It's strange that I keep reviewing this place, as I don't go there terribly often…read more.. Was there the other night anyway. Same shit Wetherspoons atmosphere. I went to the bar and ordered a pint of blackcurrant and a packet of scampi fries (given that I wasn't boozing). The baldy, cranky-faced bloke behind the bar (anyone who has drank there will know who I mean) literally THREW the packet of salted snacks at me. His colleague (a young lady, never less than pleasant) actually felt it necessary to come over, pick up the bag and place it front of me properly while apologising for her co-worker's behaviour. So there's still some decency in the world, anyway. Plus they charged me €3.50 for some cordial and water in a pint glass and a packet of crisps. Outrageous. Don't worry, this shall be my last review of the Bayside Inn, as I shan't be frequenting that establishment ever again.

Okay granted, it's not the best laid out pub nor is it that easy on the eyes but it is cosy and they've recently made an effort with the decor - adding more tv screens for sporting events, random mirrors, new toilets and probably my favorite addition and something I don't think any other bar in Dublin has... a massive Brown Bear over the inside of the main entrance! All in all it's a nice local pub that serves a nice pint, attracts a good crowd and there's never any trouble. Christmas Eve is always their busiest night and one I never miss. Looking forward to the 24th and catching up with lots of friends.

But I have to say they have the best cup of clam chowder for F#&k sake...pardon my french but that is pretty much the only phrase I heard over and over..Service was pretty good. The pints were poured fast and Cold and I loved watching Patrick fight with the bartenders about his 20 euro that he finally found after accusing them of keeping it! I offered him an american dollar but he snarled at me. I think they were shocked the way I was dressed. Dallas Mod meet the country side of Ireland....Sweaters and wool pants lol I loved my time here actually stopped in a few times. My top two observations are: 1) They serve one of the creamiest Guinness I've had to date, and 2) The place is always full of locals, but quite a few tourists pop their heads in too. I'm not sure what is meant when one says one felt out of place, or that the old men were made uncomfortable by one's outfit. Really, no one here gives a rat's ass how you're dressed or where you're from. They're busy watching darts or horse racing or whatever else on the televisions. Basically, if you're there, you're there, so you're welcome to be there! The locals here keep to themselves, in the sense that they've got conversations going (as one does with one's friends), but they don't give off any sort of exclusionary vibe. The barman treated me no differently than any other person. Really, before I'd finished my first pint I had already come to feel like it was my new favourite neighbourhood bar. If only that were indeed my neighbourhood! Food can be ordered at the bar. They offer selections from the Waterside menu as well as a small selection from the El Paso menu (two neighbouring restaurants). In addition, they offer "bar snacks" from 4PM to 7PM, along the lines of chili, wings, chowder, etcetera. We arrived at about 2:30PM and so had the fish and chips (Waterside) and were really pleased with it. Chips were nice and crispy, fish was big and not too greasy. It came served with a little salad with a quite flavourful dressing, an impressively concocted tartar sauce, and the compulsory mushed peas. Come one, come all, and make yourselves at home.

However, the manager that was working there was very rude and actually told us to hurry with our food and drinks as he had another group coming at a certain time. I understand during these unusual times with Covid 19 it is difficult for most businesses. But to be told after only being in the establishment for only 45 mins that we would have to hurry not just once or twice but three times because they had another booking coming in an hour and fifteen minutes just ruined the experience for everyone at the table. The waiters were great and very cooperative in serving us drinks and taking our food order but the whole experience was brought down by the managers attitude towards us. I asked for a pint too at the end which I would have drank pretty quickly and I was told I was not allowed to have any more drink. I only drank four pints and I spent 60 euro which was part of a bill that came to the total of 194 euro between my friends and I. After spending that type of money you would think they would give you at least one more drink before you left but we were told we were not to have any more drink. I definitely will not be going back as my friend was there last week and he too was rushed while eating his food.

The staff in the Watermill are very friendly and its one of the reasons I go so often.

The Grange/Donahies/Donaghmede area is a strange one. For a place with such a large population (think mile upon mile of suburban housing estates) the locality only has one pub (two if you include the O'Tooles' clubhouse, which I won't). This doesn't leave the people with a huge amount of options as to where to go for a pint. Apparently, many decide not to go at all at all, as not that many people drink in the D Inn. And if you've ever been in this pub, you might understand why. Exclusively locals, a lot of them rough, all of them men. It wasn't too bad during the day when I went there, but there's frequently trouble at night. The staff are all ignorant assholes who talk to each other and maybe one of the lads at the bar while ignoring your frequent attempts to get their attention. Aslan played there a couple of years ago. That's the type of place we're talking about here, people.
