That being said, the food did not hit the spot. My chicken fried steak was the kind that comes out of a frozen bag (and tasted as much), and the gravy was the same. I love me some good chicken fried steak, but this was almost inedible. I just couldn't do it. My daughter's burger didn't look that great either. Can't say much about the waitress because my interactions with them were limited to drinks, ordering and check. I guess I expected more from a place that has been around long enough to get things down to a science. A certain other breakfast place across the street has MUCH better food. read more

Dawn was our server on our 8a visit during this past week. Nice seating out front so I can't speak for inside. Drinks amd food came very quickly. The omelets were a generous size for us. We tried the spinach feta and the farmer's. Holy spinach in that one! Def took over the flavor with how much spinach. I asked for crumbled sausage to be added but it was so minimal I could barely taste it. Nicely toasted home fries though. Overall, quick joint with decent meal. Nice outdoor seating. 2 omelet meals and our bill was about $30. Will have to go back and try lunch. read more

I have been here a few times and it is good for a quick bite. The last time I went, I got the half French toast with over easy eggs and extra crispy bacon. I also had a coffee and the server was kind enough to offer a to go coffee when I was leaving. There is some outdoor seating. I gave it three stars because the restaurant itself is kind of dated and the food is pretty basic dishes. Nothing fancy or different that other breakfast places, like First Watch, offer. The past couple of time that I ordered over easy eggs, they had runny whites as well. I need to remember to order over medium here if I go back. read more

Wanting to try a local establishment and hungry for breakfast brought me to the Ellenton cafe. I entered and found a seat - the waitress working outside grabbed me a coffee and a menu. I was fascinated by training going on at the register and after awhile figured out that the place is being sold and the current owner was training the new owner how to run the computer. This place is a typical local diner - a little dated in the decor, seating and tables and exactly where I like to be. The waitress showed up promptly to take my order and todays meal was country fried steak with home fries, eggs over hard and rye toast. It didn't take long for the breakfast to show - there was a steak knife on the plate but not needed - the prepared patty was fork tender... gravy was real good but the home fries were perfect. I had a chef salad with homemade thousand island dressing. It included a lot of deli meat and cheese with iceberg lettuce. Overall, it was a good lunch, but it seemed like my salad all came from the inside of the head of lettuce. I used to enjoy the food here, but it's not the same under the new management. I ordered the Farmer's Omelet which was supposed to have sausage in it. The sausage was ground up and barely detectable. The omelet was small and not flavorful at all. Doing low carb, I ordered sliced tomato on the side. The tomato was hard and not even close to being ripe. My niece ordered apple juice and received orange juice. I was never offered a refill on my coffee. I will not return. read more

Sunday afternoon. Walked in to Ellenton Cafe, the first waitress I talked to said have a seat. As I am standing at the entrance, the middle eastern man at the cashier stand said the booth is not available. He proceeded to inform me, that it was reserved for larger party's. The table he offered me was a dirty table next to some loud patrons. I simply asked again, can I sit at to clean, unoccupied booth. He promptly said NO. My next move was one I learned negotiating for a new vehicle. I walked to the entrance, calmly saying I can find another restaurant. This is where the rude owner shouts out, "good, get out of here" in a not nice manner. The waitresses looked very homely and not at all welcoming. The grubby appearance might work at a Greek restaurant, but this is suppose to be a breakfast spot. I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone, including my worst enemy, hell I'd even tell my mother in law to stay away!! read more

Every time we have eaten here it has been good. We don't often go out for breakfast/brunch but this is close to our house so it's convenient t when we decide to go. Don't go here looking for a Michelin or Zagat experience. They don't have a chef; they have a cook. They don't have a maitre d' - there is a friendly lady at the cash register that welcomes you to have a seat at any open table. There is no fine drinkware or china; it's Pepsi-branded plastic tumblers, heavy dinner plates, and inexpensive flatware. The kind of place that takes you back in my mind to that neighborhood joint when I was a kid. I was going to give 3-stars because 3-1/2 isn't available. As I thought over my we experience I feel that the Ellenton Cafe earned a solid 4 stars. They provided everything that you would expect at a local family diner: simple, tasty food with decent service in a comfortable setting. I enjoyed my mushroom & swiss burger with sliced onions - add a little steak sauce and "Yum-Yum, you know you want some". The fries were fresh, hot, and had a light crispy coating. My wife had the French Toast special with scrambled eggs and bacon. The eggs looked fresh and the bacon was crispy. She says it was a good meal. This is not a destination eating spot, but my daughter lives just minutes away Making this a convenient regular stop when we visit in Ellenton. It is not a fancy place, it is simply "good & steady". I noticed several diner comfort food selections that I want to try on a return visit - meatloaf, liver & onions, open-faced roast beef and gravy. Some concerns as other Yelpers noted staff is not really wearing masks, unless you count wearing it below your chin. I found it interesting that they raise it and the nose stays uncovered. And even the manager lowered her mask to talk to the customers as they paid at the register. Most of the customers on this morning did not wear a mask. We got to sit wherever and we chose the booth by the window. Booth offered distancing and were clean. Our server came over with the chin mask and I simply asked if she could wear her mask. She apologized and said sure. No more mask issues. The western omelette was good and freshly made, loaded with peppers. Coffee was hot and strong. Service was good. This is a CASH only place. Meh. Nothing special unfortunately. We decided to try this place because butterfields is closed on Tuesdays. Someone was smoking outside on the patio and the door was not fully closed so you could smell the cigarette smoke, was gross. We went to be seated and one of the servers made me wait in the aisle as she spoke to her customer, I'm talking looked at me and stopped me, it was weird and felt awkward. We decided to wait for a booth as the tables seemed close. Our waitress was friendly enough, not a lot of emphasis on building rapport or being communicative, but that's fine. I had the monte cristo sandwich, the cheese pull was excellent but I think the turkey in the sandwich was bad because it was this weird grey color- my stomach was not a fan and bothered me for the rest of the day. My fiance had the Philly cheesesteak, he enjoyed it. Maybe it was a fluke and maybe we'll go back to try something else, but as long as they allow people to smoke cigarettes right outside the building where the smoke can loft in I will avoid and go other places. read more

This place was not good. The waitresses aren't wearing masks, which I found surprising. They have packed so many tables in such a small place you are literally an inch from the next table. I had to literally get up so the table next to me could leave. The food was lousy. Breakfast sausage was so over cooked I could barely cut it. My mom had a smoked salmon and egg sandwich on a bagel. The bagel wasn't warm or toasted. Just pulled from a plastic bag. Biscuits and gravy had no taste. The only decent thing on our table were my over easy eggs. I have supported this place for years and I hate to do this but I was extremely embarrassed today. I ordered the same thing 10 times a month always extra crispy hash Browns Browns and they never make an attempt To cook them like I ordered. And yet I still come back today I decided to check my order and show the owner that they were not extra crispy barely even cooked as usual. The owner's wife cut him off and says we're too busy on a Saturday to make special request. I replied what about on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I picked this order up she wroyeah thorough she rips the food out of her husband's hands throws it in the trash can screaming and yelling it was the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen at a restaurant. I ordered the corned hash beef and eggs and was disappointed with my order. The eggs and hash browns were good, but the corned beef has was sour tasting like it was old. I was informed by the waitress that this was one of their popular dishes. I don't see how... I just couldn't get over the sour taste it was as if it was sitting in the fridge for days and just tasted very gross. When I told the waitress she didn't seem surprised either, the very same waitress that informed me this was a great dish was the very same waitress that didn't seem surprised when I told her it tasted old, spoiled and soured. Terrible management when dealing with a customer. I was eating food while another patron was asking about his food. He asked for extra crispy hash browns and the guy there said they dont do that on a busy day! Regardless if it is busy or not, an extra 30 seconds wont kill you when it comes to making the food. If I had a peanut allergy and I didnt want peanuts on my food and you tell me "we dont do that when we are busy" I wont come back at all. Overall terrible experience and will not return. read more
