There is a carnival, massive sound stage, beer tent, train displays, swap meet, food vendors, model railroad layout and miniature train rides. The station fills with rail fans of all ages to watch the trains with all real life rail operations cutting right through the festival. The fest last about a week but on one Saturday there is a line up of real trains/cars that you can walk on and walk through. Metra always a locomotive on display that the adults and children can walk through and sit at the controls for pictures. Metra and the village really put on a nice festival for a great family outing which is usually in early June. I will also stop by when the festival is not going on when in the area to do some Rail fanning because it is the lead into the big rail yard with lots of action.

It may seem that I should have simply stayed at the hotel at O'Hare, but blah, there is nothing to do out there. I'd much rather be in the city. Anyway, back to the story, I used the Metra to get to the conference. It is easy and smooth. I could relax, work, read or better yet, Yelp! while on the train. I have been told that you are allowed to bring alcohol on the train and drink while riding... I don't know if you are 'allowed' or nobody cares to care if you drink on the train. If anyone has an official ruling on this, please let me know...

The place is next to a rail yard so you will see commuter and freight trains in action. On the weekends the parking lot is empty and the station is pretty much the same. Tha station is a nice public rail fan spot so there is no trespassing issues but I have been stopped by the police out side of the station around the tracks for a meet and greet. Some rail stations are better than others for rail fanning and this one is one of the better ones.

Less than a year ago they changed parking from $1.00 to $1.50 and now you have to pay a single electronic machine. It was MUCH easier to pay the specific slot instead of sharing 1 machine with EVERY boarding passenger. It just doesn't make sense when you figure most people arrive around the same time to catch a specific train. Inevitably folks need to catch their train and leave without paying. Personally I've done this only to forget to pay online when I get to the office. Which BTW, the new parking ticket is $50. I remember it use to be $10 for forgetting to pay. Otherwise the lot is clean and they do a good job of cleaning up vandalism when it occurs. If only 1 more machine was added it would seem to be a much better stop to catch.

Whereas this Bensenville metra station was $16 each for any time slot or day. This was our first Polar Express and didn't know what to expect; suggested time was to arrive 15 mins prior to boarding time and we arrived 30 mins. Upon entry to the station, we were greeted by teenage volunteers dressed as elves and listened to Christmas music. I was disappointed that we arrived early and ended up with obstructed seats on the upper level in the metra which was the worst view for the "performance". I ended up sharing a seat with my 4 year old so that all 3 of us could seat together. It was very claustrophobic, yet I made it a positive experience for my daughter. She enjoyed the Polar Express storytelling, the Christmas theme balloon twisting, and milk carton with small cookie. We took plenty of pictures with the conductor and santa claus. I had to discreetly request one of the elves for a Christmas bell and candycane because my daughter was accidentally missed handed to one during the ride. Food isn't served or for putchase at this event; we were fortunate to have heavily eaten prior to boarding & brought snacks and drinks for the ride. There was either a goody bag for my daughter or there wasn't any available. It's our 1st time and can't compare anything to it and have different expectations for this experience. Thus, 3 stars.

This is one of the worst west burbs cities to live in the Chicagoland area for the working class…read more The parking tops the list of why I'm rating the city with only one star. They have an "old outdated antiquated" system that only allows you to park your car on certain sides of the streets based on even or odd calendar dates. The purpose of doing this, from what I was told by a city official, was to keep the streets clean from debris and snow...whatever!!!! Every morning around 10:30 am the street and sanitation trucks are cleaning the streets....not overnight!!!! This is a scam so that the city can nickel and dime its working-class citizens!! There are no real brand name grocery stores. You have to buy your bananas and eggs next to the cheap booze and crack paraphernalia. Also, some of the streets are missing trees....yeah trees. The police over police....especially innocent motorists. Two members of my family were victims of violent crimes but nothing came out of the investigation....absolutely nothing!!! My neibor's daughter was mugged right infront of her house and right in front of bellwood street cameras....they did not catch the the men who did this because the cameras dont work!!! Yet the police swoosh down on you for bumping a stop sign. The cops don't speak, they are not friendly (only the ones that I came across). The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Bellwood is 1 in 37. Based on FBI crime data, Bellwood is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Illinois, Bellwood has a crime rate that is higher than 85% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes. I'm in the process of purchasing a home so I'm l renting for now. Guess where I'm moving.....hint: Not Bellwood Illinois!

My children love it and it is fairly priced $2 for those under the age of 18 and adults free. This center also has a nice pond and while they play you can sit back relax and watch the water. I will definitely be sure to support any events here because coincidentally this is also the same area I voted in. If your kids are running around and causing havoc bring them out to this area and let them burn off all that energy.
