Dr. Elli is awesome and so is her team! I have been going to this dentist for about 3 years now, and have always had such a great experience. The staff is so friendly! Stacy, the hygienist, is great and very good at the art of making conversation without making it totally awkward for you while you're sitting there with your mouth wide open. I appreciate this because I used to go to a dentist where the hygienist would always be asking me questions and I'd be like, "exactly how does she expect me to answer this?" as I'm blubbering a bunch of gibberish with my mouth gaping open.....anyway.....Stacy is awesome. The best thing about Dr. Elli is that whenever you get work done she makes a house call that evening to see how you're doing, make sure everything is okay, and remind you of any further instructions. I was totally caught off guard the first time this happened because I've never had any kind of doctor do this, but it is so nice!! You also can't beat the location, the office is in a residential area of Laguna Beach, so at least while you're going through the hell of getting your teeth drilled there is a calming ocean breeze blowing through the room :) read more

Cannot say enough great things about Dr. Eli. After dropping a previous dentist who told me I needed ALL my silver fillings replaced - at the recommendation of a friend, I took my X-Rays to Dr. Eli, who told me my teeth looked fine and that she couldn't see any reason to do ANY work at that time. Now I've been seeing her for many years. She and her entire staff never try and upsell you on needless crap - they truly care for their patients which is why we've referred almost all of our friends who've also stuck with her for the same reasons. One of the friends we referred was a very successful, highly respected but now - retired dentist, and he has had nothing but great things to say about Dr. Eli after many years of being a patient. read more

Dr Elli and the whole team are awesome, I used to have phobia going to dental offices, since I started seeing Dr Elli, the whole phobia's gone. I have been a patient of Dr Elli for 15 years now. Extremely satisfied with everything. read more

I would stay clear, buyer beware. Shoddy work on crowns, front office is confrontational, to say the least, Dr Elli always trying to upsell you on work that "needs to be done" etc. Good luck... read more

My regular Dentist was ill so I was referred here. My crown fell out right before I was scheduled to fly home for the holidays. I texted the Dr. a photo of my tooth to see if my crown could be glued back in. I was told I had to come to the office. When I was there the Dr. told me I needed an implant or a root canal and a post. Can you spell "upselling?" She also wanted to steal me as a patient. I left the office and went to my regular dentist when I got back from my trip. (Looking like Jethro Bodine with a missing front tooth.) He glued in my crown no problem. Thanks for wasting my time Dr. Elli. read more

This group is very unprofessional. I took the whole day off of work to see the dentist. After the assistant completed my cleaning we realized that the dentist had left before my exam. This is not the reason I feel compelled to leave my review. I had to bring my 10 year old with me to my appointment. She had also been their patient. They told her to carry a chair into my room if she wants to be around me. My daughter grabbed a super heavy chair she could not properly carry it and tried to push it. I was already in the dentist chair I could not get up to help her, then someone yelled at her "don't do it!" I thought it was one of the receptionist. After the cleaning, I realized the dentist had already left. I approached to the front desk, but receptionists were too busy arguing with one another. I had to wait for them to be done. Then I asked them a natural question; where is my dentist. Not knowing she had already left. They snapped at me saying we don't know she must have a puppy emergency at home. They are not only disrespectful to patients, to each other, but also to their employer. They scheduled me for another appointment. I wanted to tell the dentist what is happening at her office. I surprisingly learned that she was the one who yelled at my daughter. When called to confirm my follow up appointment the day before I was told she would no longer work as my dentist. What I regret the most, I did not get up and left immediately. If I could drop my kid off somewhere I would, she made a noise but so what, it was a moment not longer than 2-3 seconds, if I was around her I would help immediately. Thank you so much for disrespectful treatments and unprofessional behavior. read more

I couldn't be happier with my experience with Dr Elli and her staff. I'm a patient and we bring our two daughters to her, as well. It's always an enjoyable experience and always encounter a happy-to-help staff. I would recommend all day long. read more

I had the worst experience with this dentist and her entire office. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. Went in for a filling she was sent to get a root canal, which is obviously fine, in the process has a root canal retreat, well when I went back to her she insisted I get an entire new crown which I was told I didn't need!! She did a horrible "patch" job, got very snotty with me, wouldn't do the work I asked for and her staff is extremely rude!!! STEER CLEAR!!! read more

Dr. Elli is a wonderful dentist and really takes the time to address her patients concerns one-on-one. I have always felt very well informed, knowing exactly what was being done and why it was being done. She uses state of the art technology and her office is absolutely pristine. Going to the dentist is a treat when you're visiting Dr. Elli and her lovely staff! It goes without saying that I would highly recommend her. :) read more

These people are not my regular dentist, but are closer than my regular dentist, so when a porcelain veneer popped off, I went to these guys to have it reattached. They told me they could not reattach it permanently, but that they could attach it firmly enough until i could get in to see my regular dentist. i had a conference i was attending and didn't have time to go to my regular dentist. i thought i was saving myself some time...The veneer popped off again after 18 hours, and i was eating very carefully. Not only did they refused to reattach it for free or refund my money, but they said it was my fault that it popped off in the first place and that by paying them to attach it in the first place, i somehow agreed to not hold them responsible to do good work. Be aware of this when you're looking for a good dentist. read more

To follow up on a review I posted on October 30, 2014. I contacted the California State Dental Board regarding Dr. Abtahi and her fraudulent activities of misleading me by misrepresenting her services. I am glad to let you all know that the California Dental Board has in fact confirmed that Dr. Abtahi and her staff excerised fraudulent businesses practices, and in fact did confirm to me that Dr. Abtahi did mislead me and my dental insurance company - for the sole purpose of receiving more monies. They have notified me that they are sending her a letter and plan to hold her accountable. Be aware of this Dentist and any other dentist that does not explain to you in detail your treatment plan and the options you have - but that instead.... asks you for a large sum of money up front. Everyone has a right to ask their provider and insurance carrier questions regarding their treatment; and it is their ethical duty to answer you Honestly and to not mislead you. And if they do - and you catch it... like I did - than know that you can do something about it. In addition to overcharging me for dental services, telling me she was an In Network dentist for me; when in fact, she was Not - which caused me to have to pay double the amounts that I would have had to pay. This dentist also misled me by telling me that my daughters dental benefits were exhausted in December 2013. I contacted my dental insurance carrier myself, because I knew that was incorrect. And, it turns out - I was right. My daughters dental benefits were NOT exhausted. After paying the dentist in full;the Dentist went ahead and filed a claim anyway with my dental carrier for the reimbursement. The dentist did receive a check from my dental carrier, which she was supposed to have given to me. I have yet to receive that money back. My advice: Always follow up with your insurance company yourself and never leave it in the hands of your provider. I learned this the hard way; that, unfortunately, some providers are opportunistic and deceptive - like this dentist - to make a buck. Consider yourself warned. read more

Dr Elli Abtahi and her team first saw me because of an emergency visit. They welcomed me as a if I had been a patient of theirs for years. Dr. Elli and her staff explained all of my options thoroughly as well as financially. They did not steer me towards the highest price option. I was able to make a well informed decision under an emergency situation. I've referred five of my friends & family to Dr. Elli Abtahi with great feedback. My biggest surprise was when I received a handwritten note for the referrals. They now have a patient for life! Thank you Dr. Eli for your kindness. read more

I cannot recommend this dentist. She assured me she could do reconstructive crowns on dental implants. After four attempts and nearly two years, I still can't chew. What a dreadful, long, drawn-out and costly failure. I had to go to a specialist. read more

I was referred by my dentist who retired. I must say this was the worst referral ever! At the time I was in the middle of a dental implant. Dr. Eli did my crown or should I say her dental assistant Dee did. I saw the dentist at the end of the lengthy appointment. So many things went wrong, too many to mention here. My 2 1/2 hour appointment became 4 hours. I'm unhappy with the results and can't floss between the teeth. Soon after, my crown on another tooth chipped. I made an appointment. Dee saw me, not the dentist! Dee said that happens and it just needed buffing out. My tooth I was told was fine. When I came back months later for my regular check up and cleaning I was told by Dr. Elli that the same tooth I had come in for had decayed so much that I needed another implant! I have since found another dentist. He is wonderful! On my first visit I brought my X-rays from Dr. Eli she had taken 6 months earlier. Guess what, she missed a cavity on the X-rays! Thank goodness, my new dentist could save my tooth. There are many good Dentist out there unfortunately Dr Elli is not one of them. read more

Dr. Elli and her staff, especially Stacy the hygientist are excellent. They are both very gentle and have a great patient rapport. I am a physician an understand how stressful it can be to see many patients, yet the whole staff always has a smile on their faces and a warm welcome. Dr. Elli has allowed me to bring my twin daughters in to my appointments to get them used to the dentist and the office before they need their own actual appointment. ABOVE and BEYOND! read more

I really like all the people who work at this office. However, over the years I've experienced a few things that have made me want to find another dentist. First thing that struck me was something that Dr. Elli said to me once after she recommended using fluoride toothpaste, being a student of toxicology I actually recognize that fluoride is a poison and therefore I choose not to use it, so I expressed that to her. Now, I don't know if she was not aware of what she was saying, or if she actually believes what she said to me next, or perhaps she was judging my choice not to use it and trying to manipulate me into using it, but she proceeded to tell me that we don't absorb any fluoride when using it in toothpaste!!! I mean, that was possibly one of the most ignorant statements I'd ever heard come from a medical professional. I was dumbfounded and didn't want to argue with her after that, however a). Why would flouride be in toothpaste to "strengthen your teeth" if it wasn't absorbed into the body orally? b). Has she never heard of sublingual absorption? It's one of the fastest routes of absorption!!! I let it go and just brushed it off, but it really made me question her integrity. Next she put a large filling in a tooth, and right after I noticed that she left a very large overhang on the filling, it was catching food and tearing my floss, inevitably causing another cavity to form! Great news for her $$$, bad news for me. I asked her to fix the overhang so it didn't catch like that, she says "no problem", goes in and "fixes it", for lord knows how much money, afterwhich there is still an overhang that tears my floss and catches food, fixed my ass. Sorry for my language, but it's really lacking integrity to say you fixed something but in reality do such a poor job. She tried to tell me that I needed to get a crown on that tooth now, that the cavity forming now was in a location which that would be our only option since the tooth already had a few fillings in it. So I decided that I was ready to try a new dentist in the area, get a second opinion if anything. The moment I was with the new dentist going over my xrays they pointed out not only the one overhang on that tooth, but two more locations where there is an overhang catching food, and my floss. I thought my floss was just catching between my teeth because they're so tight together, but now I know! Dr Elli left three overhangs in fillings that have caused me problems ever since. The new dentist told me I don't have to have a crown on that tooth like Dr. Elli insisted because they can do a more conservative version where most of my tooth can remain intact. The other dentist explained that crowns can catch bacteria and cause decay under them. They pointed out an existing crown I have that was placed by Dr. Elli, where there is decay happening at the base of it, however, because Dr. Elli uses crowns that have a metal layer underneath, the xrays cant pick up what is under the metal, leaving us totally blind to seeing if there is more advanced decay. The new dentist told me we can replace the crown with the type they use which are all porcelain and can be seen through in an X-ray and monitored. Dr. Elli never noticed the decay under that crown. She also didn't notice another cavity forming under a filling she had placed that my new dentist pointed out. Basically I'm very happy with my decision to see a new dentist. If you have good teeth and you're only visiting this office for teeth cleanings there's no problem, but if you need Dr. Elli to do work on your teeth be ware that she may not have the artistic skill it takes to be precise enough to make smooth fillings and provide the most advanced options in dentistry available. read more
