I have zero to gain from this review, I just felt compelled to offer some clarity, after stumbling upon a few Yelp reviews that mischaracterize both Vickie and the mission of Eloise Rescue. It's easy to make assumptions without knowing the full picture--but I can say with confidence that this rescue is run with the utmost heart, integrity, and care. Yes, Eloise Rescue charges a $700 adoption fee, and yes, you can adopt a dog at a shelter for $50 with a free vet visit. But that lower price does not equate to greater altruism. At a shelter, you often don't know whether a dog is good with children, other animals, or how they'll behave in a home environment. Nor is the true health status of the dog always known, and the quality of the free vet care may vary significantly. With Eloise Rescue, every dog is temperament-tested before adoption to ensure they are safe and a good fit for their future family--whether that family includes kids, pets, or seniors. No dog is adopted out in under two weeks. That time is used to observe the dog, treat any medical or behavioral issues, and prepare them for success in their new home. Each dog receives a full blood panel, vaccinations, spay or neuter if needed, preventative treatments (for issues like giardia and kennel cough which many dogs leave the shelter with), and a full grooming. The rescue doesn't rely on donated food, either. Instead, food is purchased based on each dog's individual health needs prescribed by experts in veterinary medicine and holistic animal nutrition. When dogs are placed in foster care, everything is provided--from toys and treats to crates, belly bands, bowls, and more. The only thing asked of fosters is their time and love. That's nearly unheard of when it comes to other rescues and shelters. And Vickie remains in touch with 90% of her adopters for the life of the dog--a testament to her unwavering commitment and the relationships she builds. In addition to the $700 adoption fee, every dog requires 7-15(!) training classes, which range anywhere from $350-$550. This is non-negotiable. And can you guess which trainer you are required to use? It's ever so coincidentally the owner-and-also-pet-trainer, Vickie! Not saying this is a scam, but feel free to reach your own conclusions. Perhaps a dog needs additional training- it's entirely possible- but the fact that it's only allowed to be administered by the person who also owns the company.. that's a bit suspect. If your heart ever breaks from a post from Eloise Rescue's social media, featuring an adorable animal that just wants a forever home, just know that it's quite possible that Vickie herself is the person holding that dog back from having a better life. read more

I received a follow-up from Vickie just one day after submitting an application for an adorable husky puppy. After reviewing my responses, she felt I might be more suited for one of her other husky pups (litter mate). My boyfriend and I set up some time to meet "Sookie" a few days afterwards and immediately fell in love. We took her home the same day and it has been one of the best decisions we've ever made! Vickie is very well aware of the needs of each of her rescues and takes the time to carefully vet each application, then match them with the perfect furbaby. She truly cares for each of her rescues and wants the home they go to, to be their forever home. Honestly, I've read some of the negative reviews and it would do you well to ignore them. There is nothing more important to Vickie than making sure these furbabies find their perfect home. (If you want a husky puppy, but live in a tiny apartment and work 100 hours per week, it's probably not a good fit.) She's exceptionally kind, reasonable, and responsive. I've lived with or owned dogs for pretty much my entire life, yet have still been able to learn so much from Vickie, especially during training. I applied for a dog I saw on Petfinder that was at Eloise Rescue. I spent quite a bit of time going through the application, and after I submitted it, I was rejected within a few minutes with no clear explanation other than I was not a good fit. I tried asking for clarification but didn't hear anything afterwards. This was a dog that I thought would be a wonderful fit, so that kind of *abrupt* rejection about a pet that I thought I could take care of really well made me cry. I would not try getting a dog from this rescue again. It's really difficult to work with a rescuer that is high pressure and, honestly, just rude. My family member is looking for a new addition to her family and reached out to Vickie, the rescue owner. Right off the bat, my family member was feeling uncomfortable by the way the owner, Vickie, was speaking to her. She came off as pushy, harsh, and unpleasant overall. When she learned that Vickie requires that all adopters go through HER OWN 7 week training program, she decided to move on to look at other dogs as she felt very uncomfortable at the idea of spending 7 weeks in training with this person. It just wasn't a good fit. She let Vickie know and Vickie responded extremely unprofessionally (I have screenshots). She said extremely sarcastic things in text messages, continually berating my family member. Eventually, we made the choice to block her as she kept sending message after message. My family member is a wonderful person and has the space and finances to provide beautifully for this dog. It's really unfortunate that the owner turned off this potential adopter and has turned off others as well (as can be seen in additional reviews.) read more

This is our little Lilly. The most precious,little puppy on the planet. Lilly came to Eloise Rescue through the heart & love of it's president, Vickie Wagner. She found her (at not even 3 mos. old!!!) in a high kill shelter having medical issues that were unimaginable. This poor little baby had been terribly abused and would have died had it not been for Vickie's tenacity and vigilant "never say die" attitude. After almost $6,000 worth of medical procedures, Lilly is now living with us, her forever parents who are simply amazed everyday, at how loving, playful, trusting and smart this little peanut is. While Vickie doesn't have a vet. license....she should! She knows more about diet & training than most vets learn by the time they graduate & knows the signs to look for in matching and placing her "saves"! My husband and I were asked to come for an initial visit to see how we'd get along with Lilly. That was followed by a "take some time to consider what you're signing on for!" Wow! I'm so confused. Vickie literally ghosted me. After submitting application, a half dozen emails, a dozen texts, calls, virtual walk-through and then finally get to meet what we thought was going to be our new dog, she was nice enough to our face but couldn't even bother to call us to say she was going to another family. She told us we were the only family, that she was holding on to her for us and then we arrive only to find another rescue there that she was trying to sell us on. She then brought out one of her other dogs, who kept barking at our son. Good luck trying to have the dog pay attention to us when Vickie's got a pouch of food on her belt and the foster woman sitting there in the room. It was a total mess. She was insisting on a choke collar, 8 sessions with her trainer (that you pay VICKIE in advance for) and you don't even get your name on the chip. It only has her and the rescue's info. That said, we weren't adopting Vickie, we were adopting a new pet. So we took it all with a grain of salt. After texts and calls to say we wanted the pup... nothing. Three days after meeting her and one more text asking if she was alright, we were told she decided it wasn't a good fit and some bizarre excuse about why. read more

I stumbled across Eloise Rescue on Facebook. I was intrigued enough to "like" it and watched the updates. I could see from the updates that dogs were being pulled in their 11th hour, taken to the vet and after a clean bill of health and neutering (if needed) were available for adoption. One little boy really got to me. I watched every day to see if someone adopted him. I couldn't understand why no one was adopting this amazing dog. I finally contacted Vickie about adoption. I brought my two dogs so we could see how they all got along. Needless to say it wasn't a perfect match. Mine sat there like they wished they could leave. Vickie was a little concerned about the meeting...not only for her dog, but the impact a new puppy would have on my two. I encouraged her to bring the pup to my house where everyone could run around in the backyard and she could do a home check. Once together and off leashes they ran around and were fine. Toby has been with us now since October, and a great addition to the family. He is healthy and his two "sisters" love him to death. Vickie isn't just in this to flip dogs.
