We had our '70 Vw camper bus battery die 10 miles east of Mendocino. I decided to get us towed to the shop in Fort Bragg. We slept the night and in the morning talked to Ryland. He informed me that unfortunately he didn't have time to do an alternator swap that day as he had a full day of cars to finish up. He happily agreed to hook my battery up to the charger so I could get to the next shop. We were able to make our bike rail skunk train ride while the battery was charging at the shop. When we got back, he informed us that he went ahead and looked around and found our alternator wire had fallen off and that we were good to go. he also tightened up our alternator belt as he found it to be loose. I give this Shop 11 stars. Ryland is a generous soul. read more

We had a battery issue with our car during a visit to Fort Bragg. Rylan quickly diagnosed the problem and recommended a solution. By the time we paid the bill the battery had been replaced. Rylan runs a very efficient and customer friendly operation. I would highly recommend this shop! read more

One of the best auto repair places ever. Not only are they knowledgeable, but the kindness and courtesy that is extended towards us has been always amazingly professional. I would recommend them to anyone desiring a honest and excellent service repair experience. They have worked on our Audi, Ford and Toyota and our daughters GMC. read more

I was a visitor to Fort Bragg went my car started making a strange noise. My wife was here for a job and I came to visit her. This is her car and we needed it the next day for my flight out of Santa Rosa airport. I brought my car to Rylan at The Shop and he checked it out on the spot, even though he had cars to fix into next week. They diagnosed my problem and told me that my alternator was out and there was no way that I would make it to the airport let alone back. I was fearful for my wife coming back alone. They took it in the next day and I had it back the same day and now I can go to the airport without worry! Her car sounds great! They did an awesome job! Where can you get service like that? Thank you Rylan! read more

While traveling down the coast, our Nissan developed problems with the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. We called The Shop on a Monday morning and they were able to fit us in for service that day and get us right back on the road. Many thanks Ryan and team! read more

Butter my butt and call me a biscuit! When my Toyota burned up an alternator during my stay in Fort Bragg, I had it towed to 'The Shop' and left overnight. I was mad as ever and left with no options. I made the call, left the voice message after hours, and hoped for the best. I received a call bright and early that next morning during a stupor. BOOM, the Toyota was ready to be inspected and corrected. Bossman had a new alternator shipped in from a neighboring city and installed the very next day. They were able to complete the job quickly and for an affordable price. If you want something done correctly, fast as all heck, and with your outcome in mind... make the right choice and just visit 'The Shop.' Well done boys! read more

We had the most wonderful experience with The Shop--if you're looking for honest and compassionate professionals to work on your car, this is the place to go! A friend and I were road-tripping down from OR when her car overheated and stranded us 40 miles from our hotel in Mendocino. After letting it cool (and praying some desperate prayers), we managed to make it to our hotel and the next morning I started calling places. The Shop was the only one with openings so we quickly took the little Civic over and let them look at it. After just a few hours of us enjoying breakfast at a cafe down the street, they called to say they had run a full diagnostic and hadn't found a definite cause of the overheat but did walk us through what the potential problem *could* be if we found ourselves overheating again. (They told us it wouldn't be worth digging into that possible solution unless the overheating continues to be a consistent problem.) They did not charge us a dime for the time they took to check out the car or for the extra coolant they added. Each person we talked to was friendly, positive, and very professional. We were so grateful to have found a trustworthy mechanic who didn't attempt to up-sell or over-charge us. Lovely people, excellent work. 10/10 recommend to all, but especially to weary travelers in need. ;) read more

My right brake light was out on my Honda CRV and after figuring out to get to the light itself the panel screw was stripped and so I was stuck. Because we were traveling I didn't have a drill to force out the screw. The guys at The Shop were amazing and had the brake light replaced in 10 minutes at no charge! It's hard to find customer service like this anymore and I absolutely highly recommend you go to The Shop for your vehicle repairs! read more

My rear Dif was going out and I asked my buddy Blake (auto mechanic) who to go to. he referred Jesse and Rylan. Told me that they had the skills to the job. I then had them look at my Isuzu Rodeo 97. they also found my front bearings in bad shaped and rec-amended to fix them. These guys pulled the job of a rear dif and front bearings within 3/4 of the day. Big job, big repair and they pulled it. In surf language "these guys killed it!". There pricing is more reasonable than others shops too. And they are most likely the best in mendo. Go to this shop, read more

This place is THE BEST! Our check engine light came on and the technician diagnosed the problem extremely quickly, we were in and out in 5 minutes. Not only that, but the tech who helped us was by far the friendliest we have met in our lives, a positive, upbeat guy, who genuinely seemed happy to help us out. Thank you!!!! read more

I took my car awhile back for a timing belt replacement. They did a good job and I was happy that I found a reliable company. So when my car needed attention, I made an appointment. The problem, idle too high, that needed addressing and while there to change the oil and ATF fluids. Because the idle problem is worst in the cold mornings, I made arrangements to drop my car off the night before my appt.. I received a phone call later on the next day. It went like this: We started your car and no problems with the idle. Sometimes, the sensor could need replacing. We changed the fluids and we would like to close early so please come get the car. I came as quickly as possible, paid them and then started my car. The idle did the same thing it has done for months now. I drove off extremely disappointed. They didn't even take the time to test the sensors or tell me which off the two that needs replacing. My own research lead me to the answer and the repair will be done by another mechanic. I believe that my first 'happy with service' experience was a bait and switch tactic. I would rate them lower than 1 star, if possible. BEWARE! read more

Had called around getting quotes on a big repair for my car, and liked speaking with The Shop the best, who also came recommended. They seemed honest and straight with me. Very good communication throughout the repair with updates. Handled the big repair professionally and everything is working great. Price was very good aswell, compared to other quotes in the area. Would not hesitate to return for any issue in the future. read more

Great place and superb service! My son took a road trip to Oregon and on the way had some issues with the fender liner popping off. He's not very mechanically inclined, at all, so he tried explaining to me what was going on. After trying a couple different places that didn't really give him the time of day I called The Shop and spoke to Rylan, who was great. I explained the issue and asked if they could take a look at it and figure some kind of temporary fix just so he can get back on the road and he said it shouldn't be a problem. My son called me a little bit later telling me Rylan was super cool and got him taken care of quickly. The fact that Rylan was more than happy to help my son out, knowing this wouldn't be a repeat business type case, and when others wouldn't help at all speaks volumes about this company and their character. As a parent of an 18 year old that is taking his first trip on his own, I personally want to thank Rylan. Being 10+ hours away from him, this takes a lot of worry off my mind knowing he was able to get back on the road To anybody in the area needing any types of repairs done, this is the first place I would try! read more

What an awesome experience, and amazing service! We drove into a Fort Bragg from Utah for one our favorite family vacations, with a 3 year old and 9 month old! It also happened to be my 3 year olds Birthday, so when our check engine light went on the wife's stress level went through the stratosphere! After looking into a couple of the local automotive repair shops we decided to swing by 'The Shop' the repair guys were friendly and prompt, they stopped mid project to come read the check engine light. Our babies didn't even have to get out of the car! Come to find out it was an issue that the husband could handle. We were in and out in 3 minutes! I wish the shop was in Utah! read more

Great service, great owners. I had them do an oil change and they let me know the air filter also needed replacement (something that the dealership I bought it from had never told me.). They also washed the car, so it was nice and shiny when I picked it up. Definitely recommend. read more

Amazing mechanics! My little Mazda 2 is happy with new windshield wipers and oil... Also didn't have the air filter I needed but ordered it that day and had a phone call the next day it was in. My husband took one of his trucks here for a new clutch. They were great! Done on schedule, he feels they went above and beyond in taking the time to even research and talk to him about random issues with our other vehicles (with not much gain coming out of it for them). Our vehicles will be making their appearance at The Shop in the future as needed! Definitely recommend. read more

These guys are awesome. They helped me step by step through a complete engine swap for my mustang. They helped me make sure I was getting a good deal on the engine, and that everything was perfectly lined up before they started working on it. They finished the job quickly, and were very communicative during the entire process. I trust these guys, and know they'll do the job right for a good price. I know anytime I call they will let me know whats best for me as a customer. Thanks again guys! read more

Before I left on my trip to Fort Bragg, CA I noticed my Jeep was leaking something on the ground and took it to a mechanic who said there was nothing wrong with my Jeep after charging me $130. It began leaking more once I arrived in Fort Bragg so I took it to "The Shop" and the owner was amazing and very considerate of my concern and fit me in his schedule and almost immediately saw I had a drain plug that was leaking. He fixed everything and my bill was so reasonable compared to any mechanic I had ever taken my Jeep to....I was compelled to leave an extra tip. If you are looking for an honest great mechanic..... "The Shop" is the place to go. read more

Rylan was a complete professional, and a very nice guy. Not only did he repair our vehicle at a fair price, but he gave us a ride to the beach to hang out while we waited. Within an hour, we were back on the road. We felt very fortunate to have had such a great experience. Excellent service, excellent dude. read more

Went to spend the weekend in our new camper van on the coast. Coming in off hwy 20, our brakes started smoking. We made it but barely. Monday morning we got up and started making calls. Rylan was very helpful on the phone and said he could get it looked at and if the parts were available, the job done same day. No one else in town even had the time to look at it. We brought it in, problem diagnosed, but parts wouldn't be in until the morning. They put the tires back on and we had an appointment the next morning to get the work done. Rylan even went the extra mile in giving us some extra education regarding our new vehicle. The price was fair, work was done quickly, and they were even able to point us in the right direction of what we could do around town (we had the dogs). We were on the road by 1 pm and made it back home in time for work...no sick call necessary! Thanks to the shop, our first trip wasn't a total disaster! Thanks for going the extra mile for some non-locals. We will definitely call the shop if we need help in the future and we're in the area!! read more
