I'm giving this review 3 stars but maybe 2.5 would be more accurate…read more We took the Air Train from EWR to NY Penn Station. My god, these trains are ancient. They look like they were built decades ago. The outside is grungy and the interior of the train was a bit shabby. For an airport train, they really don't design the interior to accommodate checked luggage. The seating space is so narrow that we had to squeeze our luggage in, then contort ourselves for the whole trip in order to fit so that our luggage wouldn't spill over into the aisle. Luckily we are just a family of 3, with a toddler so we could all pack into the seat. They also had a ticket collector come through the train to collect our tickets. I thought that was weird as I only saw that on old westerns where the conductor would collect tickets on the old the coal fired locomotives. Then, I realized it's probably a union job so that's why there's no innovation to verify the tickets via ticketing machine.

There were no clear instructions by the several workers in red jackets that you must transfer at terminal B to get to the train that would proceed to terminal A. Instead, we were told misleading and contradicting information by each different worker. This resulted in over an hour wasted. It would be far more useful if the overhead speaker in the train gave proper directions rather than the workers yelling sporadically. Although I arrived to the air train from the NJ Transit 2 hours in advance of my flight, I finally made it to security AFTER my flight takeoff time. If my flight wouldn't have been delayed, I wouldn't have made it. Do better.

I took the NJT out of Linden to NYC a few times during my visit. For the out of towners like myself…read morewho aren't familiar with the NJT, you can get to NY Penn from Linden. It's a small station not too far from Newark. They have a few small parking lots around the station. There's a lot of construction nearby which has apparently reduced the number of available spaces. The daily fee to park is $6. Be sure to read the signs as some of the spots are reserved for permit parking. They have machines where you can pay to park by space number, however my uncle paid and still got a ticket. You can purchase train tickets at the ticketing machines near the platform. They do not have any ticket agents available. A roundtrip ticket to/from NY Penn was about $20. The price of course varies depending on your destination. It was about $10 to go round trip to Newark Penn. The station has bike racks and lockers. I don't recall seeing any elevators, however they do have ramps to get to the train platform if you aren't able to use the stairs.

Anyway, my family lives relatively close by, so I come here to steal one of their cars to do things like move, do errands, escape New York, etc etc. Heated room if it's cold, ugly aesthetics, and ever climbing ticket prices; but hey it's NJT what do you expect*. --------- *Hopefully not modernism, efficiency, or affordability, because if you are you'll be sorely disappointed.

Listen, I pride myself on being able to follow directions and knowing where to go. But I did find…read morethe signage on the monorail from the Newark Airport to the Airport Train Station confusing. As did countless others. I suppose that is why they have staff standing at the stations yelling which tram is going where. Kind of cracked me up, but if you don't know English, it might not be as funny. Once I arrive at the train station, my train was cancelled. And the times on the screens did not match the times on the NJ Transit schedule (both on their printed and displayed schedule and on their website), so I also found that pretty confusing. Once you enter the train station area, you cannot go back into the main vestibule where there is a pop-up Dunkin' Donuts. Also a bit frustrating when you consider all the confusion and cancellations. However, the staff their were nice and helpful, as many people were confused. Plus, noshing on some Dunking while being delayed is better than noshing on nothing.

I think was more economical than taking an Uber/Lyft, but more importantly the time would have been constant. Don't have to worry about traffic jams or accidents to make the commute time unpredictable. That's the good part. The bad part is that the train seems kind of old and dirty. There's no digital billboard/message system to show you the system map, where you are and what the next stop is. And they didn't even announce the stops on the intercom. I did my homework ahead of time and knew how many stops there were in between EWR and NY Penn Station. Then we went underground and I assumed this was us going under the Hudson River. And as we approached Penn Station and the train was slowing down I was looking around for a sign to confirm I was in the right place. A passenger shouldn't have to know all the stops ahead of time or look out the window to see where they're at. NJ Transit needs to improve in this area.

It's way better than playing "find the $60 parking spot" in Manhattan. Tickets are easy: NJ Transit app, the clerk, or the machine (which saves you from the conductor's fee). Covered benches included at no extra charge. :) Sometimes I'll ride the train in and bus it back from Port Authority, depending on where I land. Kids under 12 ride cheap (under 4 is free), and if the city isn't your vibe, the train's perfect for town-hopping without the parking drama. This station's safe and reliable, plus there's a little store right there for coffee, snacks, or even a lottery ticket. It's not fancy, but it's convenient and that's the point. NOTES/TIPS: **If you're ubering or lyfting, put in "Millburn On The Go" (the store noted above by the stairs to the NYC-bound side). If you type "Millburn Station," you'll end up on the wrong side of the tracks. Literally. **Free parking on the west bound side after 6pm and all day on weekends. No parking 2-6am.

They have more single day ($10) parking spots now, accommodating the new reality of hybrid work, but still plenty of annual passholder parking spots. There are many lots, they may want to simplify it going forward. Nice space upstairs is an inside place to sit in bad weather with the ticket counter, an under track walkway to cross (does pool with water during rain), and lots of trains courtesy of being close to Summit and a few near express trains through to the city in less than 40 min to Penn Station.

Looking at airport options in the NYC area, there was JFK, LaGuardia, and EWR. I've never flown out of EWR before, and saw that it had the latest flight leaving NYC at 9:00 P.M EST. This was helpful since I had to leave the office at around 5:30, and needed time to get out of the Financial District in NYC on a Wednesday evening. I booked a nonstop on JetBlue out of Newark, and thankfully the whole airport experience ended up being pretty smooth. The airport itself was much nicer than I expected, especially for such a busy New York area airport. The terminal felt modern, clean, and fairly easy to navigate in the terminal that I was at for the Jetblue flight. There were plenty of food options, seating areas, and charging spots! Flying out of Jetblue from EWR was wonderful. Getting to the terminal and gate wasn't too difficult. The boarding was well organized and there was plenty of open seats on the plane at that flight time. It also arrived a few minutes early into Orlando! Newark Liberty was a good airport experience for a first visit. I only tried [2] different food options though before boarding my flight. It was a quick experience, but I would consider flying out of EWR again for another nonstop flight.
