where we live. We love an ambience and great decor and all of the above. For my daughter's birthday she picks this restaurant to try out at the DC ranch in Scottsdale. It was very easy to find parking out in the parking lot. We got parking right in front of the restaurant. It is in a very large plaza with other restaurants and it's very clean and very pretty at night time. There's lots of little twinkle lights everywhere. We had a reservation for 730 for 13 and our table was not ready for us when we arrived. So they sat us all at a high top to order drinks and chat while they got our table ready. It did take quite a while to get to our table, but we were entertained by each other and having a cocktail so it wasn't the worst. But I was told several times by different staff members that they were getting our table ready, but the other patrons were paid, but they wouldn't leave. Of course, I thought they could just tell them to leave, they are done dining. They had another table to set up...but OK whatever. We are very easy, PEezy family and friend group so we just went with the night and finally got our table. This restaurant is not very big but it is beautiful. It is so fun. It's got the velvet huge curtains from high vaulted ceiling to the floor, it's got lit candles really cool chandeliers. The decor was super fun. We all had yummy fancy drinks, wine all the goods, we all ordered appetizers from the Elote to the guacamole, the ceviche, fundido. They have a wonderful cocktail list. They have your popular wines and you can get a bottle of wine for a very reasonable price and I feel the food was priced very very well not very pricey at all. So many people at the table ordered the steaks and enchiladas. They have lobster enchiladas $79 market value for those yoke lol chicken enchiladas were delicious. The sauces were absolutely delicious. You can tell they were freshly made and just so much love was put into that food. I ordered the lingua Mole which was very tasty and tender and delicious. They don't have Spanish rice. It is just a lightly seasoned white rice and they have pasty pinto beans for the side, which is fine if you like refried beans, but the rice and beans were very simple. So my daughter ordered the fish entrée which she really enjoyed. They had really nice people in the restaurant as well...saying happy birthday to my daughter and other very nice patrons that were just really nice to us. Just seemed like a really nice positive vibe. So we ordered several desserts the flan cheesecake donuts so many yummy yummy desserts. Now let's get to the nitty-gritty OK we had a fantastic server. So sweet, so funny and a great server. He was absolutely divine! He was so attentive and even though I thought this was a fine dining restaurant from yelp. It didn't have the type of dress code of finer dining restaurant would have there were men in there with golf pullovers and baseball caps. But also many people dressed to the nine and looking fantastic... so yeah now. The service was impeccable like you were in a fine dining restaurant tho. The second our wine glasses were empty. He was asking us and serving our wine asking us if everything was OK just fantastic.! He was so super attentive. I would go to Elvira's for a top notch, high-end service experience with delicious food. Everybody had a great time. We will return to Elvira's DC Ranch sometime in the future.

We only ordered appetizers so I will have to return for a dinner for the full experience but this place has got to be one of the coolest restaurants I've dined it. From the dark lightening to the stunning chandeliers, walking in leaves you gasped. My friends and I ordered the guacamole, the Shishito Peppers and the Panko Fried Shrimp Tacos. The sesame glaze and ginger used on the peppers were beyond amazing.. literally was ready to lick the plate. The Panko Fried shrimp tacos were soo good that I forgot to take a pic until after we ate them . I opted for the alcohol free Mango Mule which was refreshing! Absolutely will be back. I need to try this place for a real dinner!

Came back again to Elvira's for a second time, this time around our welcoming was wonderful! The same lady that check us in, had a much better attitude and was very pleasant, nice to see! Our service was much better as well! The food was spectacular! We ordered the same thing as before, the seafood molcajete, it's so GOOD!!! This visit was a 10/10

Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

I found a spot in the surface lot right across the street from one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in town. Ambiance (4/5): The Mission is a nice restaurant. There's a small patio in front and a large patio out back. Sit at the outdoor patio if you can pull it off. Inside is great too, and there's nice artwork both inside and outside. The only issue? It's a popular restaurant and they try to pack in as many people as possible so space is at a premium. That also means that if you come at a peak hour, like we did, it's going to be pretty loud. Service (4/5): There was a wait when we arrived and the bar was full (first come, first served). Luckily, a group was leaving right when I lingered by the bar and we were able to snag the seats. The bartender did a pretty good job taking care of us. There was room for improvement as far as her efficiency and checking in, but overall, given how busy the restaurant was, pretty good. Drinks (4.5/5): The Mission has an interesting cocktail list. As you'd expect, it's tequila-focused but there's a good variety. You'll find creative cocktails which is always big in my book. Plus margaritas like prickly pear margaritas. I went with the correndo na chuva which has cachaca, passion fruit, lemongrass, sherry, and lime juice. Cachaca is a Brazilian liqueur which you don't see in many places so this was a treat. It was a refreshing cocktail. Lots of spicy cocktails are available, too. Food (4/5): While the brunch menu is pretty extensive, I think there's a clear winner: the all-you can eat whole roasted pig out. For $19, and only on Saturdays and Sundays during brunch, it's a steal of a deal. You get pineapple roasted shoulder and pork belly carnitas tacos served with your choice of one of five sauces. There's a little buffet stand where a member of their staff will make the tacos for you. I had about 10 of them and they hit the spot! Nice variety of sauces so I tried all of them except for one (two spicy for my blood) and you can request flour tortillas if you prefer that over the corn tortillas they have. Between the two proteins, I thought the pork shoulder was more flavorful and tender. It's no surprise that The Mission Old Town has some of the most Yelp reviews in town. It's a popular restaurant. Just make sure to make a reservation or stop by outside of peak hours or there's a good chance you'll have a wait.
