Got an honest auto mechanic? You're damn lucky. Found yourself an honest dentist? You're beyond blessed. Without knowing much about dentistry, it's difficult to know when someone's taking you to the cleaners. I know, I've been there several times. I was fortunate, however, when some family friends recommended Dr. Mark Brisley. Before Dr. Brisley, however, I went to one dentist office who told me I needed a crown when I had slightly chipped a tooth. After insurance, my bill was $1,500. A few years later at another dentist office for a routine check up and cleaning, I was told that crown would need to be replaced as it was cracked. My options, I was told, were either to replace the crown now or have a root canal later. In addition, I was told I would need 2 - 3 other crowns in different areas. This seemed not only very expensive, but also very suspicious being that I take pretty god care of my teeth. I sought a second opinion by calling up Dr. Brisley. As it turned out, I did not need any crowns - new or replaced. In fact, that "crown" wasn't even a crown, but rather a porcelain inlay. And because the chip was so shallow, I would not have been in any need of a root canal at any time - even if the inlay fell off. Dr. Brisley not only saved me from the possibility of being taken for a very expensive (and completely unnecessary) ride, but also explained the entire process to me and restored my faith in dentistry. The office is a charming little cottage in Laguna Beach, just off of PCH. It's cozy and unpretentious. The entire staff is warm and genuine. Every single member of the team is committed to doing whatever they can for the patient, and the pricing is very fair - even after insurance. A short while ago, just before a regular cleaning, that porcelain inlay of mine finally broke off. Dr. Brisley was able to see me immediately to replace it with a better bonding (and more durable) material that completely blended in with the color of my tooth. And in preparation, he did a thorough check to make sure I was properly numbed in all the proper areas so I didn't experience a bit of pain. And the bill? After insurance, it was under $100. Want an honest dentist who really knows what he's doing and is committed to doing right by his patients? Book yourself an appointment with Dr. Brisley ASAP. read more

So as a child finding myself in a dentist chair way more than any child should, I found myself neglecting my oral hygiene once it became my decision. Gross - I know. Trauma is a powerful thing. My faith in the dental practice has been restored thanks to Dr. Brisley and his AMAZING team. I had a hole - yes an actual hole as in a chunk of tooth missing from my molar and had no choice but to go get it filled. I picked Dr. Brisley from my insurance network and read some reviews and decided to take my chances. Before that, my last oral visit involved extracting my wisdom teeth, not being numb enough, vomiting from the painkillers, and having a fat face for a week right around Christmas time 6 years ago. Not pretty and the thought still makes me cringe. I shared my anxiety with Dr. Brisley and could not believe how easy he made the whole process. I had no idea I had even been shot with Novocain and before I knew it I was numb. Got filled, a week later got cleaned and here I am a year and a half later. Got my 3rd checkup and cleaning with them yesterday and couldn't be happier with them. I moved from Laguna Beach back to Anaheim to be closer to my new job and still make the trek to Laguna every 6 months just to be taken care of. The staff is warm, friendly and genuinely care. This guy is awesome, and honest! I take great care of my teeth, and was shocked when I was told I had 4 cavities at a previous dentist, who after letting them fill two of my teeth, I left out of a gut feeling that something was wrong. I came to Dr. Brisley convinced that I needed these two fillings and a cleaning. He told me that in fact I didn't need any fillings, nor a cleaning. I was shocked, and reassured that there are some honest dentists out there. I scheduled a cleaning in 6 months, and was very pleased. I am happy that I now have a great dentist. I've been going to Dr. Brisley every 6 months for the past 10 years. Previously, I was new in town and went to a dentist who told me all my old silver amalgam fillings would need to be removed and replaced with gold! It was going to cost me a fortune! A fellow RN friend told me about Dr. Brisley back then and I've been seeing him ever since! His philosophy when I told him about the dentist who wanted to take out all my old fillings was, "don't fix it if it ain't broke!" Dr. Brisley is funny and playful but, at the same time, a true professional. Absolutely tops in his field and brilliant. When reading Yelp reviews, it's important to toss out the high scores and the low scores. As you see, this is sort of difficult in this case since they are ALL 5 stars, except for one lonely review. Read into it what you will. I've never even had a chance to properly start a magazine article before being seen, which is something I actually look forward to. I should ding Dr. Brisley a star just for that! HOWEVER, if someone else was having a dental emergency that had to bump me back a few lousy minutes I'd gladly sit patiently, and not whine about it on the internet. Having had a bad experience with my previous dentist, I had been looking for a new one. It was the like their whole office was just out to get you with the usual up selling and not to mention, it wasn't exactly the cleanest. I was so pleasantly surprised when I found Dr. Brisley. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Brisley and his staff. I had to come in for frequent appointments for a two front crown replacements. He was extremely patient, a bit of a perfectionist (which I loved because my previous dentist was not and I ended up spending even more $$ to replace his shoddy work), and made appointments lighthearted and comfortable. He explained to me exactly what he was doing at every step and why. Getting appointment times was easy and convenient and the pricing was extremely affordable. Some come to Laguna to go to the beach; we (now former Lagunatics) come to go to the dentist! (and perhaps a walk on the nearby beach afterwards). Dr. Brisley is a great dentist and what we especially appreciate is that he only does what is necessary, rather than others that push all kinds of procedures on you to pay for their new fangled equipment. I have had some major work done (crowns) over the years by Dr. Brisley and all went very well, but typically all that is required is a cleaning.
