Thought I should share this review as it may be best to book an appointment with this office in person to avoid any issues like I experienced! They also ask for a deposit to make an appointment, and it is uncomfortable to give credit card information through the phone, so it would feel safer to do it inperson. TLDR as this is a long review: -$50 appointment deposit that goes to your copay later - they take Anthem PPO - a little over a month wait for available appointments - maybe try to visit the office in person to book your first time appointment to pass the office staff's vibe check ( no joke - business description on yelp says "Staff are instructed not to waste any time with cold callers, potential patients without accepted insurance, and troublesome patients or solicitors. While this policy may seem rude to some, it is necessary to facilitate care for those who truly require attention." ) Was really looking forward to this dermatologist, as the reviews on Anthem's website seemed very nice! But after seeing other site reviews, my best advice is to book the appointment in person as although the doctor appears to be wonderful, there have been issues with office staff interactions. I called to make an appointment and all seemed to go well, they did not have an opening for a little over a month which I was totally fine with, and ask for a $50 deposit that will go towards your copay. I asked to confirm whether they took Anthem PPO with gHIP, and the nurse must have thought I said GNP (a different insurance), and told me they didn't take GNP and to search up Greater Newport Physicians. Confused as to what it was, I thanked her before hanging up and searched the provider up. I realized that she might have misheard me when I said gHIP (as it is a more specific feature of my insurance that deals with the copay aspect). I then called them back to explain the miscommunication and continue with my appointment request. Perhaps I lost my credibility from our initial call, as despite my attempts to communicate that I did NOT have GNP and had Anthem PPO with a specific copay, they repeatedly said that they only accept Anthem and did not take GNP. I tried to explain that I was not under Greater Newport Physicians, and that I was currently holding my Anthem PPO card in front of me. At that point the nurse interrupted to state I should check my insurance and they don't take Anthem PPO, and that I should find another doctor to help me. After she stated that, I felt they simply did not want to take me in despite my attempt to clear the insurance confusion, thanked her, and promptly ended our call. I cant say much about the quality of care as I may have been put on a lil burn book in the office after this experience :( but I can say that I saw a couple reviews that had good experiences with the appointment itself! Most issues for this office look to be on troubling payment issues and office staff. read more

I found this doctor via my healthcare provider's website, where it said Dr. Steinberg was in network. When I called to ask about setting up an appointment I was told that she was accepting new patients, but then they turned me away because my "Open Access Plus" plan (like a PPO but I don't need a referral to see specialists) wasn't specifically an "HMO" or "PPO". Within minutes I called my healthcare provider to figure out what I might have misinterpreted. My provider called the office on my behalf to inform them that they were in-network and that my plan would pay for their services. Surprisingly the office told my provider that they were not accepting new patients, minutes after they had just told me that they were. So either I was lied to or my provider was lied to. I got a call to confirm my appointment in 2 days. I asked whether the people in the small office and tight new office, had been vaccinated. I was told that they would not answer the question. I asked Dr. Steinberg to call me since we had worked together for 15 years and I was told she would not talk to me. I got a called yesterday, Monday, to confirm my appointment for Tuesday. Today I showed up and they said my appointment is canceled. The girl in the front office said I was the one who called to cancel the appointment so she put some one else into my spot! A liar should not work in the health profession office! Think, it took me one month to make this appointment, and I asked for half a day off from work so I can come to this appointment. Doesn't take a brainer to know she make a boo boo. No apology and she just said nothing she can do about it besides I have to reschedule. I asked if I can talk to Dr Steinberg. Refused of course. I asked for her name, she refused the first time. Then gave me her name, Andrea, the second time I asked after I tried to confront with the nurse. So disappointed that this happened in Dr Steinberg office. I have been coming here for more than 10 yrs. Dr is extremely nice, caring, knowledgeable, and professional. One of the best dermatologist. I love and respect Dr Steinberg dearly. Dr. Steinberg has been great the few times I've seen her. I would continue to visit her office, however... To say the "office manager" is rude, would be a serious understatement. It's sad to think that he could single handedly ruin this practice. I can't imagine Dr. Steinberg is aware of this guys behavior. If she was, I'm sure he would be gone. I simply called to question 2 office visit charges (along with 2 insurance charges) so they could freeze the same wart they didn't properly freeze on my first visit. This totaled over $300 and I called to see if this was normal and if there was anything they could do to help with the $120 out of pocket. In return the office manager (male) stated, "I know your type and we don't want people like you coming here!" He then hung up on me. When I called back, he brought up information about my personal life, which I only shared with the doctor and then used this information as an attempt to belittle and/or put me down. The most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. As a result (Dr Steinberg probably has no clue) this office has lost several patients. It's very sad she isn't aware what's happening in the front office. If you read this and go see her, please tell her! Adding note one week later from original post... My friend recommended Dr. Steinberg as her whole family has been going to her for years and I know why! I hate going to the doctor at the end of the day because usually doctors are running behind, but I have been to Dr. Steinberg's office 4 times (3 times being in the late afternoon/early evening) and haven't had to wait more than a couple minutes. I have been treated several times in the past for skin cancer. Every dermatologist I have seen has had long waits, rushed their appointments and pushed cosmetic services. I dreaded my annual appointment. Not Dr Steinberg. She was recommended by a friend and I have been going to her for several years now. I just love her. She is very thorough, informative and has a great personality. I never feel rushed, and she never upsells cosmetic services (although they are available on request). Dr. Steinberg is the best. She is warm and caring and takes time with all of her patients...which sometimes means a longer wait...but she is well worth the wait! I have referred a dozen people to her and all of them love her! Oh, I almost forgot to mention that she help save my life...she removed what she thought was going to be another "atypical" mole (I've had several)...well this one turned out to be a hybrid form of malignant melanoma. As it turned out, the oncologist she referred me to was also great and we managed to get "it" early enought to avoid having to go through radiation or chemotherapy. Dr Steinberg is kind, pleasant, patient, very thorough, and always has the time to answer questions and explain what she's doing. Be aware!!! I would not do business with this Dr. I have never been treated so poorly.... Her office manager is absolutely horrible and handled the problem I was addressing very unprofessionally!!! Not only did they not return my phone calls (5 calls over a 2 month period) I was swore at and hung up on. All over a $100.00 deposit I tried to get back for a service I never had done. I canceled with plenty of notice and would have gladly used the money towards a different service or product. Be aware... If you put any money down and do not use it, you will never see it again. So, I have this "atypical mole" on my ear. It's really hard to see and I just noticed it for the first time in this past year. My regular doc suggested I find a dermatologist and she gave me someone's card. I promptly lost that card. So I did some searches online and I found the closest dermatologist to me. There weren't any Yelp reviews, so I thought I'd just take my chances. Dr. Steinberg is pretty awesome. The first impression was that she was very nice and professional... BUT not to be rude or anything, but she seemed to have some kind of rash on her face? As a dermatologist, wouldn't you think that she would have the most awesome skin ever? However, it was very easy to look past that. She was never condescending to me, she answered all of my questions and I never felt like she was trying to "sell" me something. I honestly felt like she had my best interests at heart. The wait wasn't long and I was in and outta there within an hour. That's pretty awesome for a doctor's office. The positives: - professional staff - short wait times - she doesn't try to sell products - good at analyzing skin disorders - definitely above average! - very nice lady! The negatives: - Dr. Steinberg is not an expert in skincare (as previous review states), but that's also why she doesn't look like someone who has overindulged in her own products thank goodness! I wouldn't see her for cosmetic dermatology at all. - Despite her above average effectiveness at analyzing skin disorders, I don't think she is always up to date on the latest developments/findings in skin disorders - She tends to answer questions or jump to conclusions before getting to all of the relevant pieces of information. I felt that sometimes she tried to catch me in a misstatement which seems a bit petty Overall, she is very nice, quite professional and I would see her for some things but not all. read more

I think Dr. Steinberg is great. I went to her because I had this pimple thing on my nose that wouldn't heal. Turns out it was skin cancer. I've gone back for checkups several times since that has been taken care of. I usually don't have to wait too long. I understand when the wait can be a little longer because twice she spent extra time with me because she ended up removing growths when I was there for an examination. This place is definitely hit or miss with me. I went on a Tuesday and sat around for 2 hours since the Dr. Steinberg was running so behind. I was told that this was the norm in a specialist's office by the lady working the front desk. I almost didn't want to go back, but she said I needed a follow-up. I went in on a Thursday, and was in and out in less than 1 hour. I guess they just changed employees too since there was someone different in the front. I love Dr. Steinberg. I think she is one of the best doctors in Irvine. I never have trouble making an appointment or waiting long at all. I've been going to her for almost five years and every appointment she has been professional, caring and very friendly. I have had numerous skin problems throughout the years and she has diagnosed me accurately every single time, and prescribed me medication if needed. I'm shocked to see a good review of Dr. Steinberg for Botox. She literally ruined my face with her inept technique. (I know now how doctors are supposed to do Botox, from the types of facial expressions they ask you to make before injecting you, to how the injections are supposed to be done. She is an epic fail on both counts.) She injected so deeply into one spot that she paralyzed one side of my face. I couldn't smile fully for months, and I looked like I had a stroke. I also had the dropped brow/Caveman forehead, dropped cheeks, forehead set in concrete, sunken eyes, and huge bags and wrinkles under them that I never had before. Now that is finally wearing off, I'm still left with the bags, the sunken eyes, cheek drop, and horrible jowls and sagging skin all over. I look nothing like I looked before she injected me. I looked young for my age before, and now I look far older. This is all clearly as a result of injector error. If you don't believe me, or don't believe that these side effects can happen from bad Botox injections, just do research online. It's all there. I wish I could take back the day I chose to do Botox with her. If you want to trust your one and only face to this ham-handed excused of a physician (for Botox, I'm not talking about her other dermatological skills), then don't say you weren't warned. read more

I went to Dr. Steinberg for an overall check-up of my skin. I have a friend with the same complexion as me, and when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, it freaked me out. Thankfully, all was fine. Dr. Steinberg was very kind and very informative and the office is beautiful and clean. The reason that I am not giving more stars, is that I had a really strange experience with the insurance information they gave me. I have a Blue Shield PPO, and they verified with me over the phone, after i gave them all my insurance information, that they were in network with my insurance. However, when my EOB came in, it wasn't so... It seems that they only take Blue Shield EPOs? So, be ware and make sure you contact your insurance company beforehand for a verification. You can't trust that the insurance information the front office staff gives you is true, even when they say that the have "verified" your insurance before you come in, they actually haven't! read more

Arranged appointment, called to make sure that they accepted Blue Shield. When I arrived, i was told that they didn't accept Blue Shield 'Obamacare' (rudely). It is the same policy, and the doc gets paid the same. The only explanation is that it's a political thing, Doctors like would rather you stay sick than treat you, which is really pretty sad. Update: Their new location was a little out of my way, and I had forgotten they moved until I got an appointment reminder call the day before. Their new office is in a new (?) medical building surrounded by a business park (near Sand Canyon and Irvine Center Drive). Their new office is very fancy! Their staff members were very kind to me at my appointment, and Dr. Steinberg was able to answer all my questions. I've been to other dermatologists who have 3+ hour wait times. Not with Dr. Steinberg! I was in and out of the office within 40 minutes, with an early morning appointment. read more
