I'd never been -- the station is only three years old -- so I stopped by Sunday to (pardon the expression) 'case the joint out.' Good thing! I entered at Grand Central Station, followed signs and walked. Then walked some more. Took escalators, maybe an elevator. Finally ended up at ticketing. I don't think I would have allotted enough time if I hadn't known the layout beforehand. It was off hour. Not many people there. The customer service rep, a wonderful woman named Heather, wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing. She actually left her post to show me the tracks and helped me get my bearings. (Guess what! Heather was there Monday morning when I returned. I felt like I was seeing an old friend!) Here's a tip for everyone: If you don't want to deal with the underground labyrinth, look for the elevator on Madison off 47th Street. It'll take you directly down to ticketing and the waiting area. And specifically for older folks: To reap the senior discount, purchase your tickets the day of your trip, not before. There's no upcharge to buy tickets on the train. If I heard correctly, senior fares are the same for peak and off-peak -- but don't quote me on that! This station is light, bright, much quieter than Penn. Bathrooms are infinitely better. Now that I know what I'm doing, this may become my station of choice.

But I have to award five stars for the clean bathroom. Due to basic geography, the ride itself is faster than Penn, so maybe if they were starting in 1908 they would have built Penn Station here, but consider all the terminated or "maybe someday in theory" rail links it's nice that this thing actually got built.

Getting off here had me just 2 blocks south of the park. Lately, it would seem that this station was a bit cleaner and better maintained. One of my favorite ramen shops was right around the corner of this station on W 56th St.

It might sometimes be called Midtown - 57th Street in some references and is directly adjacent to Carnegie Hall. The station is completely handicapped accessible, which I found helpful today as I was dragging my rollaboard and not interested in going down a flight or two of stairs. Surprisingly, the elevator did NOT smell of pee! The mezzanine level has the usual fare controls including ticketing kiosks and turnstiles. There is another elevator down to the platform level. For a station that is over 100 years old (it opened in 1919), I found it reasonable clean and well lit. Better than many of the MTA stations on Manhattan. Thanks to my amazing tour guide for the whole weekend, Bea R., for taking me to so many spots while I was in town. This PATH Train station is like a major hub connecting Jersey to NYC, and it will take you to the World Trade Center with many stops in-between. You can tap your way to gain access to the trains, I believe the cost is $3.25 for a ride. I can't remember how often the trains come and go, but if you miss it, you'll have to wait for the next one. I want to say about 15 to 20 minutes between trains, but I could be off. The trains themselves can be packed like you're in a can of sardines, but other times, not so much. I guess it depends what time of the day you go. I certainly wouldn't want to be on it during the week when everyone is getting off work! For the most part, the trains appear clean, but if you're a germophobe then you'll be prepared with gloves and probably face masks and a butt ton of hand sanitizer. If you're like me and not familiar with public transportation, I highly suggest you study for it in advance unless you have a tour guide like I did. The trains are quick to get you where you want to go, but if you're new to it, it will take some getting used to for sure. Hope you enJOY the ride!

There are repairs underway at the train station so pay attention to the re-direction of where to go. The escalators and elevators will help one up and down street and subway levels. However, this station is busy esp during rush hour and since a local stop it does get super packed. Even more if there are delays, so play wisely. Reload your OMNY card at the station before heading to the turnstyle or pay with your credit card - tap and go. The message boards display when the next trains are arriving which is helping to know how far along the trains are especially if one misses the train and has to wait. Depending on which entrance one goes down, it can be a trek to get down to the subway if one is going uptown or downtown...trial and error until one knows their way around.

D is for degrading experience!!…read more Weekends are problematic to strap hangers entering Brooklyn as it is re-routed on the N line beginning 36th Street to the very last stop- Coney Island Stillwell Avenue. Strap hangers who need the D train are then forced to take the D train going towards Manhattan to their desired stop. Upon arriving at Coney Island Stillwell Avenue, this train stalled for ten minutes due to so-called "signal problem" to become sitting ducks. Aggravating and total frustration for a complete waste of time travel!!! However, at the 18th Avenue station there are two beautiful lighted glass art on the wall.

Relatively new, as it has only been open for a few years so far but it still has the brand new feel…read moreto it. There are a few entrances and exits depending on where you're coming from. There are escalators that take down to each level. There are also elevators but keep in mind it isn't a direct stop to the tracks or the street. The level right below the street, there are some stores and vendors and rest rooms. The level below that is the waiting area with screens to tell you which track you need to go to for your train. Keep in mind there are no seats at that level. The tracks are then another level down. It's a bit of walking but it's convenient if you use the LIRR and it's clean and still feels brand new.

There is significant artwork in this station. Some of that artwork is virtual. Don't miss the 150 foot escalator.
