I called and they had the info/answers I needed. They had a slot for me within 24 hours. They're close to my house, so I went to them, but they also do house calls.
When I showed up, the guy there was ready for me. I pulled in and he went to work. Minivan windshield replacement took about an hour. He moved over stickers, mirror, and tolltag. Great selection of tools, and he keeps his work area tidy (tool safety and cleanliness).
I stayed to watch, but tried to stay out of the way. He was okay with that. Not very talkative, but mostly focused on his work. Still polite, and efficient.
His coworker who does invoicing too showed up and joined right in on the finish-up. They worked well together and just knew what to do.
The shop is kept fairly clean. It looks like they do plate glass as well as automotive glass. Lots of templates, work areas, etc. They keep only minimal inventory, for just the most common work, but they had my glass ready when I showed up.
I like that they are efficient, local, and had a good price. They were 15% less than Safelite, and about 5% lower than most of the bigger companies around. They were the second best price for what I could find, but they have a real, physical presence, and a website. It's not just one guy out of his garage.
Restrictions are only 2 days of no high-pressure water (car wash) and keep a window rolled down just a little for 2 days (door closes pressurize the cab and push the glass out). After the 2 days, there are 4 strips of orange tape at the top that I can peel off. It's just to keep it stable while the urethane caulk cures. Some vehicles with fullly clamped glass might be less restrictive.
They offer lifetime warranty on the work and the glass, and I feel they'll be around at least as long as I own the vehicle.
And just for reference, it was about $200 after tax for a front windshield on a Grand Caravan with heated wiper-park area and edge tint. I did this rather than repair because the price was so good, and we had three cracks that went to the edge. I figured better to go for the new glass, and I'm happy with the work done. read more
