Love this park for short walks and picnics. I don't know what's up with all the dead fish on the side of the creek though. Good for dogs and playing frisbee or renting a little space for a picnic or an event.

We've walked through Ellison Park for years, always parking and entering right off of Blossom Road and walking by Irondequoit Creek. I'll never forget the time when a Heberle Stables horse-drawn sleigh rode by! Magical, for this transplanted Southerner who has only experienced green Christmases, prior to moving to the ROC! More recently, we entered the park off of Penfield Road. Shortly after the parking lot for Corbett's Glen, you'll find the parking lot for Ellison Park, that lead's to the "Coyote's Den" Trail. What a GREAT trail! Great elevation -- highly recommend bringing walking sticks! And read all of the reviews that mention entering completing the trail in a clockwise direction, so that you are climbing for the majority of it, versus descending. It's quite muddy -- even during these cold temps, so you'd rather be *climbing* in the mud, trust me! :) At one point, you'll overlook a private lake, and an old mineral quarry. Almost feels like you're in the Adirondacks .... yet you're right here in the urban ROC area!

When I moved to Rochester, one of the tasks on my to-do list was to find a decent park near me. Ellison Park was it! First time checking it out I was drawn to the dog park. Back in my old city, the parks failed to have an area that was dedicated to our "best friends". However, I'm not sure if there's a size limit for the area; I have a loving, 190lb English Mastiff (: The park is loaded with trails, creeks, hills, and beautiful grassy areas. I had the chance to BBQ twice over the summer. One thing to note: late summer = attack of the flying insects! Mosquitoes and flying ants galore! I cooked my food and brought it back home. The maps located around the park are helpful. It'd be convenient to have the grab-n-go maps for the people, like myself, who need visual guides to explore parks in their entirety. I am excited to hit the hills for sledding during the winter season!

Not to be confused with Ellison Island where some immigrants once chilled briefly. A beautiful park that is often somewhat secluded and quiet, because a lot of people from the wider area either don't know about it, or don't come here too often. It doesn't have a massive amount of stuff going on, but it's definitely a lovely place to hang out and walk your dog and so on.

Beautiful park specially with all the fall colors. I like that there is so much to do here. They have a great dog park, a place where you can have family get togethers. Birthday party's, hiking, they have a playground. I really like the disc golf course and how open it is. Really nice course it's huge, great place to play with a few friends and enjoy the scenery. If you play disc golf this is the place to go very open. I'll definitely be playing here more often. Ellison is also a great place for a picnic. Or to come at night and look at the stars

What a great versatile little park! Surprised by all the different things going on here. There is a playground, shelters and lodges for gatherings, nice open grassy spaces, lots of dogs walkers and bikers, some people riding horses, a few people kayaking, a friendly guy and his son invited me to play frisbee with them as I walked by... So, lots going on! I didn't end up playing frisbee with them because I came for a afternoon run- started off on Brindle trail which is pavement, adventurously veered off on Butlers End Trail which is off-road and has a steady incline, and then joined into Indian Landing Trail which is more like what you'd expect from a typical trail run, except scattered with horse poop. Brindle trail= road/pavement. Butlers end trail= inclined trail. Indian landing = trail trail. There are other trails as well (see photos for trail map) but these are the only ones I explored today. Two pieces of advice for the future runs: 1. I encountered lots of Mosquitos, bug spray might not be a bad idea. 2. Watch out for horse poop. There are a lot of other things to do in this area as well. I didn't explore them myself but I saw signs for a dog park, tennis courts, and... it's just a nice place to go visit for an afternoon!

What an amazing place for dogs. There is not only two dog parks but a giant area to take dogs inbetween the dog dog parks. Also the hiking trails are clean, large, and challenging for canine hikers. My pups loved their walks. There are so many other things to do at this park; frisbee golf, tennis, jogging. It is beautiful and very well kept. I also noticed multiple lodges and pavaillions for renting. They looked well kept and large enough for big families. There are multiple parking areas depending on what you are looking to utilize so make sure you have good directions.

One of my favorite parks. Great during any season, but of course, it's oh so gorgeous during the spring/summer months. When my family first moved to Rochester, this was our usual park. It was winter at the time so there were lots of sledding and ice skating trips to Ellison. The sledding hills are actually pretty nice and gradually increase in size from the Landing Road parking lot toward Blossom (the biggest hill is on the corner of N Landing Rd & Blossom). There's a small-ish pond at the bottom of the hill on Blossom (on the right if you're coming from the the city). It freezes over in the winter and was a great little spot to ice skate with my siblings. We'd bring our own skates (no rentals). In general, the park is huge and has a lot of options depending on what you're looking for. The latest addition has been the disc golf course, which is huge and looks pretty difficult. I've only scoped out the "holes" and seen friends play before. Quite the trek. I also love the open fields for frisbee. There's a great playground and swingset for the kiddos or for the fun loving adult who can't resist the ol' swingset. I like hiking here too, but it's more like a walking excursion because the trails are relatively flat. The woods are beautiful. There are wide trails for the casual hiker and most are about 1 mile long. I like walking along the paths bordering the creek. Plus, it's a perfect place for a little picnic too. On my last visit there was a little flooding though from all the rain so be wary of that. I've walked the Coyote Den Trail (starts at Penfield Rd. & ends at Blossom) and the Indian Landing Trail (a loop in the center part of the park - this trail takes you along the creek). Also, make sure you leash your dogs so you don't get ticketed. If you're looking to bring a group of friends or family out for a BBQ or a party there are countless lodges and shelters to rent. The Pavilion lodge is actually really nice - it has a kitchen & fireplace, finished wood, the whole shebang. (It's pricey though $350 to rent).

Awesome historical monument! And my dog ;)

Way to get in there before me! I'm impressed and I tip my proverbial hat, although I don't wear a hat. Anyway. But it's a glorious old building in the heart of Rochester, with some decent food options inside. It has its own security and doorman and such, and a lovely floral plant-filled area inside, sort of like a courtyard in the middle of a towerblock. The popular hipster Yelpy place inside is Sapori, which doesn't impress me, but it's hella cool to have such a trendy sandwich shop inside such a lovely old NY State building. I say that because the feel of the place could only be NY State, or perhaps somewhere like Cleveland. It's extremely North East. The building is like what Manhattan buildings would have been like in the 50s. I love it. Like Icona Pop, I love it. Now I'm at the peak of my powers, I'll quit this review.

From inside and out, there's absolutely nothing that isn't short of spectacular! The first floor has retail which includes a tailor, an optometrist, and much more. It also has quite a few sculptures and art pieces. Entrances off of State Street and Main Street lead to the atrium. The atrium itself has another hidden gem in the form of Sapporo's cafe, which will be covered in a later review. Ferns and hostas proliferate throughout this multi-story extravaganza. You really feel like you're in a whimsical garden while walking through the space. Being that it's mostly professionals in the building it's nice and quiet. A perfect spot to read a book or simply have a seat and relax. No matter the weather, you'll leave this space feeling brand new. It's truly remarkable.
