I became a new patient at this dental clinic about 3-4 months ago after my insurance company referred me here as the closest in-network provider. My initial treatment was for a root canal, which ultimately ended in an extraction and bone graft. From the very beginning, communication has been a constant struggle. It is extremely difficult to get anyone on the phone, and when you do, you have to hope you've reached the "right side" of the clinic. Since the two offices share space, staff will not transfer your call if you reach the wrong department, instead, they tell you to hang up and call again. This has made even simple questions unnecessarily frustrating. Most recently, I had a follow-up appointment with the surgeon, who mentioned I might need another bone graft. He wanted the root canal specialist to review my x-rays to see if the tooth could be saved. I was told I would receive a call within two days with the specialist's opinion. That call never came. Since then, I've been calling two to three times a day, only to reach a full voicemail or no answer at all. The lack of communication and poor customer service has made me decide not to continue with this clinic. Terrible place. You cannot get a hold of anyone on the phone, to make an appointment, or even pay. I was seen by a doctor who left me waiting in the room for more than 20 minutes while I listened to him chit chat about vacation spots in the next room. When he finally comes in he didn't introduce himself or speak directly to me. He goes straight for the x rays and speaks lazily about what work needs to be done without so much as a glance my way. My girlfriend went here to get a root canal done. They said they can't do it because they have to extract the tooth because of an infection. So they did the extraction and then started the process of the implant and crown. Took over a painful year to get the process done and over $4,000!!!! He is a new dentist here and he will be extremely disrespectful to you, especially when it comes to asking for information about your medical help. 3.5hr wait for a 2 min follow up for the dental assistant to tell you to come back after they file an insurance claim for the procedure, I did not even see the dentist nor did they ask about my current state. I come back a few weeks later, refuses to update me on the insurance, makes me wait another 3.5hrs to see the dental assistant to tell me that insurance only covers partially and gives me a large bill before the procedure can proceed. I was able to get an appointment elsewhere and while insurance was still only able to cover partially, the other clinic's prices for the same procedure codes were less than half the price of here, plus they have 4+ stars with great reviews. Lesson learned, do not go to a 1 star "dental clinic". They do not have any compassion or respect for your time, I was only met with hostility and attitude from all parties, including the front desk and dental assistants, when asking just 2 questions after having to sit in the waiting room for hours, watching them take in people who came after I did. This was one of the only "clinics" with availability in the area but if you can, please go to any other clinic, I ended up taking a 30min subway ride to Manhattan for a much better clinic, they were able to honor my appointment time and did not actively impede my care and well being for profit. When I asked her about recovery time so I could figure out when to schedule an appt, she said I had to talk to dr right before the procedure....which makes no sense since I need that info before I made the appt. Elida made me believe that they had contacted my insurance and that the insurance had rejected my treatment (which I later learned from the insurance office never happened). They continued with the theater and told me that they would call an entity that provided help in these cases. A kind of subsidy. After a while they told me that I had not qualified for the aid, but that they offered to split the payment in two parts ($1,000 at the beginning and $1,000 at the end of the job). Due to the pain and my naivety, I accepted and used my credit card. They treated my cavity and gave me a temporary filling. I had to return in a maximum of 2 weeks to get a root canal. Since they never sent the corresponding medication to the pharmacy, I called them. countless times. Sometimes they even answered my call, but when I told them my name they told me that they needed to take another call and left me on hold... forever. Their game is to win by leading you to exhaustion. I decided to go to another Dental office and contacted my insurance: for ask why they don't approve my traitment. Oh, surprise! They had never called them from Elida and, in addition, they explained to me that this is not how approval works. It takes more than a day. It's very hard to get an answer on the phone, you get put on hold indefinitely and if you get someone to answer then the call gets dropped or they hang up. They took a month to send my authorization papers for approval by my insurance company and still they said I had to pay $450 for my root canal on top of the amount the insurance company would pay. On July 2, 2020 I had an appointment with Elida Dental Care at 94-38 59th Avenue, Elmhurst NY 11373 and was seen by a Dr. David Gavlin. For the appointment, I had come in due to a filling that I had accidentally chipped out of my tooth/mouth from a back molar. Prior to my coming in, the receptionist had asked if this was for a root canal. I expressed no, it was for a filling that had come out. I had an exposed tooth that needed to be covered/tended to. I had also been seen by a cosmetic dentist the week prior to my going in to get a temporary fiber filling/covering in the meantime (and paid out of pocket). I had my x-rays taken by an assistant and waited to be seen by the Dentist. Dr. David Gavlin then sauntered in, took a quick look in my mouth, and then began pressuring me to get a root canal and crown on the spot. I was taken aback; this is the sort of thing that you schedule for ahead of time. When I began to express concern/ask questions, he began to raise his voice and proceeded to yell at me as I was not being compliant, saying I would like to get a second opinion before proceeding. I asked him to please lower his voice. He said, "It's because of the mask" (we had masks on at this point due to the COVID outbreak). I said, "you were speaking to me before with the mask, and I could hear you just fine." At that point he exclaimed, "That's it! You're DONE!", threw down his clipboard and stormed out of the room, leaving me in the examination room with a spit protector around my neck. I asked as he was leaving if anyone would be helping me out of said medical gear/equipment. He yelled in the hallway, "NOPE! You're done!" There were children in the hallway and they and their mother seemed scared. I asked the medical assistant who was with them (who had done my x-rays) what to do, she didn't know. So I was forced to call 911 as I felt threatened and helpless, in danger for my safety. When he heard me on the phone, he came back in saying "you have five minutes to get out or I am calling the police." I said I had already called them. I then asked the 911 operator what to do. She said if it's safe, and there is a clear exit from the perpetrator, to leave the building and to wait outside for the 911 responders. When they arrived, I asked them to get the name of the dentist and to please file a harassment report against him. They said since he did not hit me they could not file that. They did get his name for me. What Dr. David Gavlin did was wrong and he should lose his license for such actions. It is clear to me that he was bullying me into getting an expensive procedure done by his office on the spot, and when I refused he got physically angry with me and threw a fit. This is the biggest racket I have seen in a while. There are two practices in the same office. One called Elida and the other Elite. Management is rude and uncooperative with patients. When calling to make appointments, put on hold average time 30 plus minutes. Consistent sales pitch to get patient to spend more money than insurance will cover. In my case they refused to complete work because they claimed that my insurance(Health Plex) would not pay them enough. I plan on consulting this matter with the NY State Attorney's General office. I had a very bad experience at Elida Dental Care (also called Elite Dental Care). They don't deserve one star. But my review won't be posted if I don't give out any stars. In their office, the waiting room was very small and was padded with patients. Patients sat shoulder-to-shoulder next to each other. The environment certainly doesn't pass the Covid-19 social-distancing code. When I was asked to take a full-mouth X-ray, I told the technician that I had already done that in another dental office. I showed her the X-ray copies and alerted her that my insurance co. would not pay for another set of X-rays. She told me not to worry and ensured me that they would not charge my insurance co. for the X-ray. But later on, I received a notice from my insurance co. that they charged $165 for the X-rays. They lied to me. While I was waiting to be seen by the dentist, I saw him flirting and laughing with the female assistants in the hallway. He was acting very playful and flirtatious with them. He even reached out and tried to grip the female staff's headband. I couldn't believe what I saw. A dentist behaved so unprofessionally in his patients' presence. He acted like he was holding a martini with girl companions on the beach. He finally walked into the room where I was waiting. His demeanor and attitude changed completely to be very cold, distant, and unfriendly. He neither greeted me as his new patient nor introduced himself as Dr. So-and-so. He didn't ask me to remove my facial mask for examination. He didn't even look at my referral letter that was written by my Endodontist for requesting a CT scan. I had to pull that letter out from the folder for him. When I asked him whether or not he was going to examine my teeth, he responded coldly to me that he would look at the X-ray and send the request to the insurance co. I had never seen any dentist who didn't bother to examine the patients' teeth. The next thing he did was walk out the door without saying anything to me. That consultation session was around or less than 6 to 7 minutes. I was shocked by his unprofessional behavior, lack of care for his patient, laziness in not doing his job, and how rude he treated me as his patient. Before I left that office, I asked the receptionist for his name. She told me that he was Dr. David Gavlin, the director of that clinic. I was even more shocked when I heard that he was in that top position and acted the way he acted. After my visit, he charged my insurance co. $150 for doing nothing during our consultation session. I will never go back to that clinic again. I also don't recommend anyone to visit that clinic, especially to be seen by that dentist. If only i can give this horrible clinic a ZERO star i will. DAVID GAVLIN, their racist dentist saw me today. He said i have a gum disease, i was surprise cause i just saw a different dentist and they didnt say anything about that so i asked DAVID GAVLIN, what causes it why i have it. And he rudely answered me, you dont know gum disease??? Do you understand english? If you dont understand english, it's not my problem. I mean what the heck??? Is that how you treat patients??? What a horrible person you are. Nobody should come to this dental clinic. He didnt even check my teeth, what a scammer! Now i heard they had scammed a lot of people of unnecessary procedures to get money. The most worst experience i had with a medical professional. Believe me, you dont wanna go here. I Reported them to the BBB AND THERE NAME IS NOT COMING UP. THEY ARE UNDER THE NAME OF ELITE DENTAL CARE WITH THE SAME ADDRESS. Everyone needs to report them, they are ripping people off telling you that your insurance don't cover certain things and you have to pay for it out of your pocket and then come to find out that the insurance does cover it, and they don't want to give you your money back. I didn't even get any procedures done here. I Was on hold for 15 mins and someone hangs up the phone on their end. It Happened 3 times. When someone picked up finally they were so rude and wouldn't let me explain my situation. Looking at the other reviews... I'm not coming here anymore.. I suggest you shouldn't either. The worse service ever! No manner, no empathy, very rude owner and very disrespectful. Not helpful at all. I wish I saw rating before I went. The new young doctor was really nice.
