Being the explore that I am, I used a combination of -yelp and Google to find parks near me. I was excited to find that there was a park 3 miles from my aunts house. I asked to borrow her car and away I went. When I arrived, I found a small parking lot. I noticed cut outs in the woods that resembles trailheads, but not many markings. I happened upon a trail head board, where I was able to pull a trifold brochure with map out of the case. From what I can tell, this series of foot, bicycle, and horse paths is maintained by volunteers. The trails are easy to spot, but not all have signage Or names. I noticed That's some of the posts had numbers, but that really means nothing unless you have a copy of the map. At some junctions, you are left to wonder where the path will lead and whom it is intended for. Summer designated foot only, summer horses only, and some are shared use. I used my Fitbit to track my GPS, so I can upload a map with my review, but I very much felt like Hansel wandering the dark forest. There are many beautiful trees, some great signage and points of interest for foliage in centuries. the brush is trimmed fairly well and it's pretty easy to find yourself alone on a path. During my run, I encountered walkers, the folks on horse back, mountain bikers, and even Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, Complete with ornaments. As I stopped to take a photo, I could hear something breathing nearby. It certainly was not a human. It sounded like a horse, but as I stood still, I heard no other movement and could see no horses, so I'm not 100% sure what the creature was. I read another review that said someone happened upon a coyote. Little red riding hood happened upon a wolf, but being Hantzel, I'm not so sure who was stocking me.Oh, and I found the witch's table in a clearing on a path, which let me know that I was indeed in the dark forest. The hours to the small park are 8 AM to dusk. There is no running water but there is one single Porta potty at the main trail head. They also provide doggy bags and a 5 gallon bucket that serves as the trashcan for the doggie Doodoo. The Porta potty was pretty well-maintained, the log shows that it's cleaned every 1 to 2 weeks. Being Covid, I was disappointed that the hand sanitizer was empty. All in all it was a pretty good run/walk in the woods. Be prepared for hills. There are many. My weaving loop in the woods was just under 3 miles, but I'm certain there's more to discover. I didn't travel all of the trails, in fact when I returned to the parking lot I discovered another path that had been blocked by a horse trailer when I arrived. four stars for the confusing intersections and lack of signage on many of the paths. Would I run this trail again? Yes. would I recommend this trail for someone to explore alone? Yes, if you are good at directions, not in a hurry, have your phone and GPS handy, just in case, and or if you bring plenty of breadcrumbs to drop along the way like Hantzel and Gretel.

This is an AWESOME off leash park! Just over 2 acres, with running water in all sections of the…read morepark, though it is turned off in the winter as the pipes could freeze and burst. There is a faucet on the back of the building across the parking lot. There are now 3 areas: a SMALL dog area, and 2 LARGE dog areas that are separated so that one area can be left to regrow any missing grass while the other area is in use. There is a GREAT agility course, mostly for the Sequim Police K9, but anyone who knows how to use it can. Generally, it's a good idea NOT to bring your small dog into the large dog area. Some large dogs just don't particularly like small dogs in their face. Also, EVERYONE needs to pick up after their dog. ALWAYS keep an eye on your dog to avoid problems with other dogs and people! Rule of thumb is "3 is a crowd" - dogs gang up when there are more than 2 rough housing.

The dog park is separated into three gated areas. The smaller dog area is ample size to accommodate at least 50 dogs and their owners. The larger dog area is also decent in size. Both areas have water stations and covered benches just in case you want to sit down and watch the dogs play. The third area is for agility testing or for dogs to run the obstacle course. I will say that the majority of the dogs that were in the large pen were very friendly and kind of minded their own business. My friend's dog did get scratched in the nose as she entered though, so her nose was bleeding a bit but nothing major. The pens also come equipped with a few dog ball tossers and other toys to keep the doggies moving as well as doggie doo bags. I did sense a bit of community here as well as there were a few posters of dogs that have passed on as well as dogs that were lost were posted and several people talked about the dogs that passed on as if they were their own. Overall, a nice place to just let your dogs run.

This is a pretty unique place as the spit is the longest natural sand spit in the United States,…read moremeasuring at about 5 miles long. Why isn't there an exact length? Well, it's because the spit is growing about 15 feet a year through the deposition of sediment by the motion of the tidal currents. If you have time, you can hike the entire length of the spit to reach the New Dungeness Lighthouse. There are daily tours available, or even better, you can opt to reserve to live in the lighthouse keeper's house! Don't worry about carrying all of your luggage on the hike - they will drive you in a four-wheel drive transfer vehicle. I've also heard of people boating to the lighthouse instead of land-based transportation. Anyway, this area is very gorgeous and amazing for getting outside. If you don't want to hike the spit, there's bluff trails that give amazing views. It feels like the sky and the ocean swallow you up in all of the shades of blue.

We walked on the trail that's 1 mile along near the bluff. I could stare at that forever. I took videos and it's like medicine for the soul to watch them again and again. Camping is available here. They have coin operated showers, and there's a dump station. Restrooms too. I suppose in fairness I should probably give three stars because there's nothing fancy here, but I have loved walking around this park for over 40 years, and emotional attachment is making me give another star. Unlike when I was a kid, homeless people live here now, but none of them have ever bothered me. Honestly, I'm just glad they have such a nice place to go. There's plenty of room for everybody.

I've been there plenty of times before when the public restroom was unlocked, and if it was locked in the early evening in August, I wonder under what conditions it's unlocked. Despite that, the little cabins I used to play in as a kid are still there, disc golf is available, there are nice facilities to reserve and rent, and there are a lot of pretty places to walk. You get a real outdoorsy feel without being far from civilization. It's worth a visit.

On our tour of the Olympic Peninsula this was our first stop. It made for a great first night and…read moreis just outside of Port Angeles. We arrived late on a weekday night after working a full day on the Eastside. This campground is first come first serve so we couldn't really plan ahead and had to hope there would still be something available. Even though we arrived only a few hours before dark we were able to find a really nice campsite nestled in the woods. There are several loops with nice sized camp sites for both tent and Rv camping. We found a lovely private site that was clean and free of litter and well maintained of debris. Each site is surrounded by gorgeous trees for privacy, mossy rocks, and peaceful forest views. After getting set up we enjoyed a restful and quiet night. The bathrooms were well maintained and there was also water for cleaning our dishes. Each loop seemed to have its own bathroom and garbage sites which was super convenient. We saw several deer, birds, and other little critters on our brief night's stay and look forward to coming back to visit them soon.

First come only, and to get your site you must either log into the system (with limited cell service) or write your entire credit card info onto the form and leave it to be processed...no cash. Not so much a fan of that notion. We took the Heart o the Forest trail available from the top loop, although we didn't take it to the end. An out & back, narrow, with lovely trees. Overall a nice forested campground, with loads of sites of varied shapes and sizes and levels of privacy.
