Overlooking private lake and old quarry from "Coyote's Den" trail

We've walked through Ellison Park for years, always parking and entering right off of Blossom Road and walking by Irondequoit Creek. I'll never forget the time when a Heberle Stables horse-drawn sleigh rode by! Magical, for this transplanted Southerner who has only experienced green Christmases, prior to moving to the ROC! More recently, we entered the park off of Penfield Road. Shortly after the parking lot for Corbett's Glen, you'll find the parking lot for Ellison Park, that lead's to the "Coyote's Den" Trail. What a GREAT trail! Great elevation -- highly recommend bringing walking sticks! And read all of the reviews that mention entering completing the trail in a clockwise direction, so that you are climbing for the majority of it, versus descending. It's quite muddy -- even during these cold temps, so you'd rather be *climbing* in the mud, trust me! :) At one point, you'll overlook a private lake, and an old mineral quarry. Almost feels like you're in the Adirondacks .... yet you're right here in the urban ROC area!

When I moved to Rochester, one of the tasks on my to-do list was to find a decent park near me. Ellison Park was it! First time checking it out I was drawn to the dog park. Back in my old city, the parks failed to have an area that was dedicated to our "best friends". However, I'm not sure if there's a size limit for the area; I have a loving, 190lb English Mastiff (: The park is loaded with trails, creeks, hills, and beautiful grassy areas. I had the chance to BBQ twice over the summer. One thing to note: late summer = attack of the flying insects! Mosquitoes and flying ants galore! I cooked my food and brought it back home. The maps located around the park are helpful. It'd be convenient to have the grab-n-go maps for the people, like myself, who need visual guides to explore parks in their entirety. I am excited to hit the hills for sledding during the winter season!

Not to be confused with Ellison Island where some immigrants once chilled briefly. A beautiful park that is often somewhat secluded and quiet, because a lot of people from the wider area either don't know about it, or don't come here too often. It doesn't have a massive amount of stuff going on, but it's definitely a lovely place to hang out and walk your dog and so on.

Beautiful park specially with all the fall colors. I like that there is so much to do here. They have a great dog park, a place where you can have family get togethers. Birthday party's, hiking, they have a playground. I really like the disc golf course and how open it is. Really nice course it's huge, great place to play with a few friends and enjoy the scenery. If you play disc golf this is the place to go very open. I'll definitely be playing here more often. Ellison is also a great place for a picnic. Or to come at night and look at the stars

What an amazing place for dogs. There is not only two dog parks but a giant area to take dogs inbetween the dog dog parks. Also the hiking trails are clean, large, and challenging for canine hikers. My pups loved their walks. There are so many other things to do at this park; frisbee golf, tennis, jogging. It is beautiful and very well kept. I also noticed multiple lodges and pavaillions for renting. They looked well kept and large enough for big families. There are multiple parking areas depending on what you are looking to utilize so make sure you have good directions.

What a great versatile little park! Surprised by all the different things going on here. There is a playground, shelters and lodges for gatherings, nice open grassy spaces, lots of dogs walkers and bikers, some people riding horses, a few people kayaking, a friendly guy and his son invited me to play frisbee with them as I walked by... So, lots going on! I didn't end up playing frisbee with them because I came for a afternoon run- started off on Brindle trail which is pavement, adventurously veered off on Butlers End Trail which is off-road and has a steady incline, and then joined into Indian Landing Trail which is more like what you'd expect from a typical trail run, except scattered with horse poop. Brindle trail= road/pavement. Butlers end trail= inclined trail. Indian landing = trail trail. There are other trails as well (see photos for trail map) but these are the only ones I explored today. Two pieces of advice for the future runs: 1. I encountered lots of Mosquitos, bug spray might not be a bad idea. 2. Watch out for horse poop. There are a lot of other things to do in this area as well. I didn't explore them myself but I saw signs for a dog park, tennis courts, and... it's just a nice place to go visit for an afternoon!

One of my favorite parks. Great during any season, but of course, it's oh so gorgeous during the spring/summer months. When my family first moved to Rochester, this was our usual park. It was winter at the time so there were lots of sledding and ice skating trips to Ellison. The sledding hills are actually pretty nice and gradually increase in size from the Landing Road parking lot toward Blossom (the biggest hill is on the corner of N Landing Rd & Blossom). There's a small-ish pond at the bottom of the hill on Blossom (on the right if you're coming from the the city). It freezes over in the winter and was a great little spot to ice skate with my siblings. We'd bring our own skates (no rentals). In general, the park is huge and has a lot of options depending on what you're looking for. The latest addition has been the disc golf course, which is huge and looks pretty difficult. I've only scoped out the "holes" and seen friends play before. Quite the trek. I also love the open fields for frisbee. There's a great playground and swingset for the kiddos or for the fun loving adult who can't resist the ol' swingset. I like hiking here too, but it's more like a walking excursion because the trails are relatively flat. The woods are beautiful. There are wide trails for the casual hiker and most are about 1 mile long. I like walking along the paths bordering the creek. Plus, it's a perfect place for a little picnic too. On my last visit there was a little flooding though from all the rain so be wary of that. I've walked the Coyote Den Trail (starts at Penfield Rd. & ends at Blossom) and the Indian Landing Trail (a loop in the center part of the park - this trail takes you along the creek). Also, make sure you leash your dogs so you don't get ticketed. If you're looking to bring a group of friends or family out for a BBQ or a party there are countless lodges and shelters to rent. The Pavilion lodge is actually really nice - it has a kitchen & fireplace, finished wood, the whole shebang. (It's pricey though $350 to rent).

Awesome historical monument! And my dog ;)

This park is located in Henreitta and is a super clean and nice both dog park and disc golf course. The disc golf course is not a full disc golf course it's only 9 holes and they are par 3 or less for each hole. Making it to be somewhat "easier" of a course. However in my opinion this is an easier course than most bc the disc golf bins are so much closer to you than other parks such as elision. I do like the Elison park more in other respects though. The dog park, I've been to all the dog parks as well. This I also my favorite dog park in Rochester. They have two dog parks in one - one for small dogs and one for large dogs. The small dogs are allowed to go into the large dog area which is much bigger and has a little creek to plY and get extremely dirty in ... the smaller dog park is only for small dogs and has a lot of fun "playgrounds" to do tricks with your dog and no water! So you and your pup won't leave dirty. Both also have doggy fountains and doggy bags to keep the dog park cleans. FYI the disc golf course is public and free to anyone; the dog parks is Monroe county memebership through the libraries in Rochester and need a pass to get into. The pass includes the 4 only "private"dog parks in Rochester and is 20 dollars a year. If you love your dog and your dog loves playing with strangers it's worth it for sure. Happy golfing and dog playing :)

While I adore disc golf's blending with other park dwellers, it is refreshing to play a course where the only other people there are disc golf enthusiasts. The on site bathrooms are not always open, but they are maintained well by the Chili parks department. The front nine finish at the parking lot, and the back nine starts at the same place. This is an underrated perk; it is nice to play one half of the course or start on the back nine if there is a crowd. Every tee is concrete and long enough for my ridiculous approach. The course itself is a challenge for all skill levels. My wife has a weaker arm than I do, but my long shots are punished if they stray from the fairways. There are four notable holes on the course. Hole #6 plays out of the woods, across the creek, and dog ears hard to the left. Hole #11 is a monster; a 911 foot par 4. Hole #17 plays with an old grain silo as an obstacle. And Hole #18 is a beautiful back and forth 716 foot that plays to a man made hill. The bugs can be out of control here, but it's summer. Complaining about mosquitoes seems crazy. This is a beautiful course and a must play for every fan of the sport.

The venue itself was beautiful, and some of the staff members we encountered were extremely friendly. Unfortunately, despite these positives, my overall experience left me feeling disappointed and stressed. At our final meeting, all of my carefully planned details were simply handed off to someone else who did not seem invested in my day. Half of my bridal party had never been in a wedding before, and despite asking multiple times, we were unable to secure a proper rehearsal time. We later learned this was because another event was booked that night. Our "rehearsal" ended up being squeezed into the bridal suite, which was chaotic. On top of that, another bridal party was scheduled to rehearse in our space at 1:00 p.m.--just two and a half hours before my guests were to arrive at 3:30. It was very stressful and did not feel like the focus was on our wedding. The morning of our wedding, I decorated everything with the help of one friend, only to have one of my bridesmaids rush in to tell me that another bridal party was practicing in the same space we had paid for and spent all morning decorating. The new woman in charge of the wedding (I never learned her name) Came to me and asked "what my problem was" When I asked about it, I was told, "Sorry, this is just how we do things here." That response left me feeling like my day wasn't valued. I also spent the night before carefully labeling bins and creating spreadsheets for the staff as they requested. Despite this, my belongings were returned completely disorganized--items were put in the wrong bins, frames were broken, and irreplaceable family photos were damaged. I had also rented flowers from Something Borrowed Blooms and specifically reminded the staff they were rentals that needed to be returned. Instead, they were placed in buckets of water--even though they were artificial--and I was later charged for them. I've been hesitant to leave this review because I wanted to move on and focus on the good memories of my wedding day. However, I feel future brides should be aware. While Erica was wonderful to work with, and the venue was undeniably beautiful, the way key details were handled was very disheartening.

From…read morethe beginning at the inquiry stage, they responded quickly and gave us all the information in a digestible manner. The loft itself is a beautiful space. It's a venue where you can decorate as much or as little as you'd like. The exposed white brick, the huge industrial windows, the perfectly appointed greenery that's already there and the adorable trendy modern furniture all make a great setting for whatever the event. The bridal and groomsman suites are amazing!! There's a photo opportunity at every corner. I loved how all my photos turned out! The Arbor Loft staff are just wonderful. We worked with Maddy first who got us to the contracts stage. She was super helpful and responded to all of our lengthy contract review comments. Then we worked with Carly all the way up until the wedding day. I cannot express how thankful we were to Carly. She responded to every email we had in less than 48 hours (I cannot say that for any of my other vendors). No matter how small or big the list of questions were, we got an answer. As a stressed out and type A bride, I can't even begin to stress the importance of receiving an answer in a reasonable timeframe. Unless you do one of their planner packages, it's important to note the Arbor Loft is not your wedding planner. They are very good however at asking the questions that make sure you are on track and have the minimum you need for a wedding day. On the day itself we worked with Autumn. She was so calming and even helped me with a fussy bustle that none of my bridesmaids can figure out. I would not have been able to do my first dance without her! For catering we used the Loft's Folk catering. They had such an interesting menu and we received such good feedback on the food. One of my picky friends event complimented on the dinner. They presented the buffet beautifully. For late night we picked a couple pizzas from swan dive, which delivered straight to the venue. This was the best food item for me on the day. The vegan pizza was soooooo delicious and I was grateful for the extra food since I didn't eat much during the day. Since Folk and Swan Dive were associated with the loft, everything was on one invoice and it was so easy when it came to settling the bill. Carly also kept us on track with payments which we were so grateful for. At the end of the wedding, the staff packed up all of our decorations for us based on an inventory list which was so helpful!! Especially when you're exhausted at the end of the night! Some tips for anyone engaged and getting married at the Loft. Attend one of their open houses. It's super helpful to see the types of furniture, linens, and rentals they offer. Don't buy anything that the loft can provide either for free or a reasonable price. The open house also gives you the vibe of when there are people there. You can also sample food from one of their caterers. And it's free! Take advantage of the furniture that's in the loft already. They have really cute lounge pieces that you can use for a photo op. Use the greenery they have in the space. All of these items can be moved to wherever you want if you just ask. The bridal suite is huge and a lovely space to get ready, use it. One suggestion I have for the loft is to have a bar sampling night. We did not get to taste test any of the drinks they offered for signature cocktails or any of their other alcohols. I'm sure they did a great job with the open bar but I think a drinks night will be super fun for everyone. I absolutely will recommend working with the Arbor Loft team at any of their locations. We had full faith in the team, this is what they do every day! Thank you Arbor Loft :) **All photos are from the amazingly talented Abigail Lynn Photography
