I've dealt with many banks in my day. My experience with Elevations is the worst. Every time I call I wait and wait and am told the wait is due to Covid. Just waited 1 hour 4 min and 53 seconds to be transferred to take their survey and was then hung up on. Their hold music is very annoying and every 5 seconds they tell you they will be right with you. Rosa was rude and Avon went to find out information for me and that's when I was transferred to take the survey. No call back. This is not the first or only time this has happened. I don't ever post bad reviews but today I'm beyond frustrated! read more

After relocating 1400 miles from my home credit union, and unable to transfer my account due to the pandemic, I am NEVER going in this place again. My husband died 4 days ago, and the rude little blond girl child teller said "I can't do a shared branch check if you don't have an account here." I have 3 times the amount of the check I need to SEND TO THE FUNERAL HOME SO THEY CAN CREMATE MY HUSBAND. NEVER EVER going here again. Negative stars, would definitely not recommend. read more

I've been banking with this credit union for nigh on greater than 20-plus years. I've discussed several times the need to refinance my mortgage and have been turned down each of the times I requested a refinance - I also had a HELOC loan with them. When I had a better-paying job years ago, I had a sterling credit score. Then I had an injury and was out of work for 6 years and my credit score took a real dive and since then, I have slowly have been crawling out of this financial morass, first by being underemployed, now payments to this credit union take 77% of my monthly income, between my mortgage and HELOC loan. I'm paying 6.25% on my mortgage. Every time I speak to someone in the mortgage dept., I'm told that it's another entity such as Fannie Mae, Freddit Mac, etc., that they are beholden to as far as originating loans and they have nothing to do with denying the refinance of my mortgage. Today's experience with mortgage loan officer John Wetzig took the cake. I was getting a bit emotional and he was telling me that he couldn't help me - in this frame of mind, I guess. Well, deal with it, asshole! At no time did I use disparaging language or expletives in the conversation. He was intolerant of the fact that I was expressing any emotion after I explained my situation. He offered to send me to his manager, and after a bit more discussion - and my voice was raised, but not screaming - just raised - he hung up on me. Wow. This credit union is more concerned about its one billion in assets than assisting customers - especially those on the lower end of the economic spectrum. I'm sure anyone on here expressing kudoes for this financial institution is doing pretty well financially and is not experiencing any sort of financial stresses or hardships. I did make a complaint about this loan officer through the chat option on the CU's website, and now this Yelp complaint. Don't bother complaining on this CU's FB page. All disparaging comments are hidden. Don't bank at this CU if you can avoid it. They also have a mortgage servicer Dovenmuehle which provided horrible customer service years ago. Any mortgage Qs - this CU also pushes the customer off to Dovenmuehle. I have experienced inconsistent customer service with this mortgage servicer - sometimes it's good, sometimes bad. What used to be a great financial institution is now no better than any of your local banks - and some of them could probably be even better than this CU. In order to post this, I had to give it a rating, so I chose the lowest one possible, because "0" wasn't an option. read more

I have been a long-time customer of Elevations Credit Union, maintaining several accounts for myself and my family members. We went to them initially as they were selected as the HSA provider for my long-time employer. Over recent years however, I've noticed that their HSA services were minimal - particularly in comparison to another bank my employer switched to for HSA services. Despite this switch over, maybe due to the fact that we already had a bunch of HSA checks printed (they are not free), we kept using Elevations to pay our HSA-related expenses. In fact, for the last several years, I've continued to move money from the new HSA bank to Elevations. Well I'm ready to consider a change. I submitted my most recent money transfer request over 10 business days ago, using the correct form provided by Elevations (one that has worked perfectly well over the last few recent transfers), and using Elevations secure mail system. I have yet to even get a confirmation that they are working on it, that there are no issues, or that it might take some time to process. I sent a second secure email after the first week, asking if there was some problem, or if this delay was usual, but I've received no response to that request. I will likely call them tomorrow. But I'm equally likely to stop delaying the inevitable. I will probably drain the Elevations HSA and begin only using the new bank's services. Please set your expectations appropriately if you are considering using Elevations for HSA services. And Happy New Year! read more

The self-professed community bank that cares has been an utter disappointment and I'm being kind. As a Business depositor, I've never asked for anything. We were customers of Elevations for nine years or so, currently moving to another bank. Overall, we've been very unhappy. First, the good: the tellers are friendly and the locations are comfortable. They've got a change machine so it is easy to deposit coins. Now, the bad: pretty much everything else. We had three accounts- a personal checking account and two business accounts. The business accounts are handled by some sort of third party. It costs $10 per month per account for the business accounts. All the logins are separate log-ins. The web interface sort of looks like the one for the personal accounts, but it doesn't work the same way. In fact, when I went in to set up the business accounts, the rep there was sort of like, "why would you want to do that?" I should have taken the hint. Generally, when I went into the branch with a question they would politely tell me that I needed to do that myself at home. And generally, when I would try to do something I needed to do online, it would say I needed to go into a branch at do that with a teller. Wait times on the phone are long. Interest rates are not competitive. The website almost always does not recognize the (same) computer I'm on, so I have to do two-factor identification, which is not my preference and which is a royal pain when you have three different accounts. Oh, and I recall I went in to talk with an investment advisor about bond funds. He spent about half an hour talking about various options, and told me he'd contact me with further information. Never heard from him. Overdrafts at this place suck, too. $31 for each of them and that's AFTER you've gone in, waited to speak to a rep and apologized abjectly. Whereas our current bank, Ally, will just pull the funds from your savings account. No charges at all. Checks are expensive, with something like a $25 minimum shipping charge. Look elsewhere. For us, the benefit of having a local branch was far outweighed with the hassle and expense of everything else about it. read more

About a month ago on 05/17, I visited their branch on Iris Street, Boulder, CO. I was inquiring about exchanging EU for US $. Before the words had even left my mouth a millennial-aged employee who was training another, told me that your bank was too small to offer that service. End of conversation. I then visited two other banks, and while neither of those could help either me as you need to have an account with them, each greeted me warmly and one went so far as to Google other options for me. Fast forward to June 11th where I transferred money from my PayPal balance to my Elevations Checking account. I got my usual confirmation from PP saying the funds had been deposited and should be available immediately. Hours and hours and hours later, with no sign off that deposit in sight and having reached out to PP twice, I reached out to your bank. Only to discover that not only was the error on your end, but you had not even bothered to notify your customers, whom you refer to as family, of the issues with your credit card company. And how no one could access fund on their Elevations Visa because of it. Not even a banner on your website notifying your customers. This is appalling customer service, or lack thereof. What if I had been buying groceries? What if I had tried to pay for a rental? Not only would I be out thousands of dollars, in the latter example, but I would not even know why. Why would you leave your customers hanging? Financial stress is horrible. I chatted with Lisa in your customer support, and there was no guarantee of when I would have access to my funds. I emailed Elevations regarding my experience on 06/11, and Janelle Pulled read it but never responded. Today the same thing happened regarding another PayPal transfer. All day I've been waiting for my funds to become available or at the very least to receive an explanation from the bank as to what was going on on their end. As I've received neither from this super laissez faire bank, I'm packing up my toys and moving to Chase. read more

My experience with this bank has been extraordinarily mixed. First, the good: nicest tellers and banking staff you'll ever come across. Eager to help, minimal or no lines when in a branch, water, coffee, all those perks. Easy account opening. But things went somewhat downhill. As others say here, I am frustrated by what I experienced trying to get help by phone. I gave up ever trying as it was an incessant hold, every time. I have already complained about this, but the bank always said first it was that it was holidays, then the new year, then tax season- I gave up. (they do have chat agents online, but not at all hours). Making this experience extra weird is that they have a policy of bankers calling all new account holders - 3 times. So in my first few months of banking, I could not get the help I needed when I needed it, but seemed to constantly be getting incoming calls from the bank checking in randomly- until at last, I asked, please stop. Past one, at the most two calls, its just invasive. In the meantime they sold my name to some life insurance company which is now bombarding me with junk mail. Not thrilled as had the belief I was joining the kind of smaller bank which didn't do stuff like that, but what I am experiencing is seeming like the worst of small banks and worst of big banks combined. Hoping things will change and I can update this. read more

Take your business account needs somewhere else! I have a business account, personal account, credit card, and a mortgage at the bank at Elevations in Boulder, CO. Their business support and IT department for business needs are highly unprofessional and disappointing. I hear Bank of America has great business banking. Im moving there after this week of horrible service. I really wanted to give my business to a credit union, but more than that, I need to be able to trust and rely upon my bank for my business. I have been locked out of my account for 4 days. I have called 5 separate times, tried the online chat, & have done everything they said to do. They say that the "IT Department" can only handle the business online banking. When I call member services, the people who answer the phone say they cant help with business online banking, just personal online banking. And that I can't directly talk to the IT department about this. So today I asked to speak w/ a supervisor. He said it typically takes 1 business day to unlock accounts (this still seems like a long time), he apologized, said all the right responses, and that he would put my need to the top of the priority list for the IT department. He said they would call or email me and it should be this morning but definitely before the end of the day. That was at 9am this morning. It is now 9pm. Nothing has happened. read more

Never bank here. They lie to their customers and during the time of Covid they have been the most disrespectable company I have ever seen. I would rather use ent or any other credit union in colorado. If you bank or have a credit card with them for over ten years and are suffering from making less money due to the pandemic they give you the middle finger and close your accounts. On top of that you can't access paying off your credit card whatsoever and if you complain to the BBB they copy and paste the same message without any coherent reason. Just wow, hope they close down soon due to their lack of disrespect. Even the people who work for them have a horrible attitude and you can tell they don't like where they are working or dislike their job. Such a sad state the company has become and you can see their true colors show. read more

Do not get a mortgage here. The loan officer we interacted with here was negligent. We almost lost our earnest money because Greg Roller, who still works there, couldn't be bothered to call my place of business to confirm my employment. He called me, I kid you not, 2 days before closing to say that the loan was not going to go through. Suffice it to say, I dropped everything, left (stable) patients in the waiting room and raced over to diagonal. When it came out that the issue could be solved with a phone call, we got his supervisor involved and a few hours later it was solved, but omg I nearly had a heart attack. Location is convenient for us, but they've made too many mistakes. We do part of our banking here, and I'd say one phone call in four leads to deposits in the wrong account, obnoxious calls from their 1800 numbers and late fees that they eventually, after wasted time on our part making calls, reverse. I've had an account here for at least 15 years. Not a fan. Do very little banking through them. If I wasn't so partial to my account number, I'd have closed the account years ago. read more

In the past I have been very happy with Elevations, but in the last 12 months they've had me working harder than they are: 1. Took 6 months to resolve a mistake by their mortgage company that resulted in an adverse action on my credit rating. In the process one associate raised his voice at me. As far as I know, he got away with it. 2. They lost my deposit and I can't pay them to call me back. Have no idea where my original check is, but it left me in a bind on vacation. No help from Elevations. No follow up from Elevations. No investigation on their part as to where my check went. 3. During a fraud alert they realized my birthday was wrong on the account. It's been wrong for over 5 years. The agent was condescending and more worried about my birthday than the fact that someone in Georgia was on an epic spending spree in my name. All I needed was some follow up and for them not to lower my credit rating for their mistake, but apparently that's too much to ask. It would have been a bonus if I didn't have to make multiple contacts regarding some of the issues - like I said, I'm working harder than they are right now. read more

I joined Elevations when it was University of Colorado FCU in 2004. They had an office in the Tivoli student union on campus at Auraria where I joined, and I have never had any problems with these awesome folks. Since they are based in Boulder (and I live in Denver), I have only visited a branch in person once in Westminster (outside the UofC FCU office at Tivoli, which is now a Public Service Credit Union). I make use of the CU service centers located conveniently nearly everywhere for deposits (including having my sister in Indiana deposit a check in my account at a CU service center location...convenient alert!). A bit of a hassle is the fact that if I want to change my ATM pin, I literally have to drive up north to make the change at an actual branch. Its no big whoop. I have only spoken with friendly, professional people whenever I have needed to contact the call center. They go above and beyond the normal range of customer service to take great care of you. I would go running and screaming from Wells Fargo to join Elevations. I also had a car loan (snagged a killer interest rate, to boot) through Elevations, and NEVER had any problems. Convenient online banking services available for free, and I can transfer freely between all my accounts (savings, loan, etc). read more

This bank has gone downhill. We have been customers for years and even rolled an IRA into it. The last two times I have been on hold for over a half an hour to reset my password after being locked out. Today, I was routed to a call center when I tried to call my local branch. When I finally talked to someone, she couldn't see that I had changed my password (I didn't think I had originally). We used to be able to actually talk to someone at our branch in a reasonable time if we needed something. I have a loan with Wells Fargo (yuck) for my car but at least I can talk to someone in under ten minutes. Has Elevations been letting staff go and outsourcing jobs? If so, they need to stop pressing how local they are. read more

Worst service of any company bar none. Their credit card is a nightmare. No matter what you do they screw it up. Don't even try to use the credit card while traveling or to make a purchase from an overseas merchant. Despite calling the credit card company, telling them to allow the charge and getting a pre-authorization, they will deny the charge and shut your card down. Good luck trying to straighten the mess up. Despite a $12,000 credit limit and less than $200 worth of charges on my card, the local branch informed me that they had denied a merchant charge and shut my card down "because I was over the limit." I was transferred to the fraud dept. The fraud dept. told me to call the local branch, the local branch told me to call the fraud dept. I asked for a manager who could only "fill out a ticket" and told me to wait, and wait, and wait.............. Elevations employees are lazy, incompetent, and just plain dangerous. I've had an Elevations account since 1995, my experience with Chase as my secondary bank brought me back to Elevations to become my primary bank a few years ago. I've never really had an issue that Elevations couldn't rectify, whether it was a late fee I asked to have waived, or a deposit that didn't seem to make it into my account. Over the years I feel like I've grown used to their great service, so much that it's made me not want to go back to a traditional bank ever again. I would greatly suggest Elevations to friends, colleagues and others as it's a stellar financial institution. For those who complain about courtesy fees, for one, this is an opt-in service, for two, I suggest you take note of the fact that the bank is providing you a service, by paying something which you normally would not have the money for. Let's not leave horrible reviews for your bank because you can't manage how to balance a checkbook. Sorry, that ones on you. If you'd like, you can turn this service off. Additionally, this bank provides what I call a waterfall of overdraft, they can pull from your savings, checking, credit card in any order you wish, this is a service that banks rarely provide. read more

Elevations deposited a $5,000 online cashier's check into my 19-year-old daughter's bank account and allowed a fraudulent withdrawal of $4,000 before the cashiers check cleared as a part of a Bitcoin scam that my young daughter was fooled by. Any other credit union or Bank I've worked with never would have let this happen. I set up a loan to repay the $4,000 because the bank account was in negative balance and elevations did not follow through on the initial terms of the loan which they offered 90 days deferred payment. Long wait times and multiple transfers just about every time I had to make a payment one day it took over a half a day to make a payment on this loan ended up paying it off early just because of the hassle. read more

I have been with Elevations since before it was Elevations back when in was CU Credit Union - so approximately 25 years. There are great aspects to this branch, but I have ethical concerns with the way they have designed their banking software. MANY times I have been given unnecessary overdraft fees when I have still had money in my account, and, as a result, get hit even harder with even more overdraft fees. Before I get multiple responses telling me to budget better - I keep a spreadsheet of all my finances and religiously check my account. When I call Elevations customer service to get some of the fees taken off, they are incredibly rude to me and tell me that their software system is based more on the time of charges coming in over the money in the account (WHAT?), which means if a bunch of charges come through they all get overdraft fees despite the money in the account. Elevations - this is a terrible way to set up your banking software. There is an easy fix to this in your backend code. When you design software to look at the bulk charges coming in over the actual money in the account, you place people who may need that last $50 at a disadvantage. Furthermore, you add insult to injury with the way your customer service handles a person calling in to get the wrongful charges removed. They lecture and condescend about how to spend money and do math when all you want is to have the proper charges reflected. Get it together and fix this. This scam has happened too many times and because of this I will be switching credit unions. read more

I have been banking in a variety of places for 35 years. I'm writing this on behalf of my son though. He just turned 20 and is a college student so he is NEW to banking and fraud. He has the Elevations account as a backup since there is a branch at his school. He has only used the account once since he opened it 18 months ago for emergency gas. He was frauded in October - someone went on a spending spree near campus. He reported it immediately but is still being held accountable because the purchases were made with a physical card. Well, he doesn't have the card and that's why he reported it. When reporting the incident, he (being honest) said he thought the card was in a desk drawer but it wasn't - so, did he lose it, did someone in his apartment steal it, did he have it in his backpack and it fell out? He doesn't know. Since he was honest with the bank and didn't just say it was stolen, he is now on the hook for the money - insane. I have requested he go and close this account. read more

If I could give a zero I would. The phone service is awful. I have been with Elevations for 4 years now and just thought I would give them a second chance on an auto loan. Do not do business with these crooks. I was (the operative word) a member for over 20 years. They screwed me on my mortgage, asserting that an acre and a half of land in Colorado is without value when THEIR appraiser "forgot" that much land for my mortgage. Couple that with me having to explain to them how a roll-over IRA works and I have every reason to divest which I will be doing, 4 IRAs, my mortgage, credit card....everything. It might not be much to them but I know LOTS of people and every one of them will be hearing about these bastards. They've just gotten too big for their britches. I'm trying to figure out how they're different from BOA or Wells Fargo these days....nope, can't figure it out....because they're not. read more

I have been a member of Elevations Credit Union and formerly University of Colorado FCU since 1989. I am sad to say that I have wanted to get out for the past 3 years. Unfortunately, I have been shackled to this bank because I used them for my mortgage. Some history: I got a signature load for $1500 that I used to purchase a bicycle in 1990 from UofC FCU. My guess is that this would be near impossible today. In 2003 I wanted my mortgage with a holder that I could have a relationship with. I didn't want my mortgage sold the way my first one had been. If I should ever have a problem I wanted to be able to walk into a local office and work something out. I lost my job as part of the recession of 2008-09. Having been financially responsible I had about 18 - 24 months of savings to see me through any normal layoff. After passing through 12 months of unemployment with no job prospects in sight I inquired about modifying my loan. Because Elevations outsourced their mortgage customer service to Dovenmuehle Mortgage Inc. I had to go through this 3rd party company located in Illinois. This effectively defeated my original goal. Dovenmuehle also seemed to have some competing interests and no latitude towards making a loan modification. After 5 months of follow-up calls I finally got a response from Doevenmuehle that was less than acceptable. When I inquired further with Elevations their representative dropped the ball once again. I won't go into the litany of other issues the use of a third party mortgage service have inflicted upon their customer base. You should also check out the reputation of Dovenmuehle as well since it is less than stellar. If you are using Elevations for just basic banking services, in my opinion it is comparable to other institutions. If you need more advanced services my recommendation is to look elsewhere. I have just refinanced without even considering Elevations CU. I am also considering other options for basic banking as well. read more

I recently had to cancel my credit card due to a fraudulent charge. I spoke with both the fraud center and a representative at Elevations Credit Union. It is now at the ninth business day since I dealt with the issue and no new credit card has been issued. I called member services to find out that a new credit card had not been issued and now further delays in getting a new credit card that I really need to make some purchases in the next few days. So a rep called me regarding my Yelp review. I explained my situation. She basically told me to talk to the same person that didn't give a crap about me to begin with. I had to just settle the account just so it would stop hurting my credit. I tried to call and make an arrangement to pay the balance in full. They didn't even want to hear me. Just pay what we say or we'll just keep reporting late every month. I felt trap. So I just settle with what I had, just so that this could be done or over with. So now my credit will still show that I am late with payments which is not the case. If they would have just accepted my payment plan, bank would have been paid in full and my credit would still be intacted. Still very upset with this company. read more

Sometimes they are just fine, HOWEVER. . . First, whenever I call, I'm on hold, sometimes FOREVER. Phenomenal time-wasters trying to get any simple thing done. Second, in 2016, after setting up in the branch to do recurring wires out about once a month, for which they charge $20 to send, I was just now perusing the account online and found that I can send wires ONLINE for $15. This, after 30+ wires at $20 each time. Hey Elevations Credit Union, are you purposely trying to gouge us instead of letting me know RIGHT WHEN I SET UP RECURRING WIRES that there was an option? I called to ask "why didn't ANYONE there tell me I could save TIME (not calling in a wire every time) and MONEY by doing it online?" Their answer: well, actually, I'm on hold FOREVER again waiting for someone to pickup and answer my question. Third, their form to fill out for transferring from HERE to another credit union was unclear before - even different tellers told me to input the same information in different places (as in, completely not clear). Now they redesigned it and it's worse. It was re-designed by a moron. I brought this to their attention - honest staff there agree that it doesn't work; I offered to re-design it for free, so we'll see if they do anything. For an institution that claims to value community, they do not seem to value customers. read more

I took an auto loan out with Elevations Credit Union in 2016. The people in the actual credit union were always friendly and considerate. In April of 2018 my wife and I combined insurance policies to save money (I made zero changes to my policy). I received notice that they felt I was uninsured. I faxed, called, and emailed my insurance information to them. When they claimed they didn't receive it, my insurance company sent it to them. Unfortunately my car was totaled in June of 2018 because of hail. Throughout this ordeal, my insurance company (according to them I don't have insurance) and my GAP insurance paid off my car. During this time I continued to submit insurance information and informed them each time that my car was totaled. I was assured each time this additional charge would be taken off. (Although they kept reminding me I still owed my monthly payments even though I didn't have a car anymore and had to buy a new one).
