Found L & B Avalos auto shop, it's right off of Highway one but down a very narrow side street. Alvaro immediately greeted me and I told him what the problem was. It was straight up noon, and he said he could repair it, and at a good price. He had just started his lunch, so we agreed that we would come back at 12:30. When we returned , Alvaro started working on the truck and his charming wife Perla greeted us. We had a great conversation with her and had our tire repaired in a few minutes. He checked and adjusted the tire pressures all around. They turned a pain in the butt situation into a pleasant experience! I can't recommend them enough!

Ran for the coolness of the coast and started making calls. We were only scheduled to be in the area for one week. Ft Bragg only had an opening a week and a 1/2 later and were pricey. Ukiah, same story. Cheapest was $140hr after $125 diagnostic. One shop in Point Arena called back. $60 diagnostic. $120hr labor. Lowest price around. L&B Avalos Auto Shop. I spoke with Perla who was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I told her I'd be in. Artlo... may be spelling his name wrong is the mechanic. As soon as I pulled in he was immediately going through the truck and it was obvious that my AC line was blown. They ordered the part immediately. Now this is a small town so it takes a little patience to get parts. But they had it within 24 hours and I was back having it installed. Unfortunately, once he started to recharge the system he found the compressor was leaking. Part ordered. They had two places to order from. One $600 the other $300. Obviously we chose the less expensive one but it had to get ordered to Ft Bragg and then picked up. I offered to go pick it up when it was ready to help expedite my repair and offered to pick up any other parts they had in order. Perla called me later that afternoon saying the part had already arrived. I took the hour drive to pick up my compressor and a couple of other parts that they had ordered. Unfortunately I wasn't going to make it back until late evening. I texted Perla and told her and scheduled a noon appointment. Today I pulled in at noon, handed them the keys to the truck and the parts, and Artlo was immediately digging in to my truck. Perla said it would be about 3 hours. 2:45pm I got a message. My truck was done. The trucks AC is back to ice cold. By my estimate, it should have been a bit over $800. It was just under $720! This shop is tucked away down a small street. The building is old school. But the knowledge and abilities are all there. The small town vibe is definitely there. It's about honest work, integrity and working together. This two fixed my problem, charged me reasonably and made me feel like a part of this small community. If you need any auto work done, seriously go here!

Tried the 76 station for tire repair; they said they were swamped and could maybe take me in five days, which would be five days of lost work in my agricultural services business going to farms. I drove up to Jr's on the spare where they, too, were swamped but amazing Hank said, "A tire takes 10 minutes. Come back at 3 PM." I did and was out by 4 PM, after lovely hang time with Lola dog. Next day? Same thing. The tire behind the newly repaired one had a flat, from a nail and some glass. (Oh, transfer station.) I had a few hundred miles to drive the same day, and was on the hook for giving some coastal neighbors a lift to the Bay Area. Jr's came through on short notice AGAIN and all was well. I thought it was bad fluid, so sucked that out and replaced it, but no, not it. I checked the belts, they looked good, seemed tight to me. I finally stopped by the shop and told Trevor about it. Before I could finish describing the issue he said "The belt is loose". Faster than I can finish this post he had walked into the shop, gotten the proper tools to adjust it, and did so. He also sprayed the corrosion building up on my battery. This completely solved the issue, in less than 5 minutes. We had this car serviced regularly in Marin for years, and never were the bills even close to as expensive. Additionally, the owner, Trevor attempted to "scare" my wife into believing that she needed to have several additional repairs that they had found. What a Joke! When I called the very successful shop we used to take our cars to in Marin, and told the owner not only the cost of the service, but the other things that were described as "dangerous" by Trevor, he just laughed and told me we got robbed.
