The locals in Navarro recommended that I call Starr Towing and that it could take as much as four hours for someone to get out this way.

That's when we learned the keys were missing. The only two places they could be were locked in the glove box or buried in the sand. After 45 min of digging in the sand, we called Walker's to try to open the glove box. By the way, it was about 10:00 pm when we finally called. Dan the driver showed up and worked HARD at picking the lock. After close to an hour, I said screw it and asked him to just break the lock. He obliged and got the glove box open, only to find out the keys weren't there. This is when the heroics start. My wife and I were totally frustrated and had resolved that we'd have to call someone to bring the spare key from Santa Rosa the next morning. Not Dan. He pulls his truck around to shine the lights on the beach and he starts digging. We joined him although it seemed futile since we had both already covered this ground at least three times. Twenty minutes later (at least 11:30 by now), Dan says, "Oh! Here we are!" He casually flips my keys to me like this was the normal course of business, and chuckles as my wife and I are both about to kiss him. I opted to slip Dan a twenty toward a case of beer instead of a smooch for his sand-digging effort, and I hope he's enjoying those beers as I write this. Walker's, you should be proud of this guy. He's a true professional.

Steve was helpful and kind ---it was incredibly comforting to see a friendly face after what happened. He only charged us for a half hour when he could have easily charged us more considering the trouble he had finding us and coming out at that hour. I wouldn't usually say this about getting my car towed but I have to say it was a pretty pleasant experience, all considered. Thanks Steve!

During the next two weeks I asked everyone I could for a ride to go retrieve my belongings from my vehicle & finally found someone willing to drive me. I had to take the day off work because the tow yard is closed on the weekends and is only open during bankers hours from 8-5. I called when we started out to make sure they knew we were coming & the guy said no problem although he would charge a fee for coming to unlock the gate. I figured he might want $50 and was fine with that. When I finally arrived-and only 30 minutes after they'd closed-I called and told the guy we were there. He then told me he was eating dinner and would come open the gate for $200! I was dumbfounded and explained that I couldn't afford to pay that much & the man grumbled something else and hung up. About 10 minutes later a truck pulled up next to us and a rough looking guy growled out the window that we needed to get the f*** off his property and that we were causing his cameras to go off. When we tried to explain our situation he told us to get our sh** together and get off his property again. What happened to customer service? He wasted his time and gas to show up there anyway, would it really have hurt him to unlock the gate and allow us to grab the stuff from my vehicle? I live almost 3 hours away and now will have to try to figure out how to come back down here, again. As hard as it was the first time, I am not real optimistic about it happening a second time. With all the money that tow companies charge, I doubt it would have really hurt him to have a little compassion and try to be helpful this one time. I mean he obviously won't have a hard time figuring out some other way to squeeze the next guy who comes in after having hard times. What a jerk! I hope that someone else will call a different company and not give this man anymore business he doesn't appreciate.
